Rumor has it that Ferrari is putting the F430 through the paces.. Rumor, not in this article, but via the grapevine, is that it's faster than the Vette and the GTR-VSpec by a very decent margin. Shumi put one into the guard rail at 155+ mph...

Retired Formula One champion Michael Schumacher has continued his recent run of close calls at the wheel of high speed vehicles.

Following several falls as he enjoys semi-amateur motorcycle riding, it is now being reported that the 39-year-old German crashed a Ferrari road car last week while testing at the notorious Nordschleife circuit at the Nurburgring.

Last Tuesday, Schumacher was not injured when his prototype 430 Scuderia struck a guardrail and was written off, Bild newspaper said.

It is suggested that Ferrari was using the partially-damp circuit exclusively, when its former champion went off at more than 250kmh.

"Michael called me and said 'We have crashed the car but are going to continue with another one'," Schumacher's spokeswoman Sabine Kehm confirmed.

Seems that that's been disputed by Ferrari themselves....

Did Michael Schumacher Crash a 430 Scuderia at the 'Ring?

Playstation professionals beware, the Nürburgring Nordschleife forgives nobody, including a seven time World Champion. Michael Schumacher crashed a modified Ferrari 430 Scuderia last Tuesday at Schwedenkruz, the superfast left corner. The car apparently totalled on the half wet half dry track...

The report was published by german newspaper Bild but Ferrari disputes Schumacher was actually driving. Ferrari had booked the track for private testing and a 430 Scuderia was crashed however spokesman Luca Colajanni claimed Schumacher was the passenger and that the car was driven by Dietrich test driver Raffaele DeSimone.

Schumacher press liason Sabine Kehm said "Michael called me and said we had an accidend but we'll continue in another car" and went on to dipell the rumor that Schumacher's son Mick was on board at the time.

So don't feel bad next time you stuff it at the Nürburgring, it happens to the best, the only difference is they have a better press office!

Note the article mentions a modified Scud- Autoblog are speculating it may be a test mule for either the f430's replacement or the Enzo replacement...

Ferrari: Schumacher didn't crash the prototype Scuderia

Following yesterday's report that Michael Schumacher had crashed a prototype Ferrari 430 Scuderia on the Nurburgring, some things have come into focus, but little has become any clearer. Ferrari insists that, although Schumi had been driving the car that day, it was actually the factory's road car test driver Raffaele de Simone who was driving when the car hit the guardrail at 250 km/h. Photographs show that the 7-time world champion had been driving the car with his young son Mick – himself just starting out in karting – riding shotgun... with neither of them wearing helmets. Meanwhile, though the car is being described as a prototype, nothing about the exterior of the car appears different (aside from the Perspex sliding windows, and of course the "aerodynamic modifications" around the rear left wheel), and though the car was described as a right-off, the damage looks quite minimal for a 155-mph collision.

Mick did take a ride around the ring with his dad, but it wasn't when Michael was going flat out and he wasn't in the car when it hit the guard rail. Michael wasn't driving the car when it went into the guard rail either, he was a willing passenger only. Mick was waiting in the pits. Ferrari telling the truth.
