Is it time to close the pits during a SC again?

I think it should be as fuel should no longer be an issue and thing like yesterday should stop as a result.

What are your thoughts?

Why don't they just do like in Le mans? The saftycar waits and picks up the leader.

This might be something to look into. Maybe closing the pits except to change to wets in the event of rain, or allowing the cars in the incident to do repair work like fix a down tyre but not to allow regular changes.

I think yes, with no refuelling, there is no reason why the pit lane can't be closed while the safety car is out.

The way it should be like - as soon as race control announces the "SC deployed" message, the pits are closed. SC comes out, waits to pick up the race leader, then all the cars queue behind the SC car in the order they were running before the SC came out. One lap before the SC is due to come in, lapped cars (if any) are allowed to unlap themselves. Once the SC is in, normal racing resumes, at exactly the same running order as there was before the SC, and the pits re-open.

Or is that too sensible for the FIA?

Much too sensible. And it leaves no room for manipulation. Therefore not going to happen.

So the SC was planned to stop Alonso? sorry it was just bad luck for us, just like the SC at Monaco was good luck for us, never heard much complaints about that though from Alonso and his fans.....

Ofcourse it was just bad luck, but that doesn't mean one can't get angry if these things happen.
It just should not be possible that it happens in the top of the top, Formula 1.

Would this idea work? If the SC doesn't pick up the leader let the cars behind pass and follow the leader round until they pick up the SC? Surely this would be safe since the leader hadn't been picked up and he was allowed to drive round following the delta time. In this case Hamilton, Alonso and Massa would have been allowed to pass the SC and follow Vettel round and the race order would have been kept and they would have picked up the SC together.

I never Understood what was wrong with the OLD SCrules before MADMAX changed them the 1st time.
Its very simple SC boared goes out waved yellows abd all radio instruction slow down and no over taken etc then the SC car is Not realsed untill the LEADER is coming down home straight so the SC car picks him up Immediatley.
Instead saftey car chasing the lead car as is now.

sorry they dont, they have 2-3 safety cars, each pick up a group of cars, as the field and track is WAY to big to be following around behind 1 safety car.

But they do it in GTs and touring cars. It would make perfect sense.RBR should of told Seb Vettel to slow on main straight so pick up SC. Him and Lewis (lewis cheated) got massive advantage. You could have the field go round for 1 lap behind SC before pitting. Instead of what we got yesterday.

But yes i agree, as we have no longer refuelling, close the pits. Simple. Well it is to us fans but not FIA.:roll
