In 2014, nine of the top ten most expensive cars at auction were Prancing Horses

Maranello, 29 December 2014

2014 is coming to a close and it has been a record year for collectable cars: not only did it feature the highest ever winning bid of 38.115 million dollars for a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO sold by Bonhams, in Monterey, but also the total for sales in the United States – the biggest market for rare cars – went from 1.2 billion dollars in 2013 to 1.3 in the current year.

The Ferrari marque is the undisputed top dog, with nine out of the ten most expensive cars sold in specialist auctions, seeing an increase in its value of 43%.

Second behind the 1962 250 GTO sold by Bonhams, was the 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale, which went under the hammer at the RM Auction in Monterey for 26.400 million dollars. The third most expensive Ferrari in 2014 was the 1954 Ferrari 375-Plus Spider Competizione, sold by Bonhams at Goodwood, UK for 18.400 million dollars.

After these came the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider, which went for 15.180 million dollars at the Gooding and Company auction at Pebble Beach, the 1964 Ferrari 250 LM (11.550 million dollars at the RM Auction in Monterey), the 1967 Ferrari GTB/4 which had belonged to Steve McQueen (10.175 million dollars at the RM Auction in Monterey), the 1958 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spyder (8.800 million dollars at the RM Auction in Scottsdale), the 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/C (which went under the hammer for 7.860 million dollars at the RM auction in Monte Carlo) and finally, the 1953 Ferrari 250 Mille Miglia Berlinetta (7.860 million dollars at Bonhams in Monterey).

Fantastic! :clap :dance :ferrarifl

Such big money numbers show exactly what Ferrari means in the automotive world and why it's the best and most legendary car brand.

Those are really lucky people who get to own such beautiful masterpieces.

I think these big numbers just show how much ppl will spend to say "I have that". But glad it's a Ferrari on top instead of a Jaguar.

Well, that goes for art too in a certain way, just like almost everything! But I feel like it's logic that Ferrari's are worth so much because it's not only the brand it self but a lot of these auctioned cars have a nice history (winning important races, famous drivers) as well!

People spend such large sums of money to get to own a Ferrari and a great piece of automotive history. The fact that 9 out 10 most expensive cars ever sold are Ferraris and not any other car brand shows exactly what Ferrari means to people. If I had such money to spend then I would buy a 250 GTO or 250 GT SWB California Spyder as well and not because I would want to brag with it and say "I have that" but because it's a Ferrari and an amazing piece of automotive history.

The sad thing is, it will probably never be used for what it was made for...driving...again.
There was a show on a few years ago with Alan DeCadenet, on Speed..he drove and talked about Ferrari's
from the beginning up to the 333SP, when the show was made. N he drove every one of them. Excellent.
