EDO REVEALS HARDCORE FERRARI ENZO
German tuner gives FXX power to a roadgoing Enzo
Very nice, but can we see the nose, please? If there's one thing it's hard to imagine a Ferrari Enzo requiring, it's more power. Yet that's just what German tuner Edo Competition can now provide, should you want it.
Edo has created what it calls the Enzo XX. Putting aside for a moment the thought that this might be like adding lipstick and blusher to the Mona Lisa, Edo's list of modifications for the Enzo does seem impressive.
A lot of work has gone on in the engine bay, with Edo fitting titanium valve springs and connecting rods, new steel cylinders and pistons that push swept capacity up 300cc to 6.3 litres, and new camshafts. Ancillary tweaks include new exhaust manifolds, a sports air filter and air-ram system, and a new oil pump.
Mean-looking wheels, but still no front viewAll that is enough to bump power up to 788bhp from the original car's 651bhp and torque up to 575lb ft from 485lb ft. As a result Edo claims some pretty sharp performance figures, with 62mph arriving in an estimated 3.2sec (half a second quicker than in a standard Enzo), 186mph (300kph) reached from rest in 19.0sec, and a final claimed top speed of 236mph (a standard Enzo will crack 'just' 217mph).
Helping to control all that extra power are independently adjustable dampers like those fitted to the Enzo-based Maserati MC-12 racer.
The styling package may be a little less appealing than the work done on the innards (and you have to wonder why Edo won't show the nose of its XX in pictures), but those wheels are certainly striking.
And, of course, the XX is a tweaked Enzo you can actually take on the road and drive home - unlike an FXX. As for the price, well, if you have to ask..
