I'd like Webber to do it i suppose, if FA can't get in there. He's gone up in my estimation this year, SV has done the opposite.

I remember the years where we could start the season with the old car

...start with an old car, and still win races....that was the good old days
.....i have a feeling that FERRARI F2012 will be a winner starting from Melbourne....and Alonso will finally get his hands on a championship winning car and clinch his third WDC!!!

If memory serves, isn't that what Ferrari did at the beginning of 2003, then Introduce a B-Spec at Imola or Barcelona?

I heard a similar rumour earlier this season about the intro of a B spec, that would be just fantastic. Personally, I think that they should fight tooth and nail to save this years championship.

Yeah, there were rumours of a B-Spec being introduced this year weren't there?
Perhaps the introduction of the EBD and F-Duct were the "B-Spec"?

In my opinion, if the Monza result is "bad", i still feel Alonso could get the WDC with 5 to go
    WCC? I don't think so

I feel there's so much circumstance still to come....driver/team errors, reliability, weather, today's outcome, possible driver injuries, mad irishmen or disgruntled Merc employees trying to join the race, adverising hoardings falling onto the track (yes, YOU Interlagos) .....and the new points structure too. Plus Red Bull and their driver's comparative lack of experience being in the "zone" for the titles.

It's only just getting started, imo

Nope. Time to cut our losses. Make F2011 a winning car, wrap up the championships by September, start developing F2012 and so on

Tis dis heartening to hear ferrari talking like this again .. Twas bad enough last year but the F60 was a dog of a car. We may bring back the dream team of Ross brawn and Rory Byrne to design a championship winning car but what are the chances of dat happening again..

I think we are too far behind w/the current points system for the wcc, if, n thats a big if, FA manages to win at Monza, then we may
still have an outside chance for the wdc...pretty outside methinks...so yea, start on the F2011..this year hasnt been terrible, but we've had some strange races..
silly predicaments..weird safety car stuff..its almost as if the odds were against us since the start of the year...this years cars was pretty good on some tracks, n we
won a few. I remember years when we didnt winnathang...n if we do manage to be out of it, I would like to see Massa win one....

Guys look at this way Nando is 41 points behind Hamster.

Thats more or less awin and 3rd place away. Look at it another way based on last years points system he is only 16 pts behind with 6 races remaining.

    6 races to go.
One of those 6 races produced a great result for us and a bad one for our competition
Suddenly things look a lot closer with 5 more races to go
An eternal optimist - maybe, but even so the above is infinitely possible and only one race away from reality

Yeah, if u see it in last years points system... it really looks do-able. We can win it.

^ Yep, agreed Fiondella & Spanky

We just never know what's gonna happen do we? ..... circumstances etc, and i love it that way
We clearly have a chance with FA and the WDC.
He can do it, i think he's a great driver

i'm pretty sure he KNOWS about the OLD point system and his chances at winnning it still; that's why he's cautiously saying that there are still chances at winning it...

and it would be so SWEET if HE does....

I must admit, on paper, the odds don't look good to me of either a WDC or WCC. But, the optimism in this thread is infectious. You've picked me up a bit, and you're absolutely right. It's on. Bring the noise Monza!!

And remember 2007 when Hamster shot his bolt he had 107 pts and kimi had 90 pts at the beginning of the japanese with 3 races remaining equivalent to a lead of approx 43 pts today. So I think we should def not give up

That is the announcement of the famous Italian marque's F1 boss Stefano Domenicali, referring to Fernando Alonso's
41 point gap to the championship leader with just six races left to run.

"Should Monza go really badly and Red Bull's lead continues to increase, then on Monday we will begin to use all of our staff and resources for the project of next season's car," he is quoted by the sports daily Corriere dello Sport.

F1 experts and pundits, including Bernie Ecclestone and Niki Lauda, have recently played down expectations that Alonso will be able to emulate the role formerly played at Ferrari by Michael Schumacher.

Domenicali disagrees: "Alonso reminds me very much of Schumacher.

"Since I've been with Ferrari, I have not seen a driver who has as strong a presence in Maranello, and follows all of our activities with the same conviction" as the Spaniard, he added.

That seems a little harsh to write off an entire season based on one event ... but I'm not that that position so I guess I don't know all the details. Thanks for sharing this article.

I have to agree with Ferrari's decision. That's not to say they aren't going to fight at each race for points. Ferrari was in a unique position coming off last season where they had Massa returning from a major injury and Alonso as a new driver. With a healthy and full season under their belts, I'm sure the feedback to the engineers will be much more useful. We have top drivers and a top team, so lets get our confidence back and push forward.

Same here. I was livid after the whole front wing fiasco at Silverstone, and was incredibly happy after Webber's #2 driver remark. He's got the talent, maturity, and patience to win it, whereas Vettel only has the talent at this point.
