Please re-read my comments. Its not about lap times, its about characteristic of the cars that does hints at how well they are in certain respect, such as braking stability, aero downforce and so on.

Teams may not string together a strong lap time, but they do test the performance of the car in various aspects, only separately.

Last year, during the winter testing, all the tell tale sign that Red Bull would be dominating were seen during the testing. While I'm not implying that Red Bull will dominate again this year, my point here is that these are the minor things we should look out for.

That's exactly what happened last year isn't it? Massa was fastest at one of the first tests and look what happened after that. Come on guys, surely we shouldn't have to go through this at each testing session? Just sit back and watch Ferrari work without constantly worrying where we stand in comparison to the rest. We have the entire season to worry if need be, lets just enjoy the testing at least without worries.

My thoughts exactly--you beat me to it.
There are no points for the fastest in testing but on Sunday afternoon that's what matters!!!!

I actually am more reassured cause we are not trying to set fast times. Shows a quiet confidence. Its like we are just going about our job, knowing full well the capabilities of the car will speak for itself come australia.

So i have no issues AT ALL if we dont even figure during testing. As long as the team is confident, i think we can be.

10:17 Another 1m19s from Webber - this time a 1m19.769s. The Red Bull is looking nailed to the circuit.
This is what counts, aside from the times. A RB going on rails just like they have been doing in 2010/2011.

It will be very interesting if we would be able to find out exactly what are we testing, because we neither do long runs neither do we go for fast times. We are yet to even put the soft tyre on and in our runs there is huge difference from lap to lap

Exactly. These are the kind of things I'm looking for, how well the car behaves on track. In testing, its all about qualitative values, not quantitative.

Hopefully we'll see such comments about Ferrari too later on.

Rb is showing that they are afraid. No one needs fast times right now.

It is second day of testing. What we are doing is making sure the car is working as intended (don't forget we have a lot of things to test because of the agressive car design). There is 10 more days to test, so please, calm down

10:27 The RB8 does look mighty in that middle sector

I very much doubt that RB has to be afraid of anything.

They are comparing it against the Torro Roso (because they are the other ones "pushing") Of course it looks mighty.

Webber is really cranking it up - he lowers today's top time to a 1m19.184s.

We keep the fast time for Melbourne Q3 guys, test is DATA gathering and well has it says on the packet TESTING!!! Ferrari know what that Baby is capable of and there no point showing it just for the sack of it which would attrack the media and FIA on us!! lets keep it slow I say....

There was a post from Ferrari at the start of the day saying:

Today's work will be the same as yesterday. We need to collect as many data as possible to understand better the behaviour of the car.
So, don't expect to see spectacular lap times from our side.
What is important is that we do our job in the proper way.

Come on guys, let the RedBull to race now, we will save it to Australia.

top 3 teams were not close ni 2010. Red Bull were significantly faster than us and Mclaren. They just made alot of mistake which made the championship closer.

@andrewbensonf1: BBC F1 tech analyst Gary Anderson on Ferrari: "It looks reluctant to do a time. OK, they have a programme but hard to hold a quick car back"

Sorry couldn't resist....ok, i'll tweet to Benson that some people need to realize this is pre- season testing.

Don't be surprise if Ferrari have a lot more to test before they can focus on the performance. We have many new components this year, the major ones being pull rod suspensions front and back

If we can finish this week without breaking the suspension or any major problem, I'll take it as a good sign

As for Red Bull, there isn't much major new parts to be seen, so they could probably focus on the performance aspect earlier.

this times mean nothing the STR is a whole second faster and i can bet all my money that we would be faster than them by a significant margin.i'm sure that the top teams if they want can easily dip in the 1.17
