RAIN HALTS THE SECOND FREE PRACTICE SESSION AT COTA
The 28 entrants for Sunday’s 6 Hours of The Circuit of The Americas had barely been running for 10 laps when the heavens opened this afternoon, and everyone came into the pits. Indeed, many cars did no more than 3 or 4 laps before calling the second Free Practice Session to an early halt and returning the cars to the pit garages.
Taking advantage of 20 minutes of a reasonably dry track, Toyota’s No.8 TS030 Hybrid shows itself at the top of the time sheets ahead of the two Audis with a time of 2:00.756. The No.26 G-Drive Racing ORECA Nissan led the two OAK Racing Morgan Nissans in LMP2, its fastest lap being recorded as 2:10.989.
Aston Martin Racing maintained its dominance in both the LMGTE Pro and Am categories, with the No.99 setting the pace in the former with a lap of 2:17.808 and the No.96 Vantage V8 setting the mark for the latter at 2:18.138.
The weather conditions deteriorated considerably as the afternoon wore on, and all are hoping that it will be dry tomorrow for the third and final one-hour of practice at 08:40 Hours (local) tomorrow morning.

FIA WEC 2014 CALENDAR UNVEILED: BUILDING ON SOLID FOUNDATIONS
The provisional 2014 calendar for the FIA World Endurance Championship was announced today at the Circuit of the Americas.
The calendar features the same eight circuits as this season but with an adjustment to the end of the year so that the final in Bahrain will be two weeks earlier compared to this year’s calendar.
Gerard Neveu, CEO of the FIA WEC, said: “This calendar represents a further step to establishing the brand of the FIA World Endurance Championship in the countries that we visit. It is important for the seven races outside of the 24 Hours of Le Mans to have a stable calendar so the fans know when and where the FIA WEC will be bringing the Spirit of Le Mans to a circuit near them. It also represents stability for our teams, sponsors and partners and it will allow us to be able to continue to build on the foundations that have been laid over the past two seasons.”
Pierre Fillon, President of the ACO, said: “2014 will be a very interesting year with the launch of the new LMP1 regulations and the arrival of Porsche with their P1 challenger to rival the cars from Audi and Toyota. We also expect to see more cars in LMP2 and GTE as the championship continues to grow. I am very happy with this calendar as it gives stability for the teams and partners in these difficult economic times. I am looking forward to an exciting 2014 season.”

Red White and Blue (and Wet) in the Heart of Texas
AUSTN, TX September 20, 2013 – The remnants of Hurricane Manuel brought additional flavor to this afternoon’s qualifying for the International Sports Car Weekend at the Circuit of the Americas. Chris McMurry qualified the #16 Lola Mazda in the rain, setting the second fastest P1 time and fifth overall best for tomorrow’s inaugural American Le Mans Series race here at COTA, the only FIA Grade 1 facility in the U.S.
“I would have loved to have had another ten laps. I am actually getting to enjoy the rain,” said McMurry. “The car was really quite good, so that was giving me confidence. There was another two or three seconds in the car, but it went well and I am happy.”
This is the third of four races this year for Tony Burgess and Chris McMurry in the #16 Dyson entry. Tony Burgess drove the majority of the initial test session Tuesday here at the home of the American F1 race. “It is a great facility. The track is a modern Formula One track which means it is very smooth and has a big mix of corners, including various super tight and technical corners. Turn One is an interesting turn with the speed you carry down the front straight and then steep uphill, while at the top, it is such a slow corner– very unique, and different. Normally you would not get that sort of combination on a natural terrain track.”
This is the first time here for both Tony Burgess and Chris McMurry and Chris was impressed. “It is a great to have this in the United States because it is an incredible circuit. There is literally not a bump in the track. For people who drive in the United States, we are used to bumpy tracks but here, it is as smooth as silk. It is a fairly demanding circuit, and is quite technical, much more than I imagined. I played it on Xbox and watched videos, and did as much preparation as I could. It is a tighter circuit than I thought it would be: there are four corners where you are coming down to first or second gear. But all in all, really fun to drive.”
This inaugural ALMS race at COTA is the eighth round of the ten-race 2013 ALMS season and the only shared weekend with the FIA World Endurance Championship this year. Chris Dyson is also participating in this weekend’s sports car doubleheader and will be co-driving the #41 Greaves Motorsport Zytek P2 entry in Sunday’s six-hour WEC race. “This track has an amazing combination of corners which are pretty relentless. It is one of the more technical tracks that we race on in the U.S. You have a combination of corners which is unlike what you will see anywhere else. It creates a unique challenge for the engineers and as a driver, you have to be really disciplined in your execution. So it ends up being a lap that is very satisfying when you get it right.”
ESPN2 will carry tomorrow’s ALMS race at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 22. ESPN3 will offer live streaming of the race on Saturday beginning at 4.30 p.m. Sunday’s WEC six-hour race will be streamed live on www.fiawec.com starting at Noon ET on Sunday.

They will be alongside their team mates in the No.1 Audi on the front row.
Behind them on the second row of the grid will be the Toyota TS030 Hybrid of Davidson-Buemi-Sarrazin, and the LMP1 Privateer entry, the No.12 Rebellion Racing Lola Coupe Toyota.
In LMP2 the No.26 G-Drive Racing ORECA Nissan headed the two OAK Racing Morgan Nissans. The Russian-backed G-Drive car's average lap time of 1:54.951 was set by Conway and Martin, watched by their team mate Roman Rusinov.

FIRST POLE OF 2013 FOR CHAMPIONSHIP LEADERS AT THE CIRCUIT OF THE AMERICAS
21/09/2013 - 22h13
First Pole of 2013 for Championship Leaders at the Circuit of the Americas Allan McNish and Loic Duval posted the best four lap average in the nr2 Audi R18 e-tron quattro during qualifying for the 6 Hours of Circuit of the Americas. The current championship leaders’ average lap was 1m48.355, 0.262 seconds ahead of teammates Andre Lotterer and Marcel Fassler in the nr1 Audi and 1.341s ahead of the nr8 Toyota TS030 Stephane Sarrazin and Sebastien Buemi after the 25 minute session. Sarrazin’s session was blighted by a collision with the nr32 Lotus-Praga T128 of Jan Charouz, which put the Toyota into a spin at T1 and forced the Japanese team to replace the rear wing assembly on the pitstop to handover to Buemi. The lone LMP1 Privateer entry, the nr12 Rebellion Racing Lola-Toyota was fourth fastest with a 1m52.081 average. After their success in Brazil with pole and victory in the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo, the LMP2 pole in the USA was claimed by the G Drive Racing Oreca-Nissan of Mike Conway and John Martin. The session started badly when a faulty starter motor left Martin stranded in the pitlane for five minutes but once the car fired up the Australian soon appeared at the top of the timing screens, with Conway continuing the momentum to set an average time over the four best laps of 1m54.656, 1.010 seconds ahead of the nr24 Oak Racing Morgan-Nissan of Olivier Pla and Alex Brundle. The nr35 Oak Morgan of Bertrand Baguette and Martin Plowman was third fastest, just 0.072 seconds adrift of their teammates. The 6 Hours of Circuit of the Americas is due to start tomorrow at 11:00 (CT) / 18:00 (CET) / 17:00 (BST) and the race will be streamed live on the official website at www.fiawec.com as well as on MotorsTV in Europe and partially live on Eurosport2 and Eurosport International.

ASTON MARTIN ON POLE FOR THE SIX HOURS OF CIRCUIT OF THE AMERICAS
Austin, USA, 21 September 2013 - Aston Martin Racing will start the inaugural FIA World Endurance Championship(WEC) Six Hours of Circuit of the Americas from the front of the GTE Pro grid tomorrow (22 September) with its #99 Vantage GTE, thanks to an impressive qualifying session from Bruno Senna (BR) and Fred Makowiecki (FR).
In the 25-minute session, the #99 Vantage GTE and its sister car, the #98, swapped places at the top of the table several times, but it was the Northwest and Valero-liveried #99 that came out on top with an average lap time of 2:04.628.
The #98, driven in the session by Pedro Lamy (PT) and Richie Stanaway (NZ), eventually qualified in third position and it was the 21-year old New Zealander who recorded the fastest GTE lap of the day – 2:04.014 – to take the car’s average lap time down to 2:04.919. Team-mate Paul Dalla Lana (CN) will take the start in tomorrow’s race.
Darren Turner (GB) and his new team-mate for this weekend only, Oliver Gavin (GB), qualified in sixth in the GTE Pro class 0.6s behind pole position. Stefan Mücke (D) completes the car’s line-up for tomorrow’s race.
Bruno Senna, who has now been on pole for four out of the five WEC races this season, comments: “I’m really happy with today’s result. The team did a great job especially considering that we missed part of this morning session. Fred did a great job to give us the advantage early on and then I pushed hard to secure the pole. It’s great to start from the front but there is a lot of work to do to win the race.”
Fred Makoweicki, who has qualified on pole for all three of his WEC appearances with Aston Martin Racing adds: “Its great to be on pole for tomorrow’s race. It’s much easier to be on the front row for the start but it’s really important for us to win this race. Bruno and I have had three poles together this year so we really want to get our win. Bruno is a great team-mate – he did a fantastic job today and I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”
In the GTE Am class, the #95’s run of three consecutive pole positions was brought to an end as Danish drivers Nicki Thiim and Christoffer Nygaard qualified in second place just 0.013 seconds behind the pole sitter after Christoffer was blocked by a competitor on his final fastest lap.
In the GTE Am class, the #96 Vantage GTE of Jamie Campbell-Walter (GB) and Stuart Hall (GB) qualified in fourth.
Team principal at Aston Martin Racing, John Gaw, adds: “Traffic affected this qualifying session with both Ritchie in the #98 and Christoffer in the #95 car being blocked by the same competitor and Olly unfortunately losing time due to a spinning car, all on their fastest laps.
"We were very close to the Am class pole, only 0.013 seconds, off and it was great to secure the Pro class pole and the points that go with this. Of course the race is long and much will happen I am sure on this technical and traffic affected circuit.”
The Six Hours of the Circuit of the Americas gets underway at 1100hrs local time on Sunday 22 September. Follow the team’s progress www.astonmartin.com/racing, on Facebook www.facebook.com/astonmartinracing or on Twitter using @amr_official

Texas-Sized 7th Straight Win For Graf, Luhr
Tucker, Briscoe Win In P2; Cumming, Marcelli Score Big For BAR1 At COTA
AUSTIN (Sept. 21) – Lucas Luhr and Klaus Graf cruised to their seventh consecutive American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón victory Saturday in the International Sports Car Weekend race, lapping the field twice at Circuit of The Americas.
Luhr and Graf led all the way in the No. 6 Muscle Milk Pickett Racing HPD ARX-03c, completing 83 laps over the two-hour, 45-minute race. Luhr extended his ALMS-leading victory total to 48. The winners averaged xx mph in the race, run start to finish under the green flag.
With the ALMS competitors racing on the sparkling 3.4-mile layout for the first time, teams had the opportunity to test on Tuesday and Thursday under warm conditions. Muscle Milk Pickett Racing opted not to test – taking to the track for the first time on a rainy Friday for practice and qualifying.
“Lucas took the lead going into the first corner, and took off from there,” Graf said. “With little to no dry running, hats off to the team and the setup. We’ve really put together an excellent package. Now we want to win the last two races – especially Petit Le Mans – and if we can give Lucas his 50th win it would be unbelievable.”
Tony Burgess and Chris McMurry finished second in the No. 16 Dyson Racing Mazda/Thetford/Norcold Lola B12/60. Katherine Legge and Andy Meyrick completed the P1 podium, despite falling out in the closing minutes in the debut of the coupe version of the No. 0 DeltaWing DWC-13.
Level 5 Motorsports rebounded from an early challenge by Extreme Speed Motorsports to place 1-2 in the P2 class. Scott Tucker won for the sixth time this season, co-driving with Ryan Briscoe in the No. 551 Siemens/Alpina Watches/Ohiya Casino Resort HPD ARX-03b. Marino Franchitti and Guy Cosmo placed second in the team’s No. 552 entry, 5.279 seconds behind at the finish.
“It wasn’t very dramatic for us, which was nice for once,” said Tucker, whose 24th career victory came one race after a major disappointment at Baltimore, when a first lap accident ended his day. Unofficially, Franchitti now leads Cosmo by four points (141-137), with Tucker third with 129 points.
Kyle Marcelli and Chris Cumming scored their first Prototype Challenge presented by Continental Tire (PC) victory of the season in the No. 8 BAR1 Motorsports Evident Capital/MBRP Performance Exhaust Merchant Services ORECA FLM09.
“The competition is so good and so close, you have to be ready from the get-go,” said Marcelli. “This is the best of the best, and you have to bring your ‘A’ game to win races. We’ve had little mistakes in each race that cost us ... this was a mistake-free race.”
Mike Guasch captured the points lead in the class after finishing second, co-driving with Dane Cameron in the No. 52 PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports Molecule ORECA FLM09.
The next ALMS event will be at Virginia International Raceway on Oct. 5, the last race before the season-ending Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta on Oct. 20.

AUSTIN, TX September 21, 2013 – Uneventful is often an underrated positive. Tony Burgess and Chris McMurry started second and finished second in the #16 Dyson Racing Lola Mazda at today’s American Le Mans Series race at the Circuit of the Americas. The car ran with no mechanical issues and the drives were mistake free. The race was run without a single yellow and the last time that happened was in May of 2009 at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah.
It was a textbook race at the newest permanent road course in the U.S. Chris McMurry started the late afternoon race. Fifty minutes into the two hour and forty-five minute race, Chris stopped for fuel, tires and driver change to Tony Burgess. Toward the end of Tony’s stint, team manager Michael White radioed and asked how he was doing, to which he replied. “I could do this all day.” Tony came in for the last stop an hour and forty-eight minutes into the race and Chris got back in to finish the race.
Tony enjoyed his run. “This is one of those tracks where the more you race on it, the more you see how it works and certainly that was the case today,” commented Burgess. “My drive today was actually quite conservative. With the weather this week, plus it being our first time here, we were a little behind the curve in terms of proper practice. Even if you sort out the track during the race, that does not mean that you can take chances. So it is always best not to overextend yourself or the car.”
“I was more relaxed in the car for my second stint,” said McMurry. “We were in fuel conservation mode for most of the last stint, but we were still able to run 1:57’s. We tried a different tire compound during the second stint and I think it was a bit sturdier and faster. I had some good fun with the Muscle Milk car for five or six laps. I cheated and turned it back to a richer setting so we could run with them and that was good fun. So it was a really great day. The team did a fantastic job and the car was easy to drive: it behaved the whole race as it did in qualifying. I really enjoy driving this car; I wish I could do it for other ten or twenty years!”
This is a shared weekend with the FIA World Endurance Championship with a combined sixty-one cars between the two series. Chris Dyson is co-driving the #41 Greaves Motorsport Zytek P2 entry in tomorrow’s six-hour WEC race and qualified the car earlier today seventh in P2 .
“Missing the day on Friday due to the rain was challenging. But having said that, I think we have a solid race car. We've been focusing on the race setup and qualifying was a chance for us to try another step. We are making another change for the race and I have full confidence in Tom, Christian and myself that if we run a trouble-free race, we will get a result.”

ASTON MARTIN WINS BOTH CLASSES IN AUSTIN
Austin, 22 September - Aston Martin Racing has won both GTE classes at the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Six Hours of Circuit of the Americas and has also finished second in the GTE Am class. It is now leading the GTE Am championship with the #96 Vantage GTE thanks to this win and the win in São Paulo three weeks ago.
The GTE Pro race-winning #99 Vantage GTE of Bruno Senna (BR) and Fred Makowiecki (FR) started from the front of the grid following yesterday’s qualifying session. Throughout the six-hour race, the pair fought tirelessly to fend off attacks from the fierce competition and eventually crossed the finish line 15 seconds ahead of the second place car.
“That was an awesome weekend!” comments Senna. “We were quick all week and we were very competitive. It’s great to share this WEC win with Fred - it’s a proud moment for us. We’re both so pleased to be here and we’re grateful to our sponsors that made it possible.”
Makowiecki, who started the race adds. “Yes, we were really competitive this weekend. We took a gamble with the fuel strategy and double stinted the tyres and it paid off. I’m really happy to win with Bruno – he’s a great driver and we were due a win together.”
In the GTE Am class, the #95 Vantage GTE of Nicki Thiim (DN), Christoffer Nygaard (DN) and Kristian Poulsen (DN) and the #96 of Stuart Hall (GB) and Jamie Campbell-Walter (GB) dominated, and the pair lead the rest of the pack by almost a minute. Both cars took their turn in leading the race and were wheel-to-wheel until the finish line. When the chequered flag waved, it was Campbell-Walter’s #96 that crossed the line first with #95 driven by Poulsen just 1.7 seconds behind.
“What a fantastic result!” comments Campbell-Walter. “It’s a shame again that Roald [Goethe] isn’t here but I’m sure he’s watching at home. Stuart did a fantastic job and the guys in the pit lane put in a faultless performance. I had a good battle with Kristian – I had to be careful because he’s a team-mate. He put up a good fight but I managed to get past with 15 minutes to go.”
Hall adds: “It was a really close race but Jamie did a mega job. Again, this is for Roald; he was supposed to be here but he had to pull out for a business commitment and we miss him loads. We’ve just learned that we are now leading the GTE Am championship, which is a great way to head into the final three rounds.”
The #97 and #98 cars both fell victim to the high curbs of the Circuit of the Americas, which caused damage to the floor of the cars. “Many cars have had the same issue with the curbs this weekend,” explains Turner. “I made a small mistake meaning that I had some oversteer on entry to the corner. The curbs don’t look much but they can do real damage. As soon as you hit it goes bang.
“It’s a shame because we were leading the championship. It’s not the best weekend ever but when we were on it, the car felt great. There are three more rounds so we just need to get three good race results.”
The #97 Vantage GTE is now 10 points behind the championship leader with three races to go.
“We took a significant step forward this weekend,” comments Team Principal John Gaw. “We’ve improved our position in the manufacturer’s championship and we’re now leading the GTE Am championship. We won both classes, so we must be happy, but we want to continue to push for good results for all our cars.”
“We now head to Asia for the Six Hours of Fuji, which was one of our toughest challenges last year. It will be a real test for our engineers and drivers but we look forward to that as we strive to maximise the performance for Aston Martin.”
