Grenoble Hospital: "He suffered a severe head injury with coma on arrival, which required immediate neurosurgical intervention"

    Hang in there Schumi

The induced coma, should/could help with the swelling of the brain.

Wish I could be there with him in the hospital, this waiting and slow moving info is really hard to take. *sigh*

So this is the usual "artificial coma". It IS a induced coma, but in fact it's like a prolonged, protective, anesthetic.

    Gary Hartstein ‏@former_f1doc 22m
Quality of recovery depends on: 1) severity of initial injury 2) acuteness and amplitude of pressure rise when hematoma forms...

    Gary Hartstein ‏@former_f1doc 22m
    3) rapidity with which it is drained 4) quality of neuro intensive care and rehab

    couple more tweets...

It's quite well known that extradural hematomas, a kind of cerebral hemorrhage, can leave a lucid interval after injury

    Gary Hartstein ‏@former_f1doc 26m
Then as the hematoma forms, the sudden increase in pressure causes sudden and dramatic symptoms. Pressure must be relieved rapidly.

He is about as fit, strong and healthy as a person can possibly be. If anyone can get through this, he can.

What a horrible thing. I read news few hours ago and though its not as serious, now open same article again and have to read this.
Meanwhile, it either says something or just nothing that Alonso, Schumacher and Raikkonen have reputedly spared a F1 podium on five occasions and Fernando has stood on the top step on every occasion. He's F1's first among equals. (PG)

    Jean Todt is also there...
Professor Gerard Saillant, a close ally and friend of Schumacher, and his former Ferrari team boss Jean Todt are at the hospital.

Prof Saillant is an expert in brain and spine injury. He oversaw Schumacher's medical care when the German broke his legs in the 1999 British GP.

If there is one thing Michael taught us, is that we have to stay positive no matter what. Difficult as it may be, let's try to do that now.

According to Autosprint, no more official releases from the Grenoble Hospital until tomorrow at 11:00. Seems like a long way.

Time to remember his motto of "Never Give Up"!

Wow, is he ok? Sounds like it wasnt as bad as first reported.
I was watching an old Monza where he won from Mika.
I wish him a speedy recovery.

This is tremendously worrying. The reporting is so different that who knows what is going on. Come on Michael, pull through!

Why has the news flow ended? Dr. Hartstein stopped tweeting as well... I hope that's not a bad sign.

This is not good. When I first heard the news it sounded like banging your head and have a headache for a few days, but this is very serious.....although I never have been a Schumacher fan at all, this is something you don't want to see happening to anyone. He is a husband and a father and now after all these years he finally had time to spend with them....
I wish Michael and his family all the best and I hope they will get their loved one back in good health very soon.

As of now really, be same news. As Schumi maybe/should be being operated on.

Be press conference tomorrow at 11am CET on Schumis condition.
