I think Hamilton's fastest lap, on softs, was on a much shorter stint - felt like about 6 to me.... ditto for Felipe's fastest lap also on softs and even shorter than Hamilton's.

The Ferrari has run exclusively on the white-marked mediums all day, with Vettel now just 10 laps away from a Day One century.

Would you have any idea why we're running only on those compounds this whole day as opposed to some of the others ?

Looking good so far, not reading too much into the times, but at least we got some good mileage.

I would say to compare setting changes, evaluate other changes in the car. helps to get a good basis to compare other compounds. I think Mercedes ran mostly on Softs. I think the mediums dont work too well for them in the cooler conditions.

Mileage is important, times are not too much at this point. I am sure they are running different fuel loads. Merc usually run heavy.

The car is fully loaded with fuel in the onset if he is doing this many laps, so IMO its tire deg. on those specific tyres and data collection on those tyres as well as for Pirelli.....the car gets lighter as he expends fuel as well....also for strategy purposes as well. Plus its a good base knowing where we stand....so you could probably shave off another 2 sec. with super softs.

so far from today's results I am not sure what Mercedes has in reserve, but Ferrari is close to the top of the pack so hopefully we also have some laptime in the bag and the game is on then

17:05 This is looking like a very solid start to pre season for Ferrari. Vettel has been right at the sharp end of the time sheet on mediums and has just completed a proper practice start in the pitlane with an hour left to run today. That's something we've gotten used to seeing Mercedes doing in recent seasons, but Ferrari must be making good progress already with its new car to be focusing on details like this already.
