Was there any explanation of the crash from yesterday? was it driver error or did something break?

I lol-ed so much from this sequence from F1Today.
(times indicated are local time, sorry)

    SANBAGGING FOR THE FERRARI
Vettel's lap was on the ultra soft tyre but he lifted as he crossed the start-finish line. Ferrari are sandbagging.

VETTEL SETS A NEW FASTEST LAP
Wow, Vettel gets right to it. A new fastest lap of 1:19.164 is the fastest lap we've seen in winter testing so far.

Embarrassing and sad. Speaking as a Ferrari fan, this is not funny anymore.

AND do you know why that is Gary that Ferrari has been testing on the medium tyres mostly?????????

    I do............HELLO....2016 maybe?

Can anyone explain what this statement means? "The FIA incorporated rules about what angle the side pods should be, and paragraph 3.8.8 says that that angle should be 75 degrees. This is purely to aid aesthetics - aerodynamicists would prefer the angle be 90 degrees to help air flow" What is this side pod angle they talk about?

When viewed from above, the side pod is supposed to be at a 75 degree angle from the straight line symmetry of the car....according to the rule you mentioned (3.8.8).

That's what I thought, but didn't think everyone else had them at 75 degrees. I'll go see some more pics. Thanks

Sebastian Vettel sets fastest time in F1 Testing but says Mercedes are still the team to beat in F1 2017 - Very logical from Vettel and Ferrari

21:52 Vettel's still behind the Toro Rosso and this is costing him on what we think is a race sim. That last lap was 1.5s slower than his previous

I know it's only testing and blah, blah, blah but, all in all, we've had a very promising time of it so far.

Despite that, the anti-Ferrari BS emanating from Andrew Benson at the BBC makes even the Ferrari-haters at Autosport seem pro-Scuderia.. Any obscure set of extrapolations he can come up with to make the Mercedes seem the car to beat, he will.

I hope we stuff Mercedes this year, if only to spite the glory hunting drones who shout for them.

    From Autosport:
15:28 During the first stint, with both on soft tyres, Vettel averaged 1m25.1s over 14 laps. Plus, he spent two laps tucked up behind Kvyat. Ricciardo averaged 1m26.3s over 12 laps. Advantage Ferrari so far.
15:24 Such has been the pace difference between Vettel and Ricciardo on this second stint that the two cars started the stint nose-to-tail and now Vettel crosses the line with Ricciardo not even in sight heading into Turn 13.
15:19 Three 1m24.0s from Vettel, three 1m26.0s from Ricciardo. How good are these boys?
15:18 The Ferrari just looks so much easier to thread through Turn 13 and into the chicane. Ricciardo's making it much more of an 'S' – and that was the case before he took on a harder compound of tyre than Vettel.
They both seem to be doing a race sim, 2s a lap is huge and even accounting for the fact that Ricciardo is on meds to Seb's softs.

    Damn ....
Ok so let's just say that Marko called in a "favor" from Torro Rosso, to prevent Ricciardo being lapped by Seb.

Seb looks to be more comfortable with the new car than Kimi. Hope Raikkonen proves me wrong tomorrow, but he has had a lot of misfortunes and the number of laps isnt great.

In comparison to Red Bull (Ricciardo), Vettel's race sim is super impressive.

Comparing the 2nd stint of Vettel and the stint from Ricciardo looks like we have 0.5s ahead of the RBR(not knowing the fuel etc)

20:52 Vettel's onto his 26th flying lap on these medium tyres and his pace is just starting to fade – his last two laps have been in the 1m25s.
20:47 Massa, who is at the foot of the times, sets a personal best 1m25.080s.
20:47 We've crunched the numbers for the second stint from Vettel and Ricciardo. Vettel, on softs, averaged 1m23.9s over 17 laps. Ricciardo, on mediums, averaged 1m26.1s over 16 laps.
