For the First Time: Ferrari as Contemporary Art

Michael Schumacher's Ferrari F2001—the most important modern Formula 1 race car in existence—will be offered as a major highlight of Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Evening Auction on 16 November 2017 in New York. Contemporary Art challenges traditional boundaries, making this auction the perfect setting for the Ferrari F2001—an artful combination of beauty, design, and balance.

Maybe I'm just melodramatic, but there's something about this that rubs me the wrong way.

    Disappointed Since 2010

for right now.....I have yet to come across who the seller is; most of these high priced auctions, both parties like to remain "anonymous" as they deal with a third parties.

your guess is as good as mine.

you post this like it's your ad lol.

+1 to Greig, what makes the F2001 the most important?

    I wonder if it's Frank Mountain's.

Its what the Sotheby's ad says (in the link.... post #3)....I guess they are using that phrase as a selling point.

If Ruben's radio goes up for sale; it will bring millions $$ . No true F1 investor will let it pass!

Massive figure! I wonder though, can the new owner drive the car around a track or is he only allowed to keep it as a work of art?

It could be an owner or a consortium or conglomerate of owners. That said, the car is complete (engine and electronics) instead of other F1 cars that have been sold w/o the engine and electronics....most deemed damaged (fractured chassis, twisted frame etc.) and undrivable but make a nice center piece or wall mount. I would say yes, it is drivable on a track(you need a crew to prep it and a track to rent to race it).

Just an FYI, todays F1 cars need an hour to "prep" (mostly due to the MGU's getting fully charged) when fully assembled before being driven. Not like days of old when you just got in turn the keys and off you went.

Yeah this is insane. I heard Alonso talking about it at the Indy 500 press conference.
