There is more to it than that, it depends on how much fuel is burned in the cylinder, the combustion pressure.
I was just saying, we cant base it that because its louder, its more powerful. It can be that the Renault is not burning all the fuel as Mercedes or Ferrari, or the combustion pressure is lower than Ferrari or Mercedes. One thing is, if the pressure is higher in the combustion chamber, then the explosion in the cylinder will be louder, but, if more sound is going through the exhaust, then it means more energy wasted. Also, this year, the FIA said they cannot use exhaust gases and feed it back into the engine, they have to exit the engine. So maybe Mercedes had some system they use some of the exhaust to mix with oil and coolant, then feed it back into the engine to make more power.
We dont know exactly whats going on as we are not inside the team. I was just trying to explain it as best as I could.

Merc in 1:20s on longer stint. I think they will wreck us this year.

We haven't seen what Ferrari can do on the longer runs yet

Huhh.... this mercs team do many laps straight out of the box when the session is green. Every day of the testing season, they complete 100 Laps.
No other teams are able to replicate that.

What do we hear from our own dear team we are doing own plan but each year they give false hope. I just hope this year will be different!

2015 was good compared to 2014.
2016 was bad compared to 2015.
2017 was strong compared to 2016.
Hope this year would fulfill the long waited championship.

McLaren gives the reason for Vandoorne's stoppage as a "power shutdown, which meant we lost data from the car". Team is investigating now.

The mercs split each day with both drivers, therefore each driver will try to do as many laps as possible. End of week 1 Ferrari were about 6-7 laps short of Merc so I wouldn't be too pessimistic just yet.

Yup... that too by Honda engine

But my point is every day of testing. Not on one occasional day.

I’m not criticising Ferrari here, you can see my post.
My point is, mercs do many laps straight away. Posting lap times, many laps consistently. Once there was a time, they had reliability problems. Last year they have sorted out that too.

Long base wheel has nothing to do with Ferrari failing last year -
It was Kimi not being fast enough
    Vettel losing his head
and Ferrari engine that was not reliable during the second half of the season.

So why change what was not the reason for not winning, now i guess they are trying to get use to the longer base wheel car setup

Single lap pace. He went into pits straight after that lap.
We can see two things in this, either top two didn’t push to extreme extent or Honda done good job on single lap.

I think it’s not entirely long wheel base this years car compared to mercs w08 last year.

Interesting. Last time around, the Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes were all on the start-finish straight together. The Ferrari and Mercedes are on softs, the Red Bull on ultrasofts.

    Verstappen: 1:21.325. Bottas: 1:22.231. Vettel: 1:20.887

Just for reference, the temperature here is still only 12 degrees. Hardly ideal working conditions so far.

This week I would see mercs doing lot of laps on softs.
As their strength is on mediums.

By the looks it seems to be right.
I think problem is with integration & package with McLaren.

Ferrari is configured to work better on the yellow striped tyre and it will be the choice tyre on most circuit I will predict that Ferrari will do less run on it (medium tyre)

Dont forget the soft tyre is not the same soft tyre from last year, it has shifted by 1 step

Ferrari was good on US, SS, softs last year.
But they struggled on mediums, couldn’t get that tyre working in their window.
