Hey guys......i'm struggling to find the news article that i read last night on my phone, it was about Ferrari being investigated for smoke coming out of the engine when leaving the pits. as well when it was in the pit box idling...............Do any of you guys know of this ??

I seem to remember that Sauber were also being investigated for this too.

Hope its not anything serious tho.....

I took the laptimes from yesterday’s running to create an adjusted lap time as if they were all on soft tyres. I have only taken the run length that they did their best time on and adjusted that to suit the fuel load at 0.05s per lap. It’s impossible to know the fuel loads, but you can make some judgements based on the run length.

For tyres, I have adjusted the lap times by 0.3s per compound, which seems a decent average delta. But it depends on what the car balance is like and how it suits the compound, which is why it will vary from car to car.

The Red Bull runs certainly look strong based on this, but bear in mind it has been known to run with a lower fuel level than its rivals in testing, while Mercedes is often very heavy.

    Adjusted times
    1 Red Bull 1m18.347s
    2 Mercedes 1m18.750s
    3 Renault 1m18.792s
    4 Ferrari 1m18.891s
    5 Williams 1m19.449s
6 Haas 1m19.737s (suspect lower fuel than some)

LOL Gary Anderson puts Renault ahead of Ferrari. Surely that’s enough to instill some faith in people that our times are not representative?! You can’t find like 2 seconds in an off season. You just can’t.

In testing, you really cant test a part at 80% of its operating parameters, then it is not testing. You really cannot test a engine about its reliability if you really cannot push it. James Allison said it too, there is not sandbagging in testing. It will not be a propper test if teams sandbag.
I agree fundamentally, but would argue that extrapolation be considered. I think it is possible that Ferrari is running a test program that doesn't need maximum pushing, but just enough where they are comfortable with the expected gains, with most of the attention being given to working on weaknesses from last year. Key words are "possible" and "2 more testing days".

There's worrying then there's writing the entire season off--I can see how the patterns of previous years' testing might not be encouraging, but nothing is certain as of yet. If I am worried about anything, it's the lack of track time for Kimi.

Remember that the tyre compounds are one step softer than last year's, which means the new medium/white compound is effectively last year's soft/yellow compound. If I recall, didn't Kimi go ballistic in testing last year with the yellow by dipping into the 18s? So there's no way Ferrari is slower this year, so they should also be in the low 18s on the mediums, especially with the new track. If anything, I'm glad they are not drawn into this ultimate pace battle because it's distracting and builds up too much false hope. They are doing what I'd hope they'd do: not push for ultimate lap times!

Guaranteed we usually always do qualy runs final two days of test. Track temps are expected to be lower today so don't expect Ricciardo topping times even if we do run.

Ferrari is hiding something big, mark my words. I have a good feeling that come the beginning of the season we could be the fastest car. Atmosfere in the team looks relaxed, no rush, the mechanics can work in peace.

1m18.666s on supersofts for Vettel I really want to see all the negative people on here right now...go on...especially since track conditions are worse than yesterday.

    That is quick.

Ferrari start to show their pace
Sebastian Vettel has put on the supersoft tyres and immediately betters the best of Renault and McLaren on the hypersofts by producing a lap of 1:18.666.

what if Ferrari are fastest, RB second. A straight fight between Seb and Max for the title. It would certainly be better for the neutrals rather than Ham winning again.

Red Bull running a modified bargeboard wing today. Looks a bit like the Williams version.

So how quick was that from Ferrari?
That 1:18.414 is the third fastest time so far this winter, and the quickest of all on supersofts.

Considering Daniel Ricciardo and Lewis Hamilton's Day Six efforts were on softer compounds, you could also argue that is the best tyre corrected lap of F1 Testing.

    And that's from Sky!
