There is a million variables in testing that makes speed traps useless.

The filming was on Saturday. There isn't usually any news from such days.

That is not good sign, louder engine means more power.

I'm sorry my friend, but that's teleology at its finest. And if noise was purely generated by power then the correct statement would be "louder engine means more wasted power"

Red Bull Racing has adjusted their test schedule: instead of Daniel Ricciardo, Max Verstappen will sit behind the wheel tomorrow and the next Thursday. Daniel Ricciardo drives on Wednesday and Friday during the 2nd week of F1’s Wintertest at the Barcelona circuit.

NEWS: Valtteri Bottas will be back behind the wheel of W09 on Tuesday morning, with LewisHamilton tagging in to drive in the afternoon!

#F1 #Sainz says #Ferrari & #Mercedes are "at spectacular level" & it will be hard for others to beat them

These cars are up in rpm's from last year....bout 3000 more...so they say. Have to look at on-board tachs. to know for sure. Last year they were supposed to run at 12k rpm but only ran them 11 to 11.5k rpm....for reliability. I don't think they will run them the full 15k rpm this year....again for reliability. That being said, this is testing, so engines can be re-mapped as is the case with Mercedes and Ferrari. Maybe the Merc's ran a highter rpm (due to the cold) to heat the engine faster as opposed to Ferrari. I would not worry about this.

This is exactly right. The more sound get out from the exhaust, then the more power is lost through the exhaust. This is why turbo cars are quieter than normally aspirated engined cars, because the turbo recover the energy through the exhaust, so, some of the sound is also recovered as energy. Sound is a vibration, so, vibration is energy. If you can recover this energy, then its more efficient. Exactly like you said.

Thanks for the explanation. A bit of a relief. Does it mean the Renault is more powerful as that's the least loudest

I was reading some comments, they said Merc and RB were fastest in corners when you look at data / stats. That was Ferrari's strong points last year, do you think the longer wheelbase sacrificed that?

Just an observation but that WO9 looks to have considerably narrower front bodywork than the SF71-H, anything to do with their raised front suspension arms and airflow, I wonder? It looks less bulky than the Ferrari.
