It's early days and there probably running a really low engine mode but that Honda engine looks a massive step forward potentially if it stays this way Redbull could switch to it next year

    From Autosport:
Gary Anderson is taking advantage of the lack of action to make an early start on jotting down his day one observations, which Autosport Plus and Motorsport.com Prime readers will be able to enjoy later on today. Three cars in particular have impressed him today, and the Mercedes isn't one of them.
    Might be interesting...

yep, they could have put in more laps.....but it started to drizzle then rain which I guess the Scuderia have a valid excuse. (sarcasim)

More days are going to be like this....cold and rain (heavier at times) so we need to get in as many laps as possible since there are tyres for this type of weather.

If it snows...thats another issue and it is rumoured they might cancel the day and move it to Friday.

Probably not got a lot of spare parts if someone was to crash in the wet though....

Might be making set up changes for tomorrow don't they have a curfew where you have to leave the track by a certain time or is that only for the normal season ??

Well, it seems Mclaren and Redbull are willing to take that risk. RedBull came running out of the gates for day 1 regardless of weather....not Mercedes.

Mclaren had no choice but to take that risk after the time lost in the morning and especially with it being predicted to rain tomorrow

Maybe they have more spare parts then....but in testing pretty worthless running in the wet.

Agreed about Mclaren, so whats RedBulls excuse to keep going then???

The issue is the rain....it wasn't even a deluge but enough to get the track wet. I realize this track has been resurfaced but it was not hot enough to cause the oils to seep through and making the track very slick....it was cold.

This is the part I get frustrated with....the rain and mostly everyone calls it a day....except for the few that either need to or want to.

Is it really worthless running in the wet when the main goal in testing is to get in as many laps possible.....just to see about our reliability. It does not have to be in the subs 1:20's but run the car for as long as possible.

    That's what Redbull did.

Just doing laps is not all that important, getting data is important and running in the wet probably not so much use to most teams.
