Its not strange, let me tell you why, look they are all limited to use max 3 engines without penalties. So the teams on high-fuel race simulation might go for maybe 3-4 laps to see the full potential of the car (max power) but will then turn the power down and drive to the delta in every stint. That I think is the only reason for that big drop of the time, to preserve the engine, which is critical this season.

OK. It is always nice to see two Ferrari in the front row, but... How we are really standing compared to others?

Vettel set a 1:30 "death" lap time on soft tyres (then he found just 0,2 on SS, Kimi 0,8), and in theory (Pirelli said) softs should be at least 0,6 slower than the SS tyres. So we might have a lot of pace in the bag.

it's only practice Stefa......supposedly the Mercs had their engines turned down (good explination of the top speed) not to stress them too much....

but all in all we're not in too bad of a position....we'll see tomorrow in Quali how we are and most importantly on Sunday when the points get handed out
So 2023 started off bad, but managed to claw back some lap time come end of the year. Lets hope SF24 will give us tifosi something to smile about.

VET at least had more fuel in the tank, he did 6 laps with the SS tire, everybody else did 3-4 laps only

I think it’s basically down to set-up .... Kimi & vet both on different set-up.
Tonight they will look at the data n come up with right one in FP3 & quali.

We must capitalize all this potential points from the begining, starting from this sunday. We know how it turns out the second part of the season. Also, its rarely that mercedes suffer from reliability problems.

"A Mercedes insider confirmed that Hamilton's gearbox had suffered a hydraulic leak during the race in Australia. It was only when it was inspected in the Bahrain paddock this week, under FIA supervision, that bearing damage was discovered."

Still the gearbox penalty doesnt matter, we Ferrari have to focus on ourselves. Everything is possible for the race. Would love a win of course, but we have to go step by step. First the qualifying.

    yes why not?

i haven't seen anything about BOT Gearbox change

maybe is the Allison effect coming to Merc !

Mercedes technical director James Allison admitted after practice that the team was not as comfortable with its performance as it had been at the Melbourne season opener.

"Although we were untroubled by any reliability issues, and we ran through our programme as expected, it wasn't our best day from a performance point of view," he said.

"We've got more to do overnight and in the session tomorrow to give us a car that will allow us to have a good fight in qualifying and on Sunday. The base is okay but we have not yet found the sort of edge that we had in Melbourne."

FP2 Max. speeds - Gasly powered by Honda over 326kph, Alonso with Renault 6th (6kph off), RedBull opting for highest downforce believing they could win.

I think Ferrari is in good position to capitalise quali tmrw. Car seems to working for both drivers as they are confident in attacking the corners. Where as mercs, they are lacking grip & right balance under these conditions.
