Mercs has secret tyre testing with Pirelli that’s why there too much advanced & with help of their engine.
They were caught by fric suspension system, but FIA reacted n banned it in 2017 when there using from 14-15-16.
Now again mercs taking help of Pirelli & FIA to get on top. Damn.

hopefully Pirelly and FIA will keep their word and bring thiese modified tires to ONLY these 3 races wiht new ashphalt and not turn a blind eye adn bring them to all races.....GRGGGRGRRGGRR
So 2023 started off bad, but managed to claw back some lap time come end of the year. Lets hope SF24 will give us tifosi something to smile about.

You have to remember this is Hamilton's third straight pole on this circuit and fourth in five years. Rarely that anyone is that hard to beat at a given track. Seb is not that far from Bottas and can take the fight to him. He just needs to somehow be infront of him when the mediums go on. Kimi is going to follow behind and maybe challenge for 3rd later. Fingers crossed.

Ferrari should throw its balls on FIA, else this seems to be like Merc dominating the rules etc

Just a wild guess, but I think the SS didn't work due to the colder temps and the thinner thread changes.

Softer tires tend to struggle in cold condition as they have smaller temps window, and if you cant get them high enough into that window, they struggle.
The new tires brought here have thinner thread to reduce the temperature of the tires, as some are complaining that they are overheating. (same compound though, so operating window remains the same)

Since the weather is colder today, plus the colder tires, it becomes a challenge for most cars to get them into the working temps window.
Unless the car generate too much heat on the tires to begin with. (Merc?)

Agree. Should be a good race! Seb got close today which was a relief after the rest of the weekend.

    FYI.....RedBull was using it too.

anyways....yeah, I have a sour taste in my mouth with Pirelli, Mercedes and the FIA. We can't base this one race and the other two to come (should Merc get P1 & P2 again). We should have one the prior 4 races...P1 and P2.

    It's going to be a nail-biting season.

Yesterday after fp2, what vet said is right. “The difference is tyres”.

Not the end of the world guys. Anything can happen in the race as proven in the last couple of races. The tires played a major factor in qualifying but I believe we still have the faster car.

But to favour one team, this change is not good. That’s my intention from the above post.

Seb is always right. He was right about the SC in China and he was right about the tyres here. But we knew that would be the case here.

But way Ferrari is keeping quite, the only logical thing to do would be a storm on Pirelli and FIA

They say that Pirelli made the tyre change due to new tarmac on the track.....? Not because of merc.

You knew Pirelli effed up with their compounds when the much softer tire is just a tenth faster than the next tire compound..

The good news is in the past when there was a sudden change it killed Ferrari.we r very close. so the other 2 races that will use these tires they should b able to exploite them better and gain the advantage back.no worries

Not a word from brundle or crofty about the new tyres. What a shame.

I don't know if those changes (lobbied by Mercedes and RB) helped, but imagine if Ferrari done that. Some still can't over the fact Michelin had to change their tyres in 2003, even though it's the rain at Indianapolis that saved Schumacher that year.
