    Christian Horner:

"There are some circuits coming up that should play to our strengths, places like Hungary and Singapore."

RB had the best car in Monaco don't see why Hungary won't suit their car as well. Hungary wants a quick, agile machine as BHP isn't a premium there the straights aren't long enough. Ferrari has a longer wheelbase this year than last and likely sacrificed the major advantage we had at Hungary (and Monaco and Singapore) last year. We'll see...

Red Bull was quickest in Monaco 2016 as well but were thoroughly beaten in Hungary and Singapore. Red Bull will be the team to beat in Singapore just like last year, they may still be the quickest car in Hungary but it will be tough for them to beat Sebastian.

Red Bull will be the best car in Singapore but Vettel will grab pole just like last year.
You should give up with predictions...tbh

This race will be a bit harder to win apparently. The good news is that it's harder because of RB in the mix and not because Merc are stronger than us. Its just that RB have a bigger chance due to the nature of the track that offers a little bit of everything. This means that setup is going to be CRUCIAL to get right. Hope we learned a lot from practise. Forza!

You pay to much attention to the fly on the wall(some users on the forum) , rather than what's going on in the room(people who have a clue what they're talking about here)

why are we losing so much speed in the corners? i thought we sorted that out after barca, just like austria , all the downforce sections ferrari are losing the time but atleast it seems the car is good in straights, might be very competitive in monza. Was kinda upset that new exhaust idea was a dud since it never show up again atleast compared to previous years ferrari are trying a bit more to develop in season. tomorrow's rain will tell whether the new car can deal with it or not, last year kimi complained that it felt like the car just couldnt get the tyres to grip in the rain.

top 3 teams are very very close in race sim, so quali will make the biggest difference imo

It will be fine since one red bull will be starting from the back anyway. So the worst we could do is 5th in quali

Hamilton whinning already about ferraris strait line speed and how he can not afford to be distracred with what ferrari are doing well lewis to late you already have been.watch the red rocket blast past you then the conspiracy theories will start on the ferrari engine and the crying and moaning if it does not go his way.Merc paid a fortune for a cry baby.

Mercs still has one lap pace edge, not mighty. But it’s still enough to lock front row.
Their idea would be quali ahead of Ferrari n manage tyre deg or control race.
Also their update of 2nd spec upgraded engine gave them good boost. Due to that update they are locking front row pretty consistently.

Ferrari need to find that little more to jump mercs & get a good lead.

Singapore is vettel track, even with that 2015 & 2017 cars he pulled stunning pole laps. Hopefully this year too, he will produce the same.

    "THE CAR IS WORKING WELL”
    ferrari-media
Seb and Kimi comment on a ‘normal hot Friday’

Hockenheim, July 20th – This region of Germany is not new to heatwaves, and today temperatures ranged just below and above the 30-degrees mark. In these hot conditions, Scuderia Ferrari drivers managed to progress through the respective run plans, which included using only the Soft tyre in the morning, before switching to different programmes for P2. Both ran on the Ultrasofts before Seb (4th fastest) tried a race simulation on the Mediums, while Kimi (5th) fitted the Softs. The SF71H car responded well through both sessions and now the night will be spent looking for improvements in view of tomorrow’s P3 and qualifying, which may be affected by a different kind of weather.

“The car has been working well today and it’s been a normal Friday”, was Seb’s comment after P2.” Today, we tried a little bit of everything. I think we got along quite well with the tyre selection that we used today. Now we have to find out how we’ve been working compared to the others, but I think that even if we can still improve our lap time, the car is fine. I think the high temperatures we had today could probably have an impact somehow, but we don’t know exactly what the weather will be like. Tomorrow it should rain, but on Sunday we expect it to be dry again. It was very nice to see a lot of Ferrari flags here today and it’s great to see a lot of people supporting us!”

“Friday is the only day that we can use as a test”, Kimi said “trying a lot of things and different solutions. It was a very normal day and later this evening we‘ll analyze what we have learned today and put things together for qualifying. Tomorrow the conditions might be a bit different from today and a bit more tricky. On Sunday if the weather stays warm like it was today, for sure it will be challenging for the tires; it’s going to be more similar to Austria, with a limit on the tyres, and whoever makes the best job in managing them is going to have some advantage. So far we have been reasonably strong in most places, we’ll see how it goes here; it looks pretty close”.

The package wasn't necessarily a dud it was likely purely being tested as a high downforce package for correlation ahead of the high downforce tracks in Hungary and Singapore and won't be needed again this weekend.

Exactly! Additionally, Ferrari has the highest speed in almost every sector of the track - so could indicate lower downforce than the others? Every opportunity to dial in a tiiiny bit more downforce to balance the first and last sectors with the second. So, as usual, stop freaking out. We were within 3 tenths on a Friday - we are usually a bit further back on Friday and still turn up for the rest of the weekend. (This is directed at mwk360, not you - ss-89)

Have the new parts fitted to the engine made the difference?

Is it normal for rivals in F1 to know how other team gain performance or is it something leaked by the FIA about ferrari engine perfromance

You're not doing too well with your predictions. And because of that I see you're copping a lot of stick from some of the "good winners" around here.
I don't think I've agreed with just about any of your speculation, but I don't mind reading them at all.
AFAIC you can keep up your guesses. I enjoy reading them and the odds are you'll get something right some time

If the team bolted on a big upgrade, which it seems they have done, and it was competitive fast out of the box then that is dam impressive IMO. It means their hypothesis was pretty good. It also could mean there is more improvement to come. Fingers crossed anyway.

Guess we aren't allowed to celebrate winning at a track which was dominated by one team for the past 4 years. Cool story Lewis.
Too bad Vettel had a bottle of champagne on top of the podium at Silverstone. Would have been better if he had a bottle of salt so he can rub it on Lewis for being such a sore loser.

Chinmay can't even get his facts right with regards to races that have concluded already. How do you expect him to give an accurate prediction on future events?!

    Reports Hamilton is ill

'11:13 Mercedes refuting Sky's earlier suggestion that Hamilton is unwell. "He is not ill. And he will be driving in FP3 if we go out in these conditions," says a spokesman for the team.'

I think rain will stop for quali but track will still be wet. Fp3 is usually where ferrai dial in their setup so nk running could be bad for us.
