easier said then done mate.....both teams have introduced their spec 3 engine for this race along with some other aero bits that we may know or NOT about....so it's gonna be interesting where our team stacks up against teh Merc....hopefully we'll come out on top in quali and nail that front row with a 1-2
So 2023 started off bad, but managed to claw back some lap time come end of the year. Lets hope SF24 will give us tifosi something to smile about.

    per the drivers:

Vettel cautious about the new power unit: "We are confident, but we will know more after Monza"

Raikkonen not expecting ‘night and day’ difference from Ferrari engine upgrade. "The new power unit gives different sensations, we work to improve"

Vettel, best on long runs, as per motorsport.it
    (https://it.motorsport.com/f1/news/fe...163933/?nrt=54)

10 consecutive laps on Mediums in lower 1:48's

Hamilton, 1 sec slower, on average, and not having consistent lap times

RAI with the longest run on SS (with some blistering at the end of the stint, if I understand correctly the article)

I have my fingers crossed for a Vettel win, I think if goldenboy wins again it's going to be almost impossible to make up the points.
a Ferrari 1-2 would be pretty much perfect please!

    GOING THE RIGHT WAY”

Kimi and Seb pleased with first day back in the car

Spa-Francorchamps, August 24 – The first day of practice after the mandatory summer break went smoothly for Scuderia Ferrari and its drivers. Both Kimi and Seb topped the time sheets in P2 and P1 respectively and the two SF71Hs, on which several new Power Unit components had been fitted, went through a full program of aero comparison, set-up changes and tyre evaluation on both fast laps and long runs.

Kimi: “That was our first day of practice after the break; we did our pretty usual job to get a feeling for the car once again. I enjoy driving on this track, it has a good flow and this generation of cars are pretty nice to drive here. I think Spa is a great circuit, but obviously this doesn’t make you faster or slower! We always say that Friday is Friday and times don’t really matter today; it was ok, but for sure we still have some work ahead of us. Tomorrow we’ll try to do our best and see where we end up. We expected some rain today but it did not come. But the weather can still be a key point this weekend, as it changes very quickly here”.

Seb: “Overall, I think it’s going the right way. Today it was a bit difficult to figure out where we are and I think we’ll have to wait for tomorrow to have a better idea. The new engine has done what it was supposed to do. Today everything was working well. Now we’ll see about tomorrow: rain shouldn’t give us any more problems and, should we have wet conditions, it would be quite nice to have confirmation that we found the right things to do. On this track everything seems to happen faster, so it should be a lot of fun and if we have dry conditions tomorrow for qualifying, we should be ok.
There are still some special tracks on the calendar and for sure this one in Spa is very exciting in terms of cornering speeds. We still need to do some work, but we have time to do it”.

Hopefully, they're talking about how Red Bull can help us and get in the way of the Mercs. You know Red Bull is just as sick of the Mercs. The enemy of my enemy...

Taking a wild guess, they're talking about the 2021 engines rules getting pushed back to 2023. Horner is not a proponent of the current hybrid formula and would like to go back to an NA formula....possibly with KERS. He (Horner) also see's so many things wrong with F1-->Dieter Mateschitz (50% owner of RedBull) wants to pull out of F1 if things don't change...especially in the formula dept. Arrivabenne, along with Mercedes and Renault, is trying to convince RedBull otherwise.

Another wild guess, Seb trade for Max for 2020. Max to Ferrari and Seb back to RedBull.

You might very well be right about the motor formula discussions, F1 cant afford to lose RBR so maybe they use Ferrari to try to convince them. As for the Max-Seb trade, thats a nonsense, Max is not better than Seb in any aspect but comes with a big-headed, impulsive, spoiled brat mentality. Not what we need.

Why do fans hold a drivers personality over his driving ability? It seems a F1 fan watches a race, a win or a podium is no big deal, it's what they say of track , how they dress, where and with who they hang out. To some fans big headed means being proud of a win or a pole, a podium, and saying it. Spoiled brat mentality should stand for a driver who needs a #2 team orders driver. Using impulse to get a podium or a win is to be commended. That's what makes a F1 driver a top candidate for a win. With regards to Max, winning , podiums or 4th only behind Merc and Ferrari with his bomb of a car isn't bad. Just imagine him in Seb's car!

    Max is 6th behind 2 Ferrari's, 2 Mercs's and a RBR. Yes, commendable....

drizzle/rain starting to fall a bit
hockenheim 2018 / China 2018 : Never forget how quick Ferrari can lose it all, be humble.
Positivity doesn't win you championships, whining about people being negative makes you blind!

seb said they worked a little on the wet conditions for his ferrari and it'd be nice to test if it worked out or not, that pleb charlie probably wont give any extra sets to teams so most teams wont run much at all in fp3 if drizzle/rain continues

Easy to pass here at Spa. By the 10th lap he should be in 6th place. Don't know why wr haven't changed all on Kimi's car, might have been the best solution as he will take a penalty as some point, might as well have it here

@IulianFerrari: I feel that if bottas haven’t taken penalty for this race, ferrari would have considered change of parts on kimi’s car. As bottas took penalty, they gave a thought abt it n took back.

I think at Monza, they might plan accordingly.

User power-units after Friday's practices - 11 drivers with new ICE (Bot, Ham, Hul, Oco, Per, Rai, Sai, Sir, Str, Van and Vet ) Bottas & Hulkeberg will start from the back of the grid due to the penalties.

it's amazing how much load each tire takes during a high speed run. Even more hear at Eau Rouge (negative g's) then transfers to positive g's at Raidillion plus the lateral load.....all happening at once.

There should be penalty for bottas as Van was on FL.
They gave same for vet against Sainz.

Both at fault really. Bottas admitted he did'nt see him and Vandoorne chose the wrong line even though Vandoorne was carrying more speed.

Of course. ...!! But if stewards doesn’t give penalty for this, then vet’s penalty is harsh.
On both occasions drivers didn’t knew who’s at the other end. But difference is Van crash would have been pretty heavy & out of quali. Where as Sainz didn’t loose anything.

It's looking good and I even think it would have looked the same in wet conditions as this circuits is forgiving in that regard as it's still a power circuit, in all conditions. I just wonder how they plan to manage the SS tyre. Since Seb tried the mediums yesterday he might go for a one-stopper. Question is if it's possible to go on a one-stopper using only the SS and S. I wonder what they will do in Q2 to then start the race on.

Also, it should be a no-brainer for Merc to use Bottas and give Lewis a tow in Q3 as Bottas will still start at the back. No matter where he starts he will at least manage to finish 4th in a normal race anyway. If Merc do that then Lewis' chance at the front row obviously increases.

If that’s the way, ferrari should gamble with kimi first q3 lap while vettel on warm up lap so that vettel can give kimi a tow. Then replicate the same when vettel on q3 1st lap, where kimi would be on in-lap.

As slip-stream or tow is giving atleast .2ths of gain
