At this crucial point in the season I think it will be a great point in time to look back on at the end of the year and see what we and the other teams did to finish off the season based on the positions we put ourselves in up to this point.
Regardless of the outcome this year, it will be a season of learning for driver and the team in this modern era of racing.
Driver: Do your maximum but plan and manage risk. You want to win every race, but if you want to win the championship you need to manage your risk. Our modern understanding of a great racer is one who focus' on the big picture and doesn't give in to pressure in the moment. Seb is a great racer, we all know that. Some of the passes he has done over the years have been brilliant and are always exciting.. When he is coming up behind a car and you know a battle is about to ensue you know it will be "on the edge of your seat" entertaining. But sometimes the risk is not worth it unfortunately, and we can't fault him for giving it a go, that is Seb. But hopefully he will understand he can still go for these just not every single time, if he wants to win another championship during a competitive season anyways.
Team: A clear number 1 driver sooner in the season should have been part of the driver's contracts from day 1. Fighting your teammate when your car is NOT 2 seconds a lap faster than the others is the best way to give other teams a chance at beating you. This has put pressure on the drivers and what they are capable of.
Poor strategy calls are a clear indication of not knowing your true capabilities.
"Head down, stay calm".. you can say it all you want but so far our team and driver are focused on not being calm: Singapore practice, Italy practice, Belgium quali, etc. were not calm moments for the team
Hopefully we can start NOW on implementing new visions on how we go forward in this sport as a team which will make us a stronger and more unified not just for this season but rolling into next year and the future.
A little bit of luck would help too, and regardless of what has happened to now I am still very excited for this weekend. I will never lose hope in our team, can't wait for the next win, I will be waving our flag.
Forza Ferrari
