Great comments; and very true. I hope fans can realize an occasional "Skull Butt" by a driver to one of these news folks is in order!! I believe that any driver after a F-1 race that didn't win the race needs time to chill out. True they get paid but racing and winning or at least a podium finish is first and foremost. They already know why they finished where they did. It can't be any fun explaining. The driver blaming the team or the team blaming a driver can't be too helpful back in the barracks.

Sky Italy reports that Mercedes organizing private tests for driver Nikita Mazepin, where he will drive with the 2017 Merc car are not liked by other teams because Merc could still test new mechanical solutions/PU and possibly gain important data for this year.

Ferrari plans to run the new car during a filming day on Sunday (Feb. 17) at Barcelona - right before official testing begins. Haas has booked the track on Friday. There will also be some running on the day in between by another team. Don't know which though.

Ferrari and Philip Morris could be heading for trouble in Australia due to "tobacco" advertising. I'm sure the lawyers(PM) did their homework with regards to what is deemed "tobacco" products.

Philip Morris unfazed by Ferrari sponsorship investigation in Australia

Ferrari sponsor Philip Morris International is adamant its Mission Winnow initiative fully complies with tobacco advertising laws, despite an investigation being launched in Australia over the matter.

Mission Winnow's sponsorship of Ferrari was launched at last year's Japanese Grand Prix, and represents a new scientific and technological push from Philip Morris in a bid to move its business away from reliance on tobacco products that had been made famous through its Marlboro brand.

But the shape of the logo has prompted accusations that it is similar to Marlboro's white-and-red chevron.

Australian media reported earlier this week that Australia's Department of Health and Victoria's Department of Health and Human Services were looking in to whether the Ferrari backing was in breach of tobacco advertising bans.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority has also launched a separate investigation, after local television stations broadcast the 2018 Japanese Grand Prix with Mission Winnow on Ferrari's cars.

Philip Morris International Director of Global Communication Tommaso di Giovanni has told Autosport that he is confident his company fully complies with tobacco advertising laws - and says it is discussing the matter with Australian GP chiefs.

"The initiative and the symbols and logos used on the livery of the Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow and the website comply with the laws that apply to our activities in Australia and the State of Victoria," said di Giovanni.

He added: "We are aware of the debate on Mission Winnow in Australia and we are working with the organisers of the local grand prix to understand the concerns of the authorities and give them an answer.

"Mission Winnow does not advertise or promote our company's products or product brands. Rather, it is designed to talk about our commitment to improving ourselves in everything we do.

"Mission Winnow is a window to the new Philip Morris International and our partners, to our commitment and the stimuli that drive us to improve and evolve. And to contribute to the progress of society."

Not everyone is so happy with the Mission Winnow situation, and Melbourne surgeon and anti-smoking campaigner John Cunningham, who complained about the new branding to authorities, told The Age that he was clear about what was behind the situation.

"This website actually makes it much clearer what they are trying to achieve, and what sort of business they are in," Dr Cunningham said.

"It has nothing to do with F1 cars, that's for sure.

"Tobacco companies are finally admitting that their only means of financial survival is to get people addicted to nicotine, and they're going to pour money into researching how to do that most effectively — not for the benefit of their addicted customers, but for the benefit of their profits and shareholders."

Verstappen serves remainder of Interlagos punishment

Red Bull F1 driver Max Verstappen completed his Brazilian Grand Prix penalty by attending the FIA International Stewards Programme in Geneva on Saturday.

The programme has been running annually since 2017 and enables stewards from across various motorsport disciplines to gather and share their experiences.

Verstappen was handed a two-day public service penalty after shoving Esteban Ocon in parc ferme at Interlagos last year, which came in the wake of Verstappen being punted out of the lead by the lapped Ocon.

The Dutch driver carried out the first day of his sanction at last month’s Marrakesh Formula E round in January, observing the panel of stewards, which included ex-F1 racer Vitantonio Liuzzi.

Verstappen participated in a number of interactive case study sessions in Geneva, joining the competitors’ panel discussion alongside three-time World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx, M-Sport boss Richard Millener and BMW motorsport chief Jens Marquardt.

The case studies involved considering an incident, deliberating with stewards, and deciding an appropriate course of action.

“We are doing our job on the track, trying to get the best out of the race, and it’s clear that the stewards are doing their job to find the best way to reach a fair decision,” Verstappen said.

“It’s been a good lesson for me and I’ve learned a lot, both in my day in Marrakesh, which I really enjoyed and which gave me a good understanding of the stewards, and now here – I think it’s also good to be a part of this event.”

Over 200 representatives participated in seminars throughout the course of the three-day event.

    [AutoBild] Ferrari update

Ferrari have changed Mattia Binotto‘s profile on their official page

"Managing Director Gestione Sportiva and Team Principal"

(previously it was only written Team Principal)

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DzCyI_zXgAAkjz2.jpg

    also

According to a report from Automoto:

"Vettel’s team (excluding the engine engineers) have been assigned to Leclerc, while the people who worked with Kimi, are working with Vettel now."

Automoto also reports details of the new Ferrari car. During the crash test, Jo Bauer (FIA) was there, because for the first time Ferrari used materials other than the usual carbon. In fact the details were printed in 3D using something new for F1.

"This is a big step forward, a technical revolution that is invisible in Ferrari‘s work but very important. It could mean that during a GP weekend, if it shows that a piece needs some modifications or they have to make it new, it could even be created directly on the track!"

Now Mclaren and BAT join in the "tobacco" advertising campaign. Melbourne will be sratching their heads.

McLaren Racing announces a multi-yeal a global partnership with British American Tobacco (BAT), focused solely on BAT’s potentially reduced risk products and grounded in technology and innovation.

The multi-year partnership is centred on accelerating BAT’s transforming agenda, leveraging its portfolio of potentially reduced risk products, aiming to deliver the world’s tobacco and nicotine consumers a better tomorrow.

Honda promises identical engines for Red Bull and Toro Rosso

The technical director of Honda in Formula 1, Toyoharu Tanabe, confirms that they will supply Red Bull and Toro Rosso with the same engine specifications for the 2019 season, so he discards using the Faenza team as 'guinea pig'.

The Sakura brand will be the official supplier of two teams in the coming season. This is the first time this has happened since they decided to return to the premier category of motorsport at the hands of McLaren, back in 2015.

They will be two teams 'brothers', and logic suggests that the Japanese could use Toro Rosso as a test bed to try to hit the key, but Tanabe rejects the idea and prefers to give both the same weapons.

"Yes, we will, it is the most logical method and the one that Honda considers to be the best, without mentioning that the regulations establish that we must supply all the equipment equally," comments Tanabe, in statements collected by the F1Today.net media. .

"But it's not just a case of supplying both teams with the same technical hardware, we'll also treat them equally in terms of the resources we allocate to manage our operations and on the development side . Two teams are part of the same family, "he adds.

Regarding the objectives with a view to the new season, from Honda no fixed goals are set, although they do want to improve the results obtained last year with the Italian team.

"Our goal is to achieve better results for both teams in 2018. For our partnership with Toro Rosso, that means finishing higher in the constructors' championship, scoring more points, being more reliable and maybe even repeating Bahrain's result of the year. past or doing better. "

"However, at this stage we can not know what to expect, because as in all sports, our result also depends on what our opponents can do," Tanabe concludes.

Wolf saying new rules benefits rivals. I don't trust a word he says, actually I have a method, I always hear what he has to say and assume it's the other way around, hasn't failed yet.

‘2019 changes designed to stop Mercedes’
    Date published: February 12 2019

2019 changes an attempt to halt Mercedes' progress says Toto Wolff.
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff claims the “embarrassing” changes to the 2019 cars are a deliberate attempt to stop the Silver Arrows.

After returning to Formula 1 as a manufacturer in 2010, the team’s dominance began in 2014 with the German outfit collecting every Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship on offer.

2019 will see the mandatory introduction of aerodynamic alterations to the front and rear wing, and Wolff believes this ultimately is a ploy to halt Mercedes’ progress.

Speaking to Motorsport-Total.com, Wolff said: “The air is becoming thinner. When a team dominates, the rules are always changed to damage this team. It can be called almost embarrassing.

“With the aerodynamic rule change for 2019, they try to change the ranking in Formula 1. We have seen this in the past with Ferrari and of course with Red Bull. We must remain motivated and set the right goals.”

Ferrari’s title challenge fell away for the second consecutive season in 2018, allowing Lewis Hamilton to claim the Drivers’ Championship, while Mercedes comfortably retained the Constructors’ Championship.

But, Wolff believes that Ferrari and Red Bull will bring the fight to Mercedes in 2019, and that their perfect record in the turbo-hybrid era is in major jeopardy.

“Our task becomes more difficult every year,” he explained.

“We set a benchmark, but this motivates our opponents.

“We have to acknowledge how strong the competition is and recognize that we could lose the World Championship this year.”

    Some pretty good stuff!!!

    From Motorsport Italia.

The Cavallino power unit will have solutions that will grow a 6 cylinder that will adopt interesting innovative ideas. The engine 1 could be born with the steel pistons, while later the head will arrive in additive production.
Corrado Iotti, head of the motorists, and Guido di Paola, head designer, have developed the engine that will be signed 064. Ferrari this year will have a series of wilds to play in the evolution of the three specifications granted by the FIA regulation.
In fact, on the engine 1, steel pistons could finally appear and have completed the long run-in phase that began last year. The solution costs in terms of weight (almost a kilo!) But ensures an extraordinary life to a 6-cylinder that will have to live 7 GP ensuring a performance in the room significantly higher than last year's version, also able to withstand the greater stress that will have in the combustion chamber thanks to the increased availability of fuel (110 kg against 105 kg in 2018).
The goal will be to increase the pressure in the room, using a map that degreases the fuel air mixture in search of performance, without having to deal with the dangerous detonations.
These pistons, in fact, should allow the use of a Shell gasoline more ... thrust, now that the control of the oil as a fuel additive by the FIA commissioners will be even more stringent than in the past, especially in qualifying.
At Ferrari, at least for now, they have not deliberated on the new warhead created with additive production systems that use metal powder to build components directly from the CAD file thanks to bed-fusion technology.
Thanks to this innovative technique it is possible to create parts that have increasingly complex geometries and very thin walls that could hardly be obtained with more traditional methods. This solution will be one of the cards to play during the season.
But if the heads are still traditional without recourse to the new aluminum alloys, we can anticipate that the complex group of the exhausts with the three vertical elements were made with the highly sophisticated "3D printers" of the AM Renishaw.
In addition to ensuring a more extreme design, functional to the recovery of energy of the turbo, the technicians of the Cavallino have managed to save weight ...
    FERRARI FOR EVER !!!!!!!

Williams cancels plans for early shakedown with new car

Williams has abandoned plans to give its 2019 Formula 1 car a shakedown in Spain this weekend, because it is running late with its build plans.

The Grove-based outfit had been scheduled to use up one of its filming days to give its new FW42 a short run before the start of pre-season testing at Barcelona on Monday.

But with the outfit running behind its original schedule, it has elected to scrap the shakedown run so it can ensure it is fully ready for proper testing.

Deputy team principal Claire Williams said: "As anyone would expect, we have had an extremely aggressive engineering programme over the winter.

"As such, we have taken the decision not to run our car during our filming day this weekend in order to allow the team to maximise the time at the factory before we head to Barcelona for the first day of the test on February 18."

Williams is not the only team whose car build schedule is running late, with Renault admitting on Tuesday that it could also be forced to abandon a shakedown it hoped to do in Spain on Saturday.

Renault F1 managing director Cyril Abiteboul said: "Sometimes we are vocal about the late change of regulation and this is the harsh reality of that late change of regulations. I believe that we are not the only team to be in that situation."

I'm mildly amused by this, because my Arai karting helmet has some adhesive that gave up under the rubber strip that goes along the perimeter of the helmet after just a handful of uses. I haven't gorilla glued it yet.

Forget about Seb schooling Charles to be a winner. Charles needs to meet with Max and learn from him how he managed to take over the #1 spot and get Dan the #1 driver to quit the team. Points are all that counts for the team WCC and throw in WDC for the driver. I only hope Charles was put in that Ferrari seat for his driving and not for his polite obedience .
