Honda respond to claims of partner split

Honda have issued a statement saying there has been a “misunderstanding” over a reported split with a technical partner.

Auto Bild recently reported that Red Bull’s motorsport advisor, Dr Helmut Marko, was also quoted by the German publication saying that the situation has been “resolved”.

However, Honda have said that the resolution has played out differently to what was initially reported and did not end their contract with AVL because there was not even a deal in place.

“It is not a fact that we cancelled our partner contract with AVL because we have not signed a partner agreement with AVL in the first place,” a Honda spokesperson told Auto Sport Web.

“It is true that Honda was talking to work together with AVL, but there is a gap between what Honda is seeking and what they can do and we have not concluded.

“There must have been a misunderstanding.”

The buzz around Red Bull-Honda continues to build after Marko also recently revealed that the Japanese manufacturers will be giving Red Bull a ‘party mode’ to play with in Q3 sessions.

front view. Y250 vortex looks less pronounced in 2019 vs 2018.

rear view. Don't know how far back this is. Rear diffuser looks minimal in 2019 vs. 2018. IMO, this just looks like a repeat of what to expect with the outwash from the lead car.

Pat Symonds says overtaking in F1 "would only have got worse" without rule changes being made for 2019, but he has warned fans not to expect a "transformational" effect this season.

R Bull was in category B compared with Merc and Ferrari, with Renault's 2018 engine lacking as much as 70 HP ! They came in 2nd in points ; second 1/2 of the season anyway ! With Honda power @ R Bull; we fans can hope for a 3 team fight to watch for this coming season. Hopefully no more Sunday drives up front for Lewis!

I think red bull using honda engines was a mistake for them and it will take 2 to 3 seasons for them to add to their reliability. We should be in good position as they wont bother us for points hopefully.

Toro rosso didn't collect any points in 11 races and ended up with 33 for the season so I'm really not sure where they will get the other 400 or so to challenge for the titles. If they make up that many points this season like I said before someone in the FIA helped them!! Because they have been real sure of them selves and now say they will have party mode!!! I think they will need to drag around a rubish bin to pick up all the bits of their exploded power unit

Mercedes sure are as they ran into some issues but it is said the new engine will have a +12bhp excluding the fact that this year teams will be able to run 5kg of fuel more = more aggressive maps.

From Ferrari's end all is silent so far but I have some HOT news:

We might see Mick Schumacher shaking down our cars during testing :)

    Thanks.
By this time every year we hear a lot rumours about our car, both good and bad. So far this year almost nothing. Let's hope it's for the best.

The article explains it pretty clear. They say that it will favor Mercedes and will increase the overall cost of the car. Wasn't the actual point of the rules to bunch up the field and reduce cost? Wonder what Brown was thinking.

As much as we would like to see him design a Red car for us he said many times that he wouldn't move to Italy. Being far from Maranello won't work :/ There have been previous attempts in the past to lure him to Ferrari and hefty cash offers too even during the Alonso / Ferrari era.

One thing I fear is if he joins the likes of Mercedes since they have nothing German besides Toto's accent and everything else made in Brackley... Matesich will surely top any cash offer to keep him tough.

Ferrari is planning to give its 2019 Formula 1 challenger its on-track debut the day before the start of pre-season testing.

Like last year, the Italian team intends to utilise one of its two permitted promotional events to shake down its car before the first of two tests at the Barcelona circuit.

Ferrari's 2019 car, known as the '670' internally, will be officially launched at the team's Maranello headquarters on February 15.

The plan is to run the car for the first time on-track two days later in Spain, before the first four-day test begins at the same circuit on February 18.

Should Ferrari face any delays to its planned promotional work on the morning of February 17, it is expected to postpone the filming day until after the first test is completed.

Teams are allowed to conduct two promotional events per season.

F1 regulations state that these days must take place "purely for marketing or promotional purposes", with a maximum of 100km of running and using special demonstration-specification Pirelli tyres.

However, they are also a useful way of checking for any teething problems or potential setbacks before the start of testing that would jeapordise crucial pre-season mileage.

IF the car under performs due to the Honda PU, Max, more than likely, will "out" his contract (performance clause) and Newey might be out end of 2019. If 2020 provides the same lack luster results, RedBull will probably throw in the towel end of 2020.

I wonder if this has to do with the battery system, which the FIA put in a second sensor and now knowing development went downhill (4 months of upgrades) in the 2nd half of the seaso, which Ferrari found more "ummmphfff."

“Autobild also found out that the 2019 Ferrari PU has improved. In particular, the driveability of the acceleration out of narrow corners has been improved. In addition SHELL has worked on a perfect fuel and oil mix” AutoBild has reported.

We'll see how "massive" this push is along with the fuel oil mix from SHELL.

As a famous F1 driver once said, "As the flag drops, the [explitive] stops."

The Vettel qualifying benchmark Leclerc must respond to

    https://in.motorsport.com/f1/news/ve...spond/4325188/

The first challenge for Leclerc is to match or beat Vettel in qualifying, the stats aren't too promising for Leclerc, even though he is good, it won't be easy to beat your teammate who is the king of qualifying.

I'm sure Vettel's quali record looked flattering when he was at Red Bull and when he had Webber as his teammate. And then he was paired with Ricciardo, you know...someone who wasn't 36+ years old and pretty much at the end of his career. I'm sure you know the rest.

And talking about stats, they aren't too promising for Vettel, especially against Hamilton. I don't think he can afford another crash-ridden 2018.

    [AMuS]

Monte Carlo considered changing the track layout (extending the lap length) recently using roads on reclaimed land. But FIA run-off area regulations & limited space made them abandon the plans. Apparently cars would have been too quick.

    [starting to hate the FIA]

The article actually takes account only for 2018 in which he was the best for both categories of data! He just needs to clean up the racing! But, he is at the top for quali skills.

The king of qualifying lost WDC to Lewis and most points 2nd half to Max, 2018. I would think 83 poles makes a driver "The King " of qualifying. I hope Ferrari let's Charles qualify and race without any holding him back. Both drivers together at their best is the only way Ferrari will do WCC.
