RISI COMPETIZIONE ANNOUNCES DRIVER LINE-UP FOR 2019 ROLEX 24 AT DAYTONA

Houston, Texas (January 3, 2019)...Today the Risi Competizione Ferrari Team announced its driver line-up for the 57th annual Rolex 24 At Daytona race, January 24-27, round one of the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.

Ferrari Competizione GT drivers Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado, David Rigon and Miguel Molina will return to the Ferrari 488 GTLM cockpit for the Houston, Texas-based team for the legendary endurance race held at the 3.56-mile Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Risi Competizione Ferrari driver, Davide Rigon

All four drivers have previously driven for the Risi Competizione team for the 24-hour Daytona classic. Seven-time Daytona 24-hour driver Rigon will make his fourth appearance with the Risi squad this year. The Italian's best finish to date was fifth place in the GTLM class last year with Risi.

Risi Competizione Ferrari driver, Alessandro Pier Guidi (L) with race engineer, Rick Mayer (R)

Italian Pier Guidi, a former FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) champion, was also part of the 2018 Risi team, his first appearance with the popular U.S. Ferrari GTLM team. Brit Calado, the FIA WEC champion with Pier Guidi in 2017, will be making his third of four Daytona runs with the Risi team, having competed in each of the past two seasons. Spaniard Molina, who completed a Michelin tire test with Risi Competizione last month will return for his second Daytona race with Risi.

"We have another pro line up for this year's Rolex 24," said Team Principal Giuseppe Risi. "All four of these drivers bring a deep knowledge of the Ferrari 488, along with endurance racing experience, and that's what you want at a challenging race like this. Davide and Miguel will handle the driving at the Test Days and Ale and James will join them for race week."

Risi Competizione will enter the Rolex 24 At Daytona for the 17th time since 1998 and three of the years saw two entries (2003, 2012 and 2018). The Ferrari team has recorded two runner-up spots, in 1999 with the Ferrari 333SP and in 2003 with the Ferrari 360GT. Calado, Toni Vilander and Giancarlo Fisichella took home third place honors in 2017 in the Ferrari 488.

Scuderia Corsa Readies for 2019 IMSA GTD Effort

Factory driver, Toni Vilander, to join Cooper MacNeil for the complete IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship season in N.63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari
Jeff Westphal and Dominik Farnbacher set to be endurance drivers for the Daytona 24 Hour.

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (January 6, 2018) – The dawn of a new IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship season rose over Daytona International Speedway this weekend at the Roar before the Daytona 24 Hour for Scuderia Corsa’s No. 63 Ferrari 488 GT3.

The full season pairing of Cooper MacNeil and Toni Vilander were joined at Daytona this weekend by endurance drivers Jeff Westphal and Dominik Farnbacher for the official test preceding Daytona 24H. The quartet completed a successful two-day test in preparation for the Daytona 24 Hour. The five practice sessions provided drivers with the opportunity to acclimate to the newly homologated Michelin Tires and optimize their driving time behind the wheel of the Ferrari 488 on the historic Daytona banking in the new compound.

For Scuderia Corsa 2018 Petit Le Mans winner and Ferrari Challenge Champion MacNeil the new year brings a fresh sense of optimism. The addition of new team members fuel his vigor for the battles that lay ahead.

“It’s a new year, a new season, there’s new crew members, I have a new co-driver, there are a lot of new faces,” MacNeil said. “It’s great to have Toni on board with us he has a lot of knowledge about the Ferrari 488. He’s obviously very well accomplished having won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a Ferrari and a championship in Pirelli World Challenge last year. He brings a lot of expertise and insight into Scuderia Corsa having driven with them before and we’re just feeling really positive.”

Ferrari Factory Driver Vilander seized the opportunity to further grow his relationship with Scuderia Corsa. Vilander previously competed in the 2014 Daytona 24 Hour with the team and returns to Daytona with plans to outperform his previous results.

“I have raced with Scuderia Corsa before so most of the guys I know really well,” Vilander said. “We had the test in December and now this week so I’m getting to know Cooper better. Ferrari in general is a brand I know really well so it’s great to be back. This team has had great achievements in the past so I believe they have the tools we need to do well this season. We are in the early part of the year but we have a good atmosphere and team, Scuderia Corsa together with WeatherTech, so I think we are in a good place to move forward.”

Giacomo Mattioli, Team Owner of Scuderia Corsa, always greatly anticipates the beginning of a new IMSA race season.

“We ended up last season on a high note with the win at PLM” stated Mattioli. “And we want to start where we left off. Every year the GTD competition grows and becomes more competitive, I’m sure 2019 will not be an exception. I would like to congratulate IMSA on their 50th anniversary, quite remarkable knowing how difficult this business is”

The inaugural race of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship season, the Daytona 24 Hour on Jan. 26-27 can be viewed live Jan. 26 on NBC from 1:00 pm to 5 pm ET. Coverage switches to NBC Sports from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The remainder of the race will air from 9:00 p.m. Jan. 26 to 3:00 pm of Jan. 27.

Thanks both of you for keeping us in the loop, sometimes the 488GTEs make up for a rubbish F1 result and the teams do a great job.

F1 too me know is nothing. Think last year i watched 3-4 races live, but wasnt paying attention to much to them. Not the same to me anymore. SKY F1 has not helped, and all the fanboy (football fans mentality) aswell. Plus, so exclusive still. Racing is not exciting to me either.

The guys in AF Corse, who are now good friends of mine have opened their arms and let me and my family into the AF Corse family. Love it. They work so hard, alot harder than the F1. Not taking anything away from those guys, but think about this, 95% of all Ferrari GT teams, run by AF Corse have all the same guys on the cars.

I can appreciate how you feel about F1 in comparison to WEC/Sportscar racing, Rob, and having a close relationship with participants will always make it more attractive, especially when they're winning. All media coverage of sporting events has become so commercial and pay-to-view is killing F1, there are so many issues with the sport that once again it's money that talks at the expense of the sport and its fans. But I will still watch F1 avidly as long as as it exists, even in its current state, but then I'm an old fogie!

THE VIA ITALIA RACING FERRARI TAKES POLE POSITION
    ferrari-media

Daytona, 24 January 2019 - A Ferrari will start from pole position in the GTD class for the third consecutive year. Marcos Gomes drove the 488 GT3 of Via Italia Racing into first place in the 24 Hours of Daytona qualifying. Andrea Bertolini, Francisco Longo and Victor Franzoni will join him for the race. Gomes’ time of 1:45.257 is also a new Daytona track record. The 488 GTE of Risi Competizione took fourth in the GTLM class with Davide Rigon who will share the car in the race with Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Miguel Molina.

GTD. Qualifying in the GTD class started slowly, but by the third lap the cars had already started to improve their performance. Cooper MacNeil, with the 488 GT3 of Scuderia Corsa, was the first to clock a decent time in 1:48.470, although this was soon beaten by a number of rivals including Mathias Lauda, who lapped in 1:46.131. Marcos Gomes secured the lead with a time of 1:45.712. The last few minutes were thrilling, with excellent times also recorded by Mercedes, Acura and Lamborghini. However, in the end Gomes went on all out on the attack, clinching first place for the 488 GT3 of Via Italia Racing with a new track record of 1:45.257. Ben Keating’s Mercedes finished in second, followed by the Acura of Trent Hindman. The other 488s were placed as follows: Spirit of Race no. 51 was sixth with Mathias Lauda (1:45.852), who will be driving in the race with Paul Dalla Lana, Pedro Lamy and Daniel Serra; 16th place went to the 488 GT3 no. 63 of Scuderia Corsa qualified by Cooper MacNeil and also driven by Toni Vilander, Jeff Westphal and Dominik Farnbacher.

GTLM. In the GTLM class, Davide Rigon took the wheel of the Ferrari 488 GTE of Risi Competizione. He was up among the leaders from the start, holding second for a long time. In the end the Italian driver improved his time to 1:42.712, which was enough for a place on the second row with the fourth best time. Nick Tandy’s Porsche took pole position in 1:42.257. In the race Rigon will share the cockpit of the 488 GTE no. 62 with the world champions Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado and Spanish official Ferrari driver Miguel Molina. Overall pole went to Oliver Jarvis with the Mazda in 1:33.685. The race gets underway on Saturday at 2.35 pm local time (8.25 pm CET).
