i suspect that the 1.5 slower this year stated is crap. teams might have recovered it already. If a toro rosso with honda can do 1:17.7 mercs and ferrari can do much much better.

HAAS stopped again :(
I reckon TR did that glory run to squash rumours about the Honda PU having vibrations at high power.

Another good day? I read that SV drove "only" 134 laps today...
So, another good and solid day for Ferrari regarding mileage and reliability. Apparently the simulated long-runs looked competitive. I also read that Seb sometimes tried to be close behind another car. Probably wanting to test the cooling in dirty air.
Kvyat and Kimi broke into the 1:17's on the C5 compound. Looks like a low 1:17 is then possible in these temperatures and on the softest compound. Last year it was much colder during both tests and I don't think anyone actually tried the softest compound. With that in mind the 2019 cars are probably between 0.7-0.9 second slower than last year. It will also vary at every circuit depending on the layout but I guess we saw the pinnacle of F1 last year in terms of perfromance around circuits like Spa and Monza.

Positivity doesn't win you championships, whining about people being negative makes you blind!
lol ignore the bitter old cows ;-)
Mercs were using proto tyres?? they were very consistent on them today, hopefully we dont swap tyre compounds like last years "merc" tyres at certain tracks

Positive impression confirmed. Here is what Sebastian said at the end of the day: “It was good to be back in the car today and put some more mileage under my belt. Again, we had a busy day and managed to complete our programme, which included a few new items, compared to Monday. We tried a few things around also focusing on set-up and I can only confirm the positive impression I had on day one. Having now put 303 laps in the bag I feel comfortable to say we are satisfied with how the car is progressing.”
FERRARI FOR EVER !!!!!!!
Was abit suspicious that Seb and Ferrari hardly did any laps in the last 1hour and a half of the test session, they did 1 or 2 installation laps continuously and frequently shutting off any views from looking inside, so could be something little concerining, they said they finished early, but i thought that just sounded weird that he wouldnt do practice starts or do more laps, having entire 1 and a half hour free track time

Mattia Binotto warns his Ferrari team and fans (regarding Mercedes being behind): "Mercedes is good at solving problems. If they're behind, they'll catch up quickly."

Mercedes relinquishes its role of favorite to Ferrari. For the first time, the defending champion admits that his new car is too slow. It is assumed that at least half a second is missing, but possibly more.
20.02.2019MICHAEL SCHMIDT
After three days of testing in Barcelona, the alarm at Mercedes is official. Until now, one had to rely on the body language of the participants in the interpretation of the lap times and the balance of power between Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull or you had to read the answers between the lines. Meanwhile, team boss Toto Wolff admits officially that Ferrari has a faster car. Then he and his technical director James Allison packed the bags and started the journey home. In Brackley and Brixworth the lights will not go out in the next few days.
The official language in the team pushes Ferrari the clear role of favorites: "The picture is slowly building. Ferrari is faster on a lap, more consistent and incredibly reliable. That presents us with a great challenge. We have to fight back. That alone will keep the motivation in the team high. "The new Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto warns:" Mercedes is good at solving problems. If they're behind, they'll catch up quickly. "
Compared to Red Bull one believes oneself in the camp of the series world champion on eye level. Red Bull sees that differently. "We are ahead of Mercedes, and the times of Ferrari do not cause much concern," said Motorsport Director Helmut Marko.
Mercedes prepares Aero package
The gap to Ferrari is currently difficult to quantify. In any case, half a second, but possibly more. "It's hard to read the lap times because everyone seems to be driving a different program this year," the engineers explain. They also say that the distance to a lap is greater than the lap. Right now Ferrari wins everywhere. On the straight and in the curves.
On the track, the Ferrari already visually makes a better figure. "The Mercedes row in the curves more rum than the Ferrari," said Nico Hulkenberg. But even on the straight Ferrari drives away the silver arrows. Whether this is the lower air resistance or a more powerful engine, still needs to be analyzed. Ferrari should have significantly increased the engine over the winter. And the engineering department in Maranello persistently continued its philosophy of the previous year. Efficiency is the key.
At Mercedes, the hopes are now focused on a large aerodynamic package, which should come to the car in the second week of testing. The defending champion expects that even Ferrari ignites a second stage. And Helmut Marko promises: "The car you see here is not the car that will drive in Melbourne."
[Autosport] Kvyat says he didn't have to go "balls out" or turn the engine up to put Toro Rosso-Honda on top of today's (3rd day) F1 test times.
[soymotor] Horner: "El motor Honda es un cohete" (translated--> Horner: "The Honda engine is a rocket")
[AMuS] Mattia Binotto warns his Ferrari team and fans (regarding Mercedes being behind): "Mercedes is good at solving problems. If they're behind, they'll catch up quickly."
[AMuS] Mercedes‘s gap to Ferrari (Ferrari being ahead) is currently difficult to estimate. In any case, 0.5s but possibly even more. Mercedes engineer: "It's hard to read the lap times because everyone seems to be driving a different program this year."
[AMuS] Mercedes‘s engineers also say that the gap to Ferrari is bigger in one lap than in the longrun. At the moment Ferrari wins everywhere against the Mercedes. On the straights and in corners.
[AMuS] But even on the straight Ferrari is ahead of the Mercedes. Whether this down due to the lower air resistance or a more powerful engine still needs to be analyzed. It is said that over the winter, Ferrari significantly improved their engine.
[AMuS] At Mercedes all their hopes are now focused on the big aerodynamic package, which should be introduced next week. Mercedes expects Ferrari to introduce their 2nd step of development next week too
[AMuS] Helmut Marko also promises: "The car you see here, will not be the one driving at Melbourne."
