    Nostalgia F1: On This Day...

I've noticed in this period of lock-down, there's been quite a few "on this day" posts by various websites and blogs; for example on this day in 2004 Arsenal won the league at White Hart Lane. So it got me thinking what happened today in Ferrari F1 history , or just F1 if you like.

I looked and the first item I found for today was the 1982 San Marino GP. I wasn't even born at the time but was wondering what were other member's memories or feelings at the time?

Today is Felipe Massa's birthday ! 11 wins, 15 poles with Ferrari! A bad injury to the head couldn't stop him from a comeback! A true Ferrari great.

Much as I agree with you, Brembo, I think you're on the wrong thread! And 2nd/3rd for MS and Irvine at Imola on this day in 1998 wouldn't have gone down well with the tifosi, or us!

The best part of that 'on this day' theme was a Ferrari 1-2 in Spain in 2008, with Kimi and Felipe. Haven't had a 1-2 for far too long.

For me, I remember it being that McLaren had to use everything they had to try and beat Schumacher in the Ferrari but they pushed the Mercedes engine just a bit too much that race. Going from memory alone the MM still had the best engine at the time. (You may of course prove me wrong on that!)

Shocking weekend, and only Jules since then, so sad but Charles will continue to race in his honour.

The next GP after Jarama was Zolder, where Tyrrell had P34s for both Depailler and Scheckter. Depailler qualified P4, Scheckter P7. Depailler DNF'd again but Scheckter finished 4th. Note the smaller & more conventional airbox profile.

The next GP after Zolder was Monaco. The Ferrari 312T2s of Lauda & Regazzoni locked out the front row. Lauda won. Rega shunted. But the P34s were the best of the rest, finishing 2nd (Scheckter) & 3rd (Depailler). Note another new airbox treatment: none at all.

The next GP after Monaco was Anderstorp, where Scheckter & Depailler finished a magnificent 1st & 2nd, 12 wheels of Tyrrell P34 domination beating all comers on the quirky Swedish circuit, the first & only GP won by a 6-wheeled #F1 car. Again the cars wore no airboxes.

That's a drought without a win at a track you want to be seen successful at.

Oh yeah I quite agree! I meant it's the race where all the rich and famous go and you'd want to win at especially in the more glamorous era of F1.
