Carlos in the car getting ready to come out. Under 2h after the issue during the last session, I think that indicates that it wasn't a full PU write off.

Getting pretty obvious that Mercedes writes the rules, gives them to the FIA and makes sure no one else can catch up or innovate themselves (frozen engines, tokens, DAS etc.)

Toto has his hands and assets everywhere, Williams, Aston Martin, Mercedes...he is a very smart man.

You are allowed loads of bits on the floor upto 5cm in height just cannot have slots in the floor.

So 2023 started off bad, but managed to claw back some lap time come end of the year. Lets hope SF24 will give us tifosi something to smile about.

I think the rules said no slots/cuts.

It's just not the part of testing where you flex. During the first day, they mostly test for some constant speed laps (for being under the safety car), letting the driver get the feel of the car and some amount of setup flexibility. Since the engines aren't being pushed to their limit and ideal setups haven't been found yet, it'll seem like sandbagging anyway. What I find interesting is, Ferrari already has gained 2-3 km/h DESPITE all those conditions.

No, but i think it's a good indication, when especially factoring that he was on the hard tire as well. And what even more telling "engine wise" is that on main straight he was toutching 312 kph WITHOUT DRS.

Don't you just love it! I certainly do. Let's not forget that there are only 3 days of testing this year, not like previous seasons where you can have "issues" and then resolve them in the last three days of Barcelona. These ARE the last 3 days.

Just caught the last 10 minutes of the session, Hamilton struggling to put a lap together. He came off the track a few times before the VSC.

I'm not so sure about not reading a lot into today. I mean, there are only three days of testing this year so I'd say today is pretty indicative. It should be, anyway.

116 laps completed. Apart from that one little technical problem, I think we can be reasonably happy with today's program.
