2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix - Practice & Qualifying Thread

    Still at FP1
Just like Bahrain, once again we are losing nearly half a tenth to Max (and Mercedes too) at Sector 1 alone

    A little bit better, +0.2s from S1, +0.1s from S3, we're matching Max in S2

    Ferrari FP1 Jeddah:
    @mara_sangiorgio
said that during the first test session the goal was still to collect data.

They will now focus on qualifying and the GP, especially in the second practice session with the new rear wing specifications. Here it was again the Bahrain wing.

    Ferrari FP1 Jeddah:
@berrageiz's analysis of the behavior of the SF-24.

    - With plenty of fuel in the tanks, the SF-24s seem well balanced, although slight oversteer continues to be felt and a few too many cornering corrections are necessary.

    - The Maranello team worked a lot on this aspect, testing different front load configurations to find the most effective balance regarding the aerodynamic platform. There is still work to be done to fully achieve the goal.

    - More details in FP2, when Ferrari will switch to another configuration for the track.

Man, the SF24 looks good from the onboard. No movement and very stable. Charles looks like not even trying.

Engine is way down in power.

Hamilton blocks Sargent and Saniz…and of course silence from Sky. “The team should have told him earlier about that” “cars should be staggered to avoid this from happening”…nope, never Hamilton’s fault right?

The only positive of Hamilton coming to Ferrari is maybe we will finally get some of this ridiculous Hamilton british bias sent our way for once.

Charles wants -2 on the front, meaning he is more than happy with the turn in.

Total contrast to last year's +6 on the front.

Also Max is half a second slower so wouldn't read much into that Alonso time.

    3 tenths now!

Another example that showcases Ferrari's low engine mode:

    Before the final turn:

    Charles: 300
    Lewis: 308
    Max: 309

And Ferrari is not using any high DF RW here

    I'm not worry
    Race pace is very good
Still a 2-3 tenth downs from Max but faster than anyone else, especially the deg is very good (both Leclerc and Sainz had their fastest lap in the very last laps)
Alonso is not a threat, the Aston deg is very bad

Equation is simple Target Perez until we bring some upgrades to the car which improves performance. With this SF-24 car, if we can target Perez & get few wins at some tracks then we can claim WCC.

It's still a double edge sword since if Charles out perform Hamilton these people will spread conspiracy propaganda against the team and Charles

It should be a decent race for Charles (if his brakes are all right), he was about 3 tenths a lap slower than Verstappen, but about tenth or two faster than Alonso and McLarens, even faster than Perez. We didn't really see Mercedes do a proper race sim, so that's bit of a mystery... but considering Lewis is already being thrown overboard it seems, there's potetntioly only Russel to be weary of.

Carlos doesn't feel well today, so we can't really take today as a representative running. Let's hope he'll feel better for quali and race.

"If he can't do it with Ferrari, well, he can't do it." - John Surtees
