2024 Chinese Grand Prix - Practice, Sprint & Qualifying Thread

FP1 is done. Don't get too worked up with our positions. Ferrari only used one set of softs throughout the practice.

The car looked very good from the onboard.

    Yip correct.

They did their times early when the track was still green. Then chose to focus on the long runs for the remainder of the session, hence the times

Hopefully we've done enough work on setup using just one set of softs

Gotta love mother nature to mix things up for the start of SQ3.

P5 and P7, the "washed up" Hamilton (according to some here) is on pole.

Edit: Norris is on pole for the sprint

So, the SF24 doesn't treat the intermediates well.

Norris better hope for rain tomorrow during the Sprint race if he wants to win.

Hamilton is a beast in rain and has always been. Carlos continues to have a better rhythm. Should be an interesting race

So 2023 started off bad, but managed to claw back some lap time come end of the year. Lets hope SF24 will give us tifosi something to smile about.

so the SF24 has a weakness when it comes to wet pace?? then we better pray for sunny and dry races this season

Same with RB20 , I think with the extremely low speed in wet and resurfaced track , SF-24 and RB-20 aero advantage disappear and everyone is with an equal car
Look like a dream team is coming

I wouldn't go that far. This track was sprayed with a bitumen substance over the track which the teams and Pirelli were unaware. Add to that the wet surface and IMO adds a more slippery surface as opposed to a "normal" track that wasn't sprayed with this bitumen substance.

So let's wait and see on another track on a wet day.

Red Bull and Ferrari have best tyre wear by a mile in races so far this year. Maybe a lot of this is as they control tyre temp better in the dry. Ferrari nit got the quali speed expected this year but also likely down to heating tyres. Overall much better for the race but in wet conditions this maybe hurts Ferrari and Red Bull. Dry sprint race will be interesting as Ferrari and Red Bull are all next to eachother so interesting to see if tyre wear advantage in the dry allows them to take the Aston, Merc, Mclaren infront of them.

IF the weather is dry for the Sprint Race, Norris and Hamilton are going to be left behind by 2 RedBulls and 2 Ferrari's is my prediction.

All the Ferrari's since 2013 have problems in the wet conditions. The last good Ferrari in the wets was the pre TD39 F1-75. Charles was blindingly fast in the wet Monaco 2022 GP before the infamous screw up by the pit wall.

Bottas and Zhou aren't some rain-masters and Max isn't some slowpoke in the wets either. The car makes a huge difference. Charles was P3 after his first run but got hugely compromised by Zhou on his last run. He made a mistake and paid the price, but so did everyone else.

I don't think Ferrari would be too upset with P5 and P7. If it's dry, then we can have a good sprint.

Hopefully Charles finds some form soon, otherwise he might be considered over-rated or washed up on here.....

yeah, some fans are really harsh on him; i consider him highly talented ever since his F2 days when he was blindingly fast, even when he was alongside Vettel (a 4 time champion), he really made Vettel look bad.

he just hasn't found his groove yet with this year;s car, whereas Carlos seems to be a bit more on top

Norris and Verstappen should each have their times deleted.

the same reason Norris' time was initially deleted. track limits. it deletes the current lap and the next lap.

i don't know if it's because it's a race to race thing, is it because there is gravel there and they deemed they didn't gain an advantage.

I can't picture how you don't get an advantage there. but it's not a track i'm as familiar with

obviously because all of the delusional ham fanboys that want to gift him pole, as if he hasn't already been gifted enough in his F1 career. The "#8timesworldchampion" crew are out in full force begging the FIA to disqualify Lando.

Norris went off on his prep lap, and remained within track limits for his timed lap. He did not gain an advantage, if anything, he probably lost time by hitting the gravel before starting his flying lap.
