Its completely off the trajectory of where they expect an impact but I have thought this at some tracks. All perimeter should be covered. Silverstone going into Copse the whole left side is exposed as they think a car will never hit that side but freak collision like this cars can turn 90 degrees at high speed and hit any part of the track.
Overhead cam. Frightening how long Romain was trapped in that fireball.
Crazy how long he was in that burning cockpit, so lucky he could get out from the barrier. Well done the FIA safety team and marshalls.
Forza Ferrari
this is the scariest thing i have seen in my 20 years, i honestly can't watch it anymore, it is unbelievable he came alive from that!! i suppose now he really considers retireing

That his overalls resisted the flames like that... woah.
Suspected broken rib or ribs by Crofty.
It's not how start but how you finish.
@SKY F1
Haas team confirms that RG has broken ribs...!!
Yet to be confirmed officially.
I remember Magnussen having some serious cockpit issues at Imola. Design issue on the car's middle part resulting in the split? Not sure but I really hope not all ten cars would split like this.
If he has escaped with some broken ribs and some minor burns it's still a miracle.
Forza Ferrari
With broken ribs it's fair to say that he's out for the season. At least no-one will ever forget his final F1 race...
Must be immensely tough on everyone on the paddock carry on after that. Testament to the professionalism of the gents and ladies out there. Gunther on now...
If this was a different era in F1.......the situation might no be so lucky.

Kimis crash in Silverstone was really something, and he walked away from that, that was amazing, BUT this crash goes to another level.
omg hats down for f1 security=> hd version https://youtu.be/8oHCzSEk76A
i've never complained about halo - it would have saved Jules, this time it saved his compatriot

Fire protection worn by current F1 drivers:
"It is so resistant to heat and fire that drivers in a Nomex 3 overall can easily survive at least 35 seconds in temperatures of 850 degrees Celsius which is roughly equivalent to heat in a house fire. This material protects the driver against caustic gases and acids."
