Daytona 24hr this year was very good race. Alot of action all the way through. Was, a great example why love endurance racing. Shame the red flag didnt come out few laps earlier, as Risi would of won GTLM. Gutted for #51, and my friends. Was such quick car and drivers. But hey ho, thats racing.

This weekend we have the Bathurst 12hrs. Will open thread for that soon. Got #51 spirit of race racing there, and also HUbAuto Ferrari.

Next WEC race is still just under 2 months away, got that day booked off. As it is on Friday night. Sebring 1000kms, which could, in time wise be 10 hour race. Then on the Saturday, we will have IMSA Sebring 12hrs. What a weekend of racing. Cannt wait.

    My Sebring...Gianmaria Bruni

Ahead of the WEC’s first visit back to America’s historic Sebring Raceway since 2012, we asked a number of drivers in our paddock about what it takes to get a good lap at Sebring, and what’s so special about the track.

“I’m very happy we’re going back, even with a different format of event. To go fast at Sebring is not easy. You have to respect the bumps – as everyone says – but it’s a really hard track to go very, very fast at. You have to really be at one with the car, be totally balanced and trust the car because it’s the only way to go faster on the bumps when your car is sliding everywhere.

“I hope we can have a good race like in the past when the WEC was there in 2012. I’m looking forward to it for sure.

“The atmosphere is good and I think racing in America in March is great when perhaps in Europe it’s bad weather; you’re happy to leave and go to the heat! It’s a very historic circuit and all the crazy racing fans who show up there before, during and even after the race make it special.”

WEC practice begins on Wednesday March 13, including a night practice, with qualifying taking place on Thursday March 14 from 9:30 pm and the green flag dropping for the 1000 Miles of Sebring at 4:00 pm on Friday March 15.

    Rolex 24 second-placed GTD penalized

    https://pbs.twimg.com/card_img/10910...g&name=600x314

IMSA has penalized the second-place Land Motorsport GT Daytona team for a minimum drive-time infraction from last weekend’s Rolex 24 At Daytona.

The penalty moves the No. 29 Audi R8 LMS GT3 to the back of the GTD field in the official results, promoting the No. 12 AIM Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 to second in class and elevating the No. 88 WRT Speedstar Audi Sport entry to third.

Land driver Ricky Feller was found to be afoul of the drive-time rule, which specifies the minimum and maximum amount of time drivers must spend behind the wheel to earn points and, in this instance, comply with the rulebook. In a class like GTD where a mix of professional and amateur drivers share each car, the drive-time regulations are used to ensure the professional do not fill the majority of the available seat time while also safeguarding the interests of the amateurs whose time in the car might otherwise be reduced to the smallest number possible.

According to a statement from IMSA, “Minimum drive-time for the GTD class at the Rolex 24 was four hours, 45 minutes and base drive-time was three hours, 30 minutes. Both times were reduced by a percentage commensurate to the time lost while drive-time was stopped for red flags during the event.”

Citing the sporting regulations that govern drive-time requirements, IMSA added more specifics to the situation with Land’s Feller: “Two drivers rated silver and/or bronze must individually achieve the minimum drive-time and each other driver (regardless of Driver rating) must individually drive the car for a base drive-time as listed in the SR or Car penalized in the drive-time penalty order priority.” It’s believed Feller was 15 minutes short of meeting the minimum drive-time obligation.

Scuderia Corsa’s Toni Vilander was also penalized for a drive-time infraction. Having crashed late in the race, his No. 63 Ferrari 488 GT3 was classified 14th in GTD and was not running at the finish. The No. 63 has also been moved to the bottom of the results.

BMW weighing up WEC exit after single season

BMW is considering quitting the FIA World Endurance Championship after just a single season in the series, Motorsport.com has learned.
The Bavarian brand joined the WEC’s burgeoning GTE Pro division at the start of 2018 with its new M8 GTE, which has also been competing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

While the car has enjoyed success in North America, recently securing GT Le Mans class victory in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, BMW sits last in the WEC GTE Pro manufacturers’ standings with just a sole podium finish scored between the two MTEK-run M8s in five races.

Its two driver crews, Antonio Felix da Costa/Tom Blomqvist and Martin Tomczyk/Nicky Catsburg, sit ninth and 10th in the drivers’ standings.

BMW motorsport boss Jens Marquardt said as recently as last year's Shanghai WEC round that BMW was "in exactly the right spot" in GTE when he effectively ruled out an early participation in the series' new hypercar concept.

But Marquardt told Motorsport.com in Bathurst this weekend that a final decision on the future of the GTE programme wouldn’t be made until after the current WEC campaign concludes at Le Mans in June.

“There are still a lot of things we have to look in to in WEC, we definitely haven't extracted the maximum performance from our package,” he said. “That's what we'll focus on with the remaining races.

“Once we've wrapped up everything, that's when we're going to sit down and assess and see where we go in the future.

“For us, the fortunate situation we have every year with all of the series is that we do the last race and then sit together and decide how we go forward. We don't have to do any development or anything. The car is there, the team is there, so it's easy for us.”

The news comes amid reports BMW could be interested in stepping up to IMSA’s top DPi division in future, possibly even as early as 2020.

Marquardt likewise said the M8 GTE programme in IMSA is not firmed up beyond 2019, adding: “We'll race until Petit Le Mans [in October] and then sit down [to decide] afterwards.”

Ford's WEC future also in doubt
BMW is not the only one the WEC’s five current GTE Pro manufacturers in doubt for 2019/20, as the question of Ford’s participation beyond the end of the 2018/19 campaign remains unresolved.

The Blue Oval originally committed to a four-year programme with the GT starting in 2016, but the WEC’s switch to a winter calendar means its current commitment to the series expires after Le Mans this year.

A Ford Chip Ganassi Racing UK spokesperson would only say that “there’s nothing to announce at the moment on our plans beyond the end of the superseason” when contacted by Motorsport.com about the matter.

Ford’s IMSA GTLM programme will run at least to the end of the 2019 season, with the American marque also thought to be interested in a DPi move.

If both BMW and Ford were to leave the WEC’s GTE Pro class, it would leave three manufacturers left in the category: Ferrari, Aston Martin and Porsche. All three are also currently represented in GTE Am

Me too, very close racing on what looks like a pretty narrow track, and the cars sounded nicely meaty too! I believe Spirit of Race 488 got the Pro Am class win, bravo.

Ferrari of Spirit of Race wins Pro-Am class

Mount Panorama, 3 February 2019 – The Ferrari 488 GT3 of Spirit of Race, crewed by Paul Dalla Lana, Mathias Lauda and Pedro Lamy won the Pro-Am class in the 2019 edition of the Bathurst 12 Hours, the first round of the SRO International GT Challenge championship.

Extreme race. The value of Ferrari’s victory in the hard-fought professional and gentlemen drivers’ class is all the greater given the extreme weather conditions. Starting at dawn in Australia, the race quickly turned into a marathon for men and vehicles, with very few neutralisations (over 100 laps and seven hours with no Safety Car) and very high temperatures of up 43 degrees centigrade. Paul Dalla Lana, Mathias Lauda and Pedro Lamy put in a flawless performance, making up 24 positions on the qualifying session to finish in ninth place. The advantage of almost two laps over their nearest pursuers, Hazelwood-Lago-Russell in the Audi of Matt Stone Racing’s, also says a lot about the quality of the performance of the Spirit of Race team.

HubAuto Corsa. On the other side, the HubAuto Corsa crew of Nick Foster, Tim Slade and Nick Percat in the other Ferrari, had a trickier race right from the off. The 488 GT3 no. 27 was in fact involved in an accident with a slower car before the two-hour mark. The time taken to recover and repair the car knocked the HubAuto Corsa crew out of the running. After restarting they eventually they crossed the line in 18th. The overall victory went to the Porsche of Earl Bamber Motorsport with Werner-Olsen-Campbell.

Hartley To Make WEC Return At Sebring Driving with SMP

After a year spent away from sportscars in 2018, racing in Formula One with Toro Rosso, Brendon Hartley is set to return to competing in the FIA WEC’s LMP1 class at Sebring next month in the 1000-mile race.

The Kiwi, who won the 2015 and 2017 FIA WEC titles, will replace reigning Super GT Champion Jenson Button at Sebring and Spa in SMP Racing’s #11 BR1 AER, racing alongside Mihail Aleshin and Vitaly Petrov. Button is unable to make the trip to either Sebring or Spa due to racing commitments elsewhere.

“I’m very pleased to join SMP Racing for the next two WEC races at Sebring and Spa,” Brendon Hartley commented. “The team have all the tools and a great driver roster so I think we have a big opportunity to fight for podiums. It marks my return to the WEC and I’m really looking forward to being back in the paddock amongst many familiar faces.”

This news follows the announcement that Sergey Sirotkin will also join the Russian team to replace Matevos Isaakyan in the team’s #17 BR1 to race alongside Stéphane Sarrazin and Egor Orudzhev at Sebring.

Toyota Formally Confirm 2019/20 FIA WEC Programme

Returning with pair of TS050 LMP1 Hybrids

There’s no major surprise at the confirmation overnight from Toyota Gazoo Racing that they will return to FIA WEC competition for the 2019/2020 season with a pair of TS050 Hybrid LMP1s.

The driver line-up for next season is still to be confirmed though looks increasingly unlikely to see Fernando Alonso returning as part of the full season WEC line-up.

The 2019/20 season sees the seventh consecutive full season WEC campaign for the Toyota team, an ever-present after joining the WEC at Le Mans in the opening season of the Championship in 2012.

Since then the team has scored a record 20 overall race wins with their TS030, 040 and now 050 LMP1s including the Manufacturers and Drivers World Championship in 2014 and the Le Mans 24 Hours win in 2018.

First 50 Entrants For 2019 Le Mans 24 Hours To Be Confirmed Tomorrow
Surprises in LMP1, GTE Pro... or both?

The first tranche of entries for the 2019 Le Mans 24 Hours will be confirmed by the ACO tomorrow. (today)

The first 50 entries will be confirmed on Monday 11 February with the final ten, plus ten reserve entries confirmed following the conclusion of the Asian Le Mans Series in late February (which determines a further four auto entries) on 1 March.

Monday’s tranche is set to see which of the initially announced 36 FIA WEC entrants will take up their slot, the vast majority are set to do so with the only major questions surrounding acceptance (or otherwise) and status of a group of LMP1 teams that include the pair of now AER engined Ginettas, both of which DSC believes have been entered, the ByKolles, set to miss Sebring as a result of an ongoing dispute with current engine supplier NISMO, and DragonSpeed, the status of the programme with the Gibson-powered BR1 currently unclear.

The next tranche to be confirmed on Monday will be the currently confirmed Auto Entries, 11 of the 15 available auto entries have been finalised, though Monday will almost certainly see confirmation of which teams have paid the fees to activate those entries.

Toyota Gazoo Racing and the Porsche Factory GT team are unlikely to request their additional entries (both earned for success at the 2018 Le Mans 24 Hours) and the LMP2 entry for Signatech Alpine may, or may not feature alongside the French team’s already assured WEC place (though in the current circumstances the French team will have been wise to confirm it).

Elsewhere in LMP2, the entries for G-Drive Racing (ELMS LMP2 Champions) and RLR MSport (ELMS LMP3 Champions) are certain to be confirmed.

The remainder of the auto-entries are set to come in LM GTE Am with Proton Competition/ Dempsey Proton set to have their pair confirmed for Porsche wins both at Le Mans last year and in the ELMS GTE class. With their pair of WEC entries, all four of the team’s fleet of Porsche 911 RSRs look set to race in June.

Likewise JMW Motorsport will be confirmed with their Ferrari 488 GTE after their auto entry for the runner up slot in ELMS.

Kessel Racing are set to make their first ever Le Mans appearance under their own (Swiss) flag after taking the class win in the Michelin Le Mans Cup.

The pair of IMSA Auto entries both looks set to come in GTE Am with the Weathertech Racing squad allocated the spot initially earned, but passed over, by Misha Goikhberg – the team set to run a Scuderia Corsa run and Weathertech-branded Ferrari 488 GTE.

That leaves the final auto entry from IMSA, this one in the hands of Ben Keating who, after running a Risi Competizione-operated Ferrari last year at Le Mans looks set to add variety to the class with the first privately-run Ford GT in 2019.

So, assuming all 36 WEC entries are confirmed, and 8 or 9 auto entries join them, that leaves a final group of five or more cars to complete the first 50.

That’s most likely to be composed of a number of additional GTE Pro cars sourced from the IMSA full season entry once again.

The factory Corvettes are a given (presuming they enter only two!), but which from Ford, BMW and Porsche will come – and if they do come will it be two additional cars for some, or just one – Both Ford and Porsche have certainly requested an additional two? And will the likely Ferrari entry from Risi Competizione be successful in gaining a place?

Whatever happens, if the 50 car announcement from the ACO is to be adhered to then there are either going to be some changes in LMP1, or some disappointments in GTE Pro – or a cocktail of both!

As things stand, if 36 WEC cars are accepted, and 8-9 Auto entries, there would simply not be space within the announcement for all of the requested cars, even without an entry for the IMSA BMWs, though there would be space for one apiece beyond the Corvettes.

Always presuming, of course there’s nothing ‘left field’ on the list tomorrow!

And all of that is before we get into the fun and games on 1 March over which title winners from the Asian Le Mans Series will take up their opportunities, and where that leaves a large number of ELMS LMP2 entries, plus at least one from IMSA, and the remaining ELMS GTE teams.

We expect there to be several very significant players featuring on the Reserve List only in 2019!

41 Cars On The Full-Season ELMS Entry

LMP2 18 cars, GTE grows to nine
    12 February 2019, 10:03 AM

Following yesterday’s Le Mans 24 Hours entry list news, the ACO has lifted the covers on the 2019 European Le Mans Series entry list, which features a max grid size of 41 cars across the three classes.

The big headline here is the hugely-impressive 18-car LMP2 grid, the series again featuring three of the four LMP2 chassis, with 11 ORECAs, six Ligiers and a single Dallara.

Michelin has made great strides in the off-season, with 11 of the 18 currently nominating the French tyre manufacturer.

There are five new teams to the class this year, four of which step up from LMP3 (Inter Europol, Cool Racing, RLR MSport & BHK Motorsport) with, as trailed on DSC the addition of LMP2 and sportscar racing newcomer Carlin.

Missing from the list this season is the second-placed team from 2018, and Paul Ricard race winner Racing Engineering, believed to be set for a GT3 programme in 2019. As expected, neither the AVF nor SMP Racing Dallara efforts have returned either, the ex-SMP chassis understood by DSC to be the car that Carlin is running this year.

Also unsurprising is Panis Barthez has doubled its effort to two cars, whilst after a troubled 2018, GRAFF fields just a single LMP2 car this time.

The news in LMP3, is that the class has been squeezed, with increased numbers in LMP2 and GTE, to cater to the full 41-car maximum grid size. More than half the total composed of four two-car teams, with 360 Racing and Nielsen Racing both doubling up this year. M Racing though, and Eurointernational is down to one car apiece.

Realteam Racing is a new name to the grid, though the car will be operated by regular GRAFF. Previous champions United Autosports and RLR MSport both return meanwhile, both with Ligiers.

Norma hasn’t made any further in-roads for 2019, just four of the 14 cars are M30s.

From the 2018 full season entry Cool Racing step up to LMP2 and forego their LMP3 effort in ELMS, BySpeed factory appears to have had their entry refused for ELMS and DKR Engineering, as expected, stepping back to Michelin Le Mans Cup.

There is no sign either of the Villorba Corse Ligier effort, just recently announced, will that be seen in the Michelin Le Mans Cup instead?

In GTE, there’s nine cars, up from last year, with the addition of GT Open regular Luzich Racing, WEC team (leading GTE Am championship) Project 1 and two Kessel Ferraris as revealed by DSC late last year.

Driver wise, Jeff Seagal is a notable name for JMW, as well as long-term factory driver Richard Lietz in the #77 Dempsey Proton branded car. For Kessel, one car features Le Mans Cup winner Claudio Schiavoni, the other car will be an all-female squad.

    Below is the full list.

The provisional entry list for the FIA WEC collective test session on 9-10 March at Sebring Raceway has today been revealed. Of the 34 cars due to take the start of the 1000 Miles of Sebring on Friday 15 March, 29 will be using the two-day test to learn the track and how to respect the bumps!

Those not choosing to take part in the official collective test are the two DragonSpeed entries (No.10 in LMP1 and No.31 in LMP2), the two Jackie Chan DC Racing ORECAs from LMP2 and the Corvette Racing LMGTE Pro entry.

DragonSpeed and Jackie Chan DC Racing, however, took part in a private test at the Florida track in early February, together with Toyota Gazoo Racing and Ford Chip Ganassi Team UK. Corvette Racing, a legendary name in North American endurance racing, knows Sebring better than most and has recorded five victories (GTLM) in the last decade alone.

There is just one new driver name on the list, that of BMW’s John Edwards. The American driver will be bringing his considerable Sebring experience to BMW Team MTEK over the two days.

It's not how start but how you finish.
