    Alpine having a shocker

Alpine tweet that Piastri is driving for them next season...

Piastri tweets that he is not

Rumoured he has already signed with McLaren.

This is gold if Alpine booted Alonso to make room for him.

They were at least committed to the one stop and it kind of worked out for them. Ferrari on the other hand used Hards with what turned out to be a 3 stopper.

The Renault brand is just a mess. Totally destroyed. One win in like, 4 years since Red Bull dumped them. I wouldn't be surprised if they withdraw from F1 if things don't improve in a year or so.

No, it didn’t work at all for them. But it gave Rueda the idea to put them on Leclerc’s car to make him lose, unless the idea had already come to him when Isola warned them, before the race, that the hards wouldn’t work

According to Otmar, Alonso didn't even inform them that he was seriously negotiating with AM. Alpine fully expected to retain him.

I think McLaren and Piastri come off looking the worst in this. Ricciardo has a contract, they're hardly better than Alpine anyway and they've already pulled the same stunt over in America with Palou. Quite pathetic display really.

How good is Piastri? Does his junior record place him in the same level as Verstappen, Leclerc, Russel and Norris?

    3 titles in 3 years.

Won f3 and f2 in his first year, same as Charles and George.

I'm having major doubts about his journey though.

Only won F3 through consistency rather than speed and F2 was seriously depleted before last year with a lot of drivers departing. Only really had to beat Zhou to win the title and he's bang average. I think Norris will manhandle him next season thanks to the experience of the very tricky McLaren car, maybe even more so than versus Ricciardo.

Alpine might need to beg to Ricciardo to come back then

But they shouldn't be too desperate especially if he asks for his usual $$$ after such abysmal performance for 2 years straight. Maybe they could pretend to talk with Hulkenberg or Vettel for leverage.

Is he good enough for McLaren to drop a driver like Red Bull did for Verstappen? He has 0 F1 experience except maybe during testing. Being inactive for a year straight must've screwed over his image too.

Hard to tell, he has a lot of hype around him.

Way I see it he's probably worth the risk. Riciardo is pretty bad at the moment and won't get any better.
