https://youtu.be/Ky_2MZ4mI-4 Rosberg has some inside info about our engine. Go to the 9min mark. He explains how we have that extra HP from the turbos.

Ferrari engine better than Mercedes - Rosberg

Tuesday 10 July at 04:35 : Jul.10 (GMM) Nico Rosberg says the engine is what is making the difference at Ferrari this year.

The 2016 world champion says he thinks his old teammate Lewis Hamilton is having a tough time fending off Sebastian Vettel's title assault mainly because of horse power.

"I know from an insider source why Ferrari is so strong," said the former Mercedes driver.

"They have found more power from their engine. The turbo has been upgraded and more recharging is happening for additional power," Rosberg said.

"It's a small advantage at this time but Ferrari has done a good job."

Meanwhile, Rosberg has questioned Hamilton's sudden interest in football.

Hamilton said at Silverstone that he wanted to skip Saturday's press conference to watch England play in the world cup.

And he says he is keeping July 15 free in his diary so he can travel to Russia for the final.

But Rosberg told Bild newspaper: "Lewis is not really a football fan. It's all a bit of a show. That's part of his image."

However, the German does think Hamilton will eventually win in 2018, notwithstanding the engine deficit.

"I keep thinking that Lewis will get the title. Mercedes is incredibly strong as a team," he said.

There was also a youtube video of Rosberg saying this (Ferrari's turbo-->But in summary, he was saying that Ferrari came up with an ingenious way of manipulating the turbos to spin harder and at a higher pressure to be able to more rapidly generate electric surplus allowing for the drivers to push around the circuit with more hp all the time ie more boost at their disposal.) but the video got taken down.

I'm sure if you were a pit crew mechanic in any team, you would know everybodys secrets....included personal secrets as well. Plus these ex-F1 drivers get the "chatter" or "scoop/gossip/tech." over morning tea or breakfast or late afternoon luncheon or supper.

Rosberg does take a dig at his former team-mate...."it's all a show" when Lewis likes soccer. Personally, I think he's (Lewis) more interested in something else....that's just my opinion.

How Rosberg know so much about Ferrari PU? Or it is pure speculation? I don’t like it, because Mercedes can come up with something like that.

I agree, Lewis is more interested in something else; like finishing F1 with 100+ poles and top the WDC record; and whatever other record he can break in the time he has left.

With the car he drove since 2007, he still couldn't get to those 2 records. Overrated driver.

Summer break will decide the titles. If our car is still on par with Mercs or better, we will win both titles. That being said, we have to maximize these races before the break. We should be better than them in Hungary, and in Germany is 50-50 I think.

Title duel Ferrari vs. Mercedes, The weak spot of the silver arrows - AMuS (June 15, 2018)

The title fight Ferrari against Mercedes swings back and forth. Right now, Ferrari is back in the lead. Because the challenger tries to selectively exploit weak points of Mercedes. We'll explain where the Silver Arrow is vulnerable ..

In the duel Ferrari against Mercedes it is 4: 3 after victories. Or 287: 267 on points. Ferrari also leads the leaderboard with 252: 214, 12:11 podium finishes and 18:17 points.

Calculated after racing kilometers, the two title candidates are practically the same number with 5,721 to 5,718 in favor of Mercedes. Ferrari, however, has a failure less to get over. Two defects of Mercedes faces one of Ferrari. Mercedes is in pole with a pole position (5: 4) and a fastest lap (3: 2).

The duel of the two automobile icons is also a duel Sebastian Vettel against Lewis Hamilton. Again, most of the comparisons go to Vettel after 10 races. The Ferrari driver beat Hamilton with 4: 3 wins, 171: 163 points, 1: 0 fastest race laps and 1,287 to 822 leading kilometers.

He has more points (10: 9), but fewer podiums (6: 7). And Vettel finished in every race. This is also expressed in the race kilometers. Vettel gives Hamilton the defeat with 3,014 to 2,975 kilometers. Although there is currently a stalemate with 4: 4 in the best times in training, Vettel is at the top of the average of all starting positions with 2.3: 2.8.

Four factors determine the balance of power

So far the hard facts. If you look at the course of the World Cup, then swings the title race back and forth. Ferrari took the lead. Mercedes managed to equalize until the GP Azerbaijan and took the handle in Barcelona in the hand. Two races later, at the GP Canada, Ferrari again had the upper hand. Just to give them back to Mercedes in France. Now Ferrari is ahead again. It would be too easy to pin it down to track layouts, exterior conditions, or tire options alone.

After the GP Spain everyone believed Pirelli's emergency tires with the thinner tread was a Mercedes tire. Now Ferrari has won a Grand Prix on exactly this tire. The rubber compound brings no resolution. The majority of the teams in Spain and England confined themselves to the mixtures soft and medium.

Of course, one could argue now that Ferrari has to be significantly stronger than its adversary if you win on a Mercedes track with Mercedes tires. But that does not fit. Only seven days earlier in Spielberg, Mercedes left the red cars in training by 3 tenths, and that on a track with only 63 seconds of driving time. Without the defects Mercedes would have easily won the GP Austria.

Track type, weather and tires certainly play a role. But only one. The second, at least as important factor, are the upgrades. The third is the basic strategy with which the two teams go into the race. The fourth then individual error, be it the driver or at the command post.

Old rules are no longer valid

It can be said that the Mercedes of the car are more like the racetracks with liquid curves. The W09 likes fast and mid-paced turns. In slow, short radii he seems too sluggish. Ferrari has the better traction.

The last aero development of Mercedes should remedy this weakness. Spielberg and Silverstone were bad grounds for argument because of the many fast corners. We will see in Hockenheim if that is the case. Ferrari is stronger where there are many straights, harassment and hairpins. The aerodynamic efficiency of the SF71H fits best for this type of range.

Once upon a time the rule was that Mercedes does not like the heat and the soft tire compounds. That's not true today. All three races of the previous triples offered asphalt temperatures beyond 40 degrees. In Paul Ricard and Spielberg Ultrasoft and Supersoft rubbers were on offer. Mercedes could theoretically have won all three Grand Prix. Ferrari only two of them. Mercedes was too strong in Paul Ricard.

If both teams went into the race with the same tactics, then the Ferrari would be the more tire-loving car. In any case in traffic. That remains a weak point of the Mercedes. The Silver Arrows lose too much downforce in bad air, start to slip and put more strain on the tires than they are good for.

The GP Austria was a good example of this. At the top in clean air and with self-determined pace, Hamilton had no tire problem. When he fell back into the field and he was forced by the speed of the race situation, the heavily loaded rear tires threw bubbles.

The Ferrari Trick: Escape at the top

Ferrari knows the Mercedes problem and plays with it. It's about putting Mercedes behind at the start of the race. That's why Ferrari often tunes their cars so that they definitely make it to the front row and are faster in the first part of the stint. It has become a tactic for Vettel, as quickly as possible to create a five-second gap to his pursuers and only later to take care of the tire management.

He just has to prevent a Mercedes from overtaking him at the first pit stop with an undercut. If he remains in the lead, he will drive the second part of the race conservatively. That means. He tries to spare the tires at the beginning to make ends meet. The remaining distance is usually longer with him than with his opponents.

A strong indication of this theory was Ferrari's tire choice in France and Austria. Both times they swam against the trend and opted for the Ultrasoft tire in Q2. Like Mercedes and Red Bull, they could easily qualify for the Q3 on Supersoft soles. But that was not the point.

The idea was to have a tire at the start, guaranteeing an advantage of five to eight meters on the first 300 to 500 meters to the first corner, and allowing the Ferrari drivers to escape so far in the first ten laps, that Mercedes is tactically tied hands.

In Silverstone, the top three teams started with soft tires. Nevertheless, Ferrari again saw an alternative strategy. Vettel and Raikkonen got much earlier problems with the left front tire as Mercedes. This is unusual and suggests that speed was more important on one lap than distance.

To make sure the master plan works, Ferrari worked hard on the launches. "Since the GP Canada, we find that Ferrari has the better and more consistent starts than we do. And every race, "the engineers admit. Team principal Toto Wolff names four areas that are relevant for the start: "Engine power, clutch, operability, execution by the driver." At Mercedes, it is believed that Ferrari has improved the performance of the engine in the acceleration phase and the clutch.

    Ferrari mobilizes more electric power

    Formula 1 technology upgrades
The Ferrari major conversion in detail

The arms race of the two top teams swings back and forth as the score. In Montreal Ferrari brought its Spec2 engine and the first part of a larger aerodynamics package. New baffles were installed between front wheels and side boxes. Mercedes had nothing in the luggage. The new engine had to turn a holding pattern on the test bench. Ferrari won.

In France, Mercedes unpacked its engine development. In addition aerodynamic retouching in the barely visible area. Ferrari tried a new front wing. The round went clearly to Mercedes. At the GP Austria the Silver Arrow showed a new look. The aerodynamic upgrade included side cabinets, underbody, baffles, mirrors, diffuser and rear wing. Ferrari took a break.

The point would have gone to Mercedes, had not taken defects in the cars. In the end, not even Ferrari won, but Red Bull. In Silverstone Ferrari completed its aerodynamic package with a new underbody and modifications to the engine cover. The improvement in the fast corners was noticeable. Mercedes only sent minor adjustments after the big aero serve. Result: Ferrari drove at eye level, and that on a track that is actually safe Mercedes country.

GPS measurements showed that the Ferrari drive on the full-throttle passages recently fell much less in the de-rating than the Mercedes engine. That means: Ferrari uses longer and more the electric power. What brings you advantages in top speed. At Silverstone, this advantage was so obvious because there is little braking on this circuit and the kinetic energy recuperation is lower than on any other track.

Mercedes now suspects that Ferrari with the second engine specification have trimmed the turbocharger and the MGU-H exactly to produce more electric power. The advantage will be only marginally recognizable in Hockenheim, in Budapest all the more.

I expect Hockenheim will be a close race. Budapest has generally been good for Ferrari, hopefully that will continue.

nothing that is being pointed out like the other teams. Mercedes brought minor details. Williams has a new front wing along with Mclaren. Mclaren and RedBull have new floors. Renault has the biggest package...new front wing and floors.
