Calm down there, slappy. No one said everyone in Italy is dumb, I said that by staying in Italy Ferrari limit themselves in who they can get to work for them. A smaller pool of talent equates to fewer talented people. Its simple statistics.

So everyone who supports Merc is a Nazi and likes old lady pee porn? Seems like that's what Germany is mostly about. LOL

Come on. Oh, and people rag on the USA all the time, who cares? Again, I am not ragging on Italy, see above statement.

I don't see how staying in Italy limits Ferrari in the talent department. People work all over Europe all the time. The only way they would limit themselves is if they only insisted on hiring Italians. I'm pretty sure they can recruit great talent from other places. Doesn't have to be Newey or Allison. probably lot of people would love the chance to work on a Ferrari F1 car.

Take Adrian Newey for example.....ferrari offered him boat load of money....and I mean BOAT LOAD, and his response was no thank you....he just refused to relocate in Italy....and I don’t blame him one bit, had ferrari had a factory in England, I betcha Newey would have come to us in a heartbeat and maybe, just maybe by now drivers the likes of Alo, Vettel....etc would have been champions.....

Oh well....let’s hope with the help of brilliant Rory our fortunes will swing our way.....fingers crossed

“Working at Ferrari is in many ways an unalloyed joy, but the country is so pro-the team, the brand is so strong, the history and heritage of Ferrari are so important that you do feel you are part of something that is itself important, and that’s a real strength for that group"
    [/QUOTE]

Yeah Allison, Ferrari treated him well after the death of his wife. But during his stint at Ferrari I wasn't very impressed about what he did there. He isn't a Newey. And Remember Pat Fry... let's not mention Pat Fry...

Because no one seems to want to relocate to Italy, hens, they seem to only be able to hire Italians.

    Perfect example.

The other is James Allison. After his wife passed he wanted to be with family, his family wasn't in Italy and didn't want to relocate there, so he left.

Aside from a few well known people not wanting to move to Italy, is it possible Ferrari is deliberately only wanting to hire Italians? It was already stated Ferrari is about it's country, which is a bit of a slap in the face to anyone that isn't Italian apparently. I cheer for Ferrari because of the brand, not because of the country it's made in.

I believe it was James Allison, in his newly pressed Mercedes garb, that leaked to the FIA details about our floor a few years back. But yeah....

Doesn't mean he might still not want to join and add a couple of Ferrari titles to his name. be a nice way to retire from the sport. Ferrari should try and get him to come over, although the RB hasn't been so hot the last few years. Him and Byrne. Potent.

No one is so far 2 people. Many have relocated. And many from Italy have probably relocated to other places. Just because 2 people, well really only 1 because Allison did come over, say it was location doesn't mean everyone is put off. There might be lots of young geniuses out there whose wives would love to live in Italy.

#AMuS "Ferrari would actually have to make three to four major changes in the car, but they only have two tokens. They chose the gearbox to make the rear end narrower.."

If it's true that Ferrari will use their two tokens on the gearbox, we shouldn't expect major changes at the front, considering a nose change requires a token (because it belongs to the crash structure).

ICE, turbocharger, MGU-H, fuel and oil specifications can't be changed until the end of this year. So yeah Ferrari is stuck with this "weak" engine at least for this season.

And you’ve agreed “for the good of the sport” with the freeze on engines and chassis for this season.....again having jelly fish spine for backbone....no Cohones once o ever...

Also else Lewis can't win a WDC either.

Why even watch F1 until 2022...

Not sure the full token system is valid on the aero and chassis, is it not implemented in stages throughout this season. Heard that they could if required change the nose but would need a token from Italian Grandprix onwards. The engine is frozen though. Really do not see the point of engine freeze how does that help the little teams like William's and McLaren on costs? Engine makers can afford to and want to improve their engines freezing them just ruins the show, apart from Merc all other engine makers want to improve. No money is saved as the charge to small teams is fixed and money is being spent to improve engines for next year the token system just means they are delayed using them, ruining the competitive spectacle when the engine makers have the money and are using the money.

I don't get the token thing either. Didn't work before, probably not going to work now. Let teams improve their car or give everyone a Merc.

Has that gearbox change been brought to a race yet or no?

    Absolutely ridiculous 'rules'.

Remember the days when if a team started out with a bad car they could bring in a new B-spec and C-spec engine and basically a new car if they wanted, close the gap and be competitive again? The performance of teams could therefore go up and down due to all the constant development.

Now if a team starts with the best car, it's basically over for everyone else the rest of the season.

Hard to argue that these rules are not currently heavily in favour of Mercedes....

So Elkann confirming what we all suspected but hoped wasn't the case. Regardless at least I can now watch the rest of the next two seasons intermittently when I fancy it and with very low expectations. It's the right decision given we've produced a poor car, lets plow ahead for the rule change devote all resources there and hope the structural changes with rory etc. and development leads to a competitive car in 2022.

The token system would be fine if implemented properly

It should depend on where you finished in the WCC the previous year, so

Merc would get say 2 tokens
    Redbull would get 4 tokens
and so one until down to Williams who would get something like 10 tokens

I still can't fathom why our engine is so weak, surely even allowing for the tricks we may have played with the fuel flow last year, our engine should still at least be on the same level as Honda and Renault, why do Ferrari appear to have lost their ability to build an ICE with similar or equal power to them, while all the time Merc are able to extend their ICE advantage even further. It's a complete mess and the thought of having to wait until 2022 to become competitive is ridiculous. Is there no way to use any tokens to rectify shortcomings on this year's ICE, seeing that Mclaren can change to Merc engines in 2021 using tokens, RP can become Aston Martin-Merc, and yet Ferrari are completely powerless to react to the increasing threat of Formula Mercedes.

Because the only thing they worked on the 2018 and 2019 engine was the trick. Spa 2017 brutally exposed the engine that year. Vettel was on brand new Ultrasofts vs Hamilton on used softs, that is 2 steps softer. 2 steps softer tyre + slipstream was not enough to pass the Mercedes. Watch this https://youtu.be/rhmGaCjpoBY?t=270

Remove the tricks in 2020 and it's 2017 engine all over again.

Two that we know of only because they are famous. Consider how many engineers in lower positions won't move?

Anyway, it's a moot point. The culture at the team won't change, and they will continue to be a suck fest for a minimum of several years. Maybe if Merc quits they can get on the podium again?
