Working in the pit during a qualifying
session or Grand Prix race means being ready for action at all times, withstanding heat or
cold, nervous tension and the pressure of the race. Only those who are physically and
mentally fit can be sure of completing every pit stop in record time.
In fact, shaving even a few tenths of a second during this important phase can make the
difference between Grand Prix victory or defeat. Over 100 people, all of them highly
specialized, contribute decisively to the success of a Formula One driver. And only those
who are most highly motivated and physically fit can be at their best. So Ferrari has
decided to offer its F1 team the best possible Wellness program, in order to put everyone
in the same optimal psychophysical condition as the drivers.
Corporate Wellness, therefore, not just for traditional companies, but also for those who
race at 300 km per hour. This is the case of the Ferrari Racing Team and TechnogymŪ, who
have joined forces in a collaboration that has reaped exceptional results in recent years,
culminating with the world F1 championship this past season. In addition to the
constructors' title, Ferrari has also reclaimed the drivers' championship title--brought
back to Maranello after 21 long years by Michael Schumacher.
But here is the new initiative: Ferrari has decided to offer its employees a new service:
the "Wellness Project". It all started with the routine medicals-involving a
complete specialist health check--given to the racing team crew at the end of the season.
The company decided to extend this service to its employees in other departments, in order
to foster a culture of wellness within the company.
Hence the involvement of TechnogymŪ The Wellness Company, who set up a
state-of-the-art gym within the Fiorano practice circuit, equipped with the new
Selection line machines and the Wellness System. For three days a week, the
racing team trains in this gym, divided into three work groups and under the guidance of a
physical education instructor.
The program also aims to equip participants with behavioral strategies for maintaining an
adequate level of physical activity even during the many days of travel abroad. Personnel
who are not part of the racing crew can train at partner fitness centers, always assisted
by a personal trainer. Motivation and monitoring of results are assured in both cases by
the use of computer technologies such as the Wellness System, which allows
participants to track their progress on their own PC. The Wellness Formula Ferrari is, in
short, an innovatory project which puts the Maranello-based Racing Team in first place in
the continual search for improved quality of life and performance. |
