Fernando Alonso has no concerns about exceeding his permitted engine supply before the end of the season.

Each driver is allowed to use eight engines over the course of the year, and with four races remaining Alonso has just one Ferrari V8 remaining. After a problem in Bahrain and a failure in Malaysia, Ferrari altered its engine for the Spanish Grand Prix and has experienced no problems since.

However, Alonso has only one fresh engine remaining while his title rivals driving for McLaren and Red Bull have two. Drivers are expected to take a fresh engine for the Italian Grand Prix - one of the most strenuous on the calendar - meaning Alonso will have to compete at the final four races with older units.

"We are confident [of not taking a penalty]," Alonso told GP Week in Belgium. "The plan of the engines is well in control at the moment. Fingers crossed everything stays like this and we know the programme for all the remaining races. It should be enough with the engines we have. If everything goes normal there is no problem."

Team principal Stefano Domenicali added: "I see no reason to worry."

Pedro de la Rosa is the only driver to have used more than eight engines this season after the Ferrari unit in the back of his Sauber expired in Belgium.
