Lewis Hamilton has said he would rather lose the world championship in a fair fight than win it using team orders.

In a sideswipe at Ferrari and rival driver Fernando Alonso, the former world champion declared: "Some people like to win a championship in a different way.

"Jenson and myself would be proud to go neck and neck to the end.

"And if we end up losing the championship to someone like Fernando because the whole team was for him, I don't think I would feel too bad about it.

"I would feel like I had worked my hardest and done my best."

Hamilton's fellow McLaren driver Jenson Button also blasted moves to legalise team orders, saying it would be "incomprehensible" and adding it could even force him to quit the sport.

Ahead of tomorrow's Italian Grand Prix, Button said: "I am here because I am passionate about the sport. I want to win, I want to beat every driver.

"If it is made legal I wouldn't be very happy at all. That's not the way it should be, but it's not my decision."

Hamilton also said he would never bow to team orders but would help a friend like Button if his own chances had died.

If not for the swear filter on here my post would be rather different.

So the lying, cheating hypocrite with the luck of the devil himself to start life in a team that had to steal our blue prints to build a car that could win races this millennium, thinks he is above team orders?
So Dave Ryan didn't make him lie to the stewards as was Lewis's tearful defence of following Dave Ryan's team order. So if that's the case, Lewis not only decided to lie and cheat to take Jarno Trulli's 3rd spot all on his own or with equal accord with Dave Ryan, but he then lied to his fans and the world when he tried to defend his actions?

I also guess that neither him or Jenson will be conserving any more fuel then!!!!!!!!!!!

What a pair of ..................................

What he said:
"Jenson and myself would be proud to go neck and neck to the end".
What he meant:
"Jenson should be proud to go behind my neck to the end".

What he said:
"And if we end up losing the championship to someone like Fernando because the whole team was for him, I don't think I would feel too bad about it."
What he meant:
"Who cares if he has a whole team for him, I have the whole FIA at my service"

What he said:
"I would feel like I had worked my hardest and done my best."
What he meant:
"I would feel like I had worked my hardest and broke the rules my best."

What he said:
"[TO] would be "incomprehensible" and adding it could even force me to quit the sport".
What he meant:
"NO WAY i'm quitting F1".

What he said:
"If it is made legal I wouldn't be very happy at all."
What he meant:
"I don't want to be second driver of Lewis!".

What an absolute outright hypocrite. Even from him it's rank this is the man who has broken every rule in the book and got away from it. How often has he benefited from team orders---ask Hekki!.
I just hope LDM reads this. :-):-)

I'll try and dig out the link but read a report that RonDon has instructed Shitmarsh to 100% support LuLu from now on..........that crap team was built on team orders- ask DC, Montoya or anyone else for that matter..........
The more that guy opens his mouth the more i am convinced he does not have a grey cell in his head.........

Because both of them have had team orders in the past maybe, Lewis won his title with Heikki moving over in France, Germany and Silverstone just for example....

If they are right then you probably only credit MS was 2 titles then yeah?

If Lewis says he would "never bow to team orders", I hope he enjoys collecting his P45. F1 drivers are no different to the rest of us - we all have to do what our bosses tell us to.

it's not about the titles it's about F1 racing, I hated when Rubens let Schumacher pass in Austria and also vice versa. Let's not dig about the past but concentrate on the future so those things never happen in any team anymore.

What a joke, silverstone where they banned wheels passing and lewis went to lap the entire field. Germany where he was a second faster and had to also overtake mass a and piquet, while kovi never made up a single extra spot, yeah great job holding Lewis up so they get a 4 and 5 instead of 1 and 4 this place really need to get a grip.

Talking of hypocrites, how's Alonso? Moaning about a fixed race in Valencia and then asking for team orders, really should be careful where you fling stones.

Lewis and McLaren should consider going into politics where everyone lies to hell and back just to appear like a paragon of virtue

LOL banged wheels? Heikki drove nearly off the track to let him pass into Stowe, moved over, under team orders, something Lewis said he would not like to win a title with, so the only joke is him. Lewis is a liar and we all know it, attacking Alonso to defend your beloved is not going to cut it either.

Indeed.

Ferrari have been harshly punished this season both for the WDC and the WCC.

It's not about that, is it? It's about LH, JB and McLaren saying things that are oh so clearly hypocritical lies. Regardless of the feelings about Germany this year, this thread is not about that.

Maybe we forget that they are not the only ones who are hypocrites...
It was a manipulated race for Alonso in Valencia, but it was ok to beg the team for a position swap in Germany.

Unfortunately, the sport is full of such people..:-)

That may very well be true, even if there's a difference between covert or open orders within one team and the farce that was Valencia, but in all honesty Ferrari (note that I said Ferrari) tend to be much more up front with things like this. Ferrari in 2001-2002, just to bring two examples, used team orders openly and legally, without trying to hide behind "gentlemen's agreements" and other similar tactics to try to sugar coat things for the public. And unfortunately they tend to get punished for that honesty both through the perception of the public and through fines. Mclaren have used team orders just as much yet they feel comfortable making such hypocritical statements that are the topic of this thread, but more importantly they are fueling the public's opinions that Mclaren are the good noble guys and Ferrari are those dirty manipulators. For me this very fact, and it's really become part of the Mclaren culture, is what makes Mclaren, proven cheats, liars and hypocrites, just vile.

Ok then Lewis. Give the 2008 championship to Felipe. IMO still the best driver that year.

Clearly this is just a swipe at Fernando, because they see how strong he is looking now, and this is sort of pre-emptive sour grapes. If Fernando wins the title, they're already trying to diminish it any way they can. In the future I hope we see Lewis' picture in the dictionary next to the words arrogance, cheat, lie, and hypocrisy. And if a word is ever invented that describes a driver winning a champion soley on having a really fast car, and through no skill of their own, I hope we see Button's picture next to that word. Because even that has-been Rubens could win races in the Brawn.
