The return of team orders could see world champion Jenson Button exit Formula 1 prematurely.
Button was quoted Saturday by British media at the Italian Grand Prix as saying he could quit the sport over a decision by the ruling FIA to reinstate the banned regulation.
"I wouldn't quit straight away but it would definitely shorten my career," the 30-year-old Briton said. "While you are still fighting for the world championship it is very strange to me that a driver is told to move over. I don't understand that at all and I don't understand anyone in the sport who would want to race in those circumstances."
The governing body said Wednesday it would review the regulation after Ferrari used coded messages at the German GP to have Felipe Massa give way to teammate Fernando Alonso in the 1-2 finish. Ferrari escaped with a $100,000 fine.
Button trails McLaren teammate and overall F1 leader Lewis Hamilton by 35 points with six races left.
"I don't think it will be the same as what it is now," Button said of racing with team orders. "We have some great action between teammates -- it's great to have 24 guys fighting it and not 12."

Jens knows himself too that if the teamorders are legal, he'll never have a chance to race against Hamilton, not even seemingly..

Course he wont, what other top team would have him?
In terms of the championship, Button finishing infront of massa might have been better than a 1-2 for Ferrari, the reason is, the more points button takes off hamilton, the less chance Mclaren have of enforcing a number one driver, hopefully meanging their drivers will take points off each other right until the end of the season. Had Button dropped out and Hamilton finished second, Mclaren would have had Button support lewis, and no matter what button say in interviews, he would have followed orders.

Button obviously learning 'Ronspeak', already adapting to McLaren hypocrism. Just give him one more year and he will turn into a Ronbot.
'Will Button pass me?' 'No'
He already received those famous team orders. He should quit right away.

As the championship is coming closer, may be he is fearing & is indirectly telling Martin S#%it marsh “You see I m the defending champion, don’t you dare play team orders against me, else I’ll run away” :-)

Seems like he did not have a problem with team orders last year... can't be 100% sure but they must have had Rubins keep station at least once during the season.

As far as team orders go, am I the only one who thinks that when Vettel said he had an engine problem and let Webber by quickly, that it wasnt team orders thinly disguised?
Button is a good steady driver, I like him as long as he finishes behind the Ferrari's...:-D

That;ll be one weird team order cause vettel actually finished ahead of Webber. Maybe they let webber think that they are in fact supporting him with team orders, but turned the tables on him in the end. 'Take that you stupid man from down under' said Helmut marko. lol..

This sounds to me like Jenson doesn't believe that he can be a #1 driver. :-) If you're the #1 driver, you don't have to worry about having to move over for the other guy.

Jenson Button has said despite the relaxing of rules on team orders, he believes teams will think twice before forcing a driver to play second fiddle.
"I don't think it will happen, I really don't," he told Reuters at the McLaren press launch in Berlin. "I think they will realise that two drivers are better than one. For setting a car up you need two experienced drivers.
"If you are putting all your eggs in one basket, the other driver's not going to feel like giving you feedback, is he? He's not going to feel like pushing the car to the limit. He's not going to qualify well and he's not going to race well.
"If I had a team I would have both drivers having a fair shot at it because they are going to push each other hard.
"I hope that drivers are allowed to race fairly. You do all this hard work of getting to Formula One and fighting your way through the lower ranks and you arrive and you should be given fair treatment."
He added the affect on the driver forced to concede could be negative. In 2010 Felipe Massa was made to concede a race to Fernando Alonso and his form over the remainder of the season fell away markedly.
"You could say [team orders] are great because all the points go to one driver but the morale within the team must be terrible because one driver always knows he is on the back foot. It can't be positive for a team to be in that environment, to have one driver know that he's got to give a place up."
Button went on to say that even if he or Hamilton was closing in on the world title with the other out of contention, he hoped McLaren would not favour either of them.
"I am happy with the position that we have in the McLaren team with no team orders, it's the way it should be when you are both world champions. You both want to fight for a world championship again, you don't want to give each other an inch on the circuit."

Oh dear me Button's getting worried. Maybe he should ask for a year's secondment to Renault to cover for Bobby! :-)
There again maybe he should have stayed with Ross then probably a certain 7 times WDC may not have had a comeback.:-??

Yep, Button was wrong leaving Brawn.

So as long as it's in his benefit (as it was when he was at Brawn with Rubens), it's ok, but the second he has a driver more competitive, "I QUIT".
Heart of a champion.

Man he is clueless...Talk about bending the truth to fit what is in his head. Why would teams hesitate to use team orders? So they can watch a title slip away...They will pull the plug on him if he cannot keep up with Lewis.

Red Bull nearly did it to protect their principles (well, their favoured driver actually) so maybe it will become a trend where the favoured driver is lagging behind....

Well the thing is Redbull could afford to do it, given how superior their car was. And they almost lost the drivers title to us. it would have been interesting to see if they would have taken the same approach had we or macca been neck to neck with them on speed on every track.

No need to worry for Jenson as Hammy has just stated he will never change his "style" of driving which means he will have to do about 12 stops every race this year to get new tyres.....

The team orders argument will run and run, remember the Michael and Rubens days, in reality there have always been team orders they have just being hidden so it will be good to have it out in the open might make the drivers within the teams more competitive so watch for explosions

His career is order now he just does not realize it. He has won his only championship.
