View Full Version : Alonso puts faith in new Ferrari upgrade

Fernando Alonso is confident Ferrari can take the fight to Red Bull over the course of the next two races.

The Red Bull has been well suited to tight and twisty circuits this year, excelling in Monaco and Hungary, and is expected to be the class of the field in both Singapore and Japan.

Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber head into this weekend's race as the favourites to win but Alonso believes a significant upgrade to the floor of the Ferrari should mean it is quick no matter what the circuit characteristics.

"We now have a package that should work on all types of circuits," the Spaniard is quoted by Auto Motor und Sport. "We know Red Bull will be very strong at the next two circuits, but we should now be more consistent than we were before. Consistency is the key to this title."

However, team boss Stefano Domenicali said the team has to make sure the updates work straight out of the box, after ones used at Spa Francorchamps didn't offer their full potential until the Italian Grand Prix.

"We need to avoid a repeat of what happened in Belgium, where our developments failed to give us what we expected because we weren't able to test them," he said. "It's impossible to predict what will happen because there are so many variables at play."

He confirmed that the F10's next developments are "aerodynamic" in nature, situated "at the bottom of the car".

another quote from motorsport.com

"The next step, to be seen for the first time in Singapore this weekend, is a further integration of the diffuser and the gearbox and how the exhaust gases are directed through the rear bodywork".

I know every race is key for the title but I think Singapore is absolutely vital. I have a feeling... I don't know if it is good or bad just yet. :pray

If Alonso can do well on this track, I think he will grab the WDC :-)

look at it this way.. at some point, almost everyone here had lost hope. It looked like another failed season. But how quickly it has turned and now there is a ray of hope... of WDC.. and with a lil luck WCC too. No need to panic... we can only win from here. :cflag

I don't really know. :lol

Too much reading about Singapore GP, weather forecast, race suspension, Safety Cars, engine usage, new parts... My head hurts a bit... :lol

I have a feeling, I don't know whether it's good or bad... As Tifoso said it could be a boost for Alonso and Ferrari if they win there. :pray

I see this: Fernando now knows for sure it is not over yet and that he is getting stronger. He feels it can be done and that makes him sharp and as fast as a hungry cheetah.
So if the upgrades work we will see the real Alonso , hunting them and ......catching them.

i know we're supposed to have a new front wing for singapore, as someone mentioned possibly one of these:

but are we ever gonna use this one, the one we used in Hungary??? it seems that this one has 3 planes and if my memory served me right
it used to gives us quite an amount of downforce:

apart from the upgrades, i think the tire allocations are medium and supersoft ( correct me if im wrong ) and should suit ferrari, particularly felipe?

The flexing test was upgraded after Hungary - so, it would depend if that wing can pass the tougher flexing test.

Hang on--so, essentially: we have updates but we're at 50-50 whether they'll work come this next race or not, no? The testing ban needs to go. Jeez.

The cars will line up with modifications mainly on the aerodynamic side, with updates to the front wing and the floor.

There will also be a further integration of the diffuser and the gearbox and how the exhaust gases are directed through the rear bodywork.

no new rear wing then?

We just have to hope that the parts work straight out of the box - we can't afford another Spa weekend. The no testing rule has caught most people out at some point this year - McLaren with their blown diffuser, Mercedes with their F-Duct, Ferrari with their new aero configuration in Spa. Fingers crossed it's all working nicely in Singapore, for us at least. :-)

wich kinda makes the whole rule look dumb, i belief they should at least alter the rule and have some testdays by choice or on fixed dates.

back on topic : i really hope the updates work as intended, so far we've had a season filled with dissapointment and bad luck. to see us grab the WDC now, would be the perfect turnaround

Agree the test ban should be limited to a few days not completely relying on simulations.
Although having said that this would give EJ ammunition for ranting about "COSTS"
I think JEAN TODT should just stamp his authority and say "3 weeks in season testing" one in the first 3rd of the season (after the first fly aways). another just mid way, and one just after monza.

COME ON FIA!!! SORT IT OUT!
