View Full Version : Hamilton - "No value in beating Schumacher anymore"

Perhaps the pressure is getting to Lewis, but why make a statement like this, and in Germany, to me it just seems tasteless and disrespectful.

Hamilton's comment on MS (https://www.f1sa.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=25191:f1-lewis-hamilton-no-value-in-my-beating-michael-schumacher-anymore&catid=1:f1&Itemid=157)

Lewis Hamilton has admitted it is no longer a special feeling to beat seven time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher.

When the 41 year old German announced his return to Formula 1 for 2010, McLaren driver Hamilton said it will be "an honour and privilege" to go wheel to wheel with one of his childhood heroes.

"He is one of the sport's greatest competitors, a legend, it will be great to compete against him," said the 2008 World Champion, whose Formula 1 career began the season after Schumacher initially retired four years ago.

"It doesn't matter whether I win or lose. The fact I will be able to drive alongside Schumacher is something I can carry all my life," added Hamilton.

But 15 races into Schumacher's difficult comeback, the 25 year old Briton admits the thrill has gone.

"In the beginning I was very excited about his comeback," Hamilton is quoted by TZ newspaper during a recent visit to Germany.

"But now it's not the same because he is mostly racing behind me. In this respect there is no value in my beating him," he revealed.

Lewis is never boring is he? :lol

Sadly, he is correct this time as well.

Harsh, but maybe more honest than when he said "It doesn't matter whether I win or lose. The fact I will be able to drive alongside Schumacher is something I can carry all my life,".

I do not see why winning or losing should have any bearing on the experience of going toe to toe with Schumacher though?

ask Rubens:-D, even in Hunagarian, he will know the answer

now, should that or a similar thing happen to Luise, I think Martin Luther King would start marching again;-)

Maybe more of a topic for McLaren and Mercedes fans :-D

I mean that was a pure PR speech saying what the public wants to hear. He clearly wants to win, and probably he would prefer to face lesser rivals and win clearly than face tough opposition such as Schumy in his prime and fail. At least from what we know of Hungary 2007 when he reportedly took Alonso's extra lap and with liegate Trulli's 3rd place, he seems to have a past of enjoying unfair advantage over rivals.
The latest one though, I feel is more cocky and harsh, but at the same time more genuine and less PR oriented.

No value in reading Ramster's comments anymore maybe?

:lol:lol:lol

Maybe Schumi will read this and decide to give the kid a driving lesson or two, kinda like he did Rubens earlier at Hungary.

He also called Red Bull cheaters.

http://www.motorsport.com/news/article.asp?ID=389117&FS=F1

The 2008 world champion said that after the team's RB6 utterly dominated in Hungary in August, the tighter FIA flexibility tests have obviously affected the pace of the Adrian Newey-penned car.

"Good question," McLaren driver Hamilton told Bild newspaper on a visit to Berlin this week.

"In Hungary they were 2 seconds per lap faster than the rest of us. It is simply impossible to have a lead like that."

When asked specifically if he thinks Red Bull were cheating earlier in 2010, Hamilton answered: "We have always kept to the rules.

"Our people wondered if their car was legal and we asked the FIA. After that Red Bull had to rebuild their car and take a step back.

"It was a good decision by the FIA," said the Briton.

I don't understand this part from the above interview

He was also asked about the apparent psychological warfare being deployed by his championship rivals at present, particularly by his former McLaren teammate Fernando Alonso.

"It's normal that, at the end of a season, the mind games begin. I'm strong enough and ready for it. I'm not worried, but I think it's best if you just do your talking on the track," said Hamilton.

What the heck has Alonso said or done to be considered "psychological warfare" other than kick their butts the last two races. And apparently Hamilton is saying on track that he is going to crash away a championship this year. I hope Webber and Schumi both punt him off.

Nothing. Just that Hamilton is trying to play 'mindgames' and he has never been very good at that...

I believe he is referring to the unfair advantage that Alonso has over him in actually having a brain to do psycholgical warfare with. :-)

The boy has no class he is a bum, a lot like the character Tommy Gunn in Rocky five.

The similarities are remarkable, both Lewis and the films Tommy Gunn.

MS is more like the character Rocky, earned his way to the top, then in his twilight years being mocked by a puppet champion with no class and few outside Mclaren like.

Lewis is not beating Michael. It's a McLaren (good car) beating a Mercedes (crap). I'd like to see Michael next season with a decent wheel in the hands.

And would be funny to watch what Lewis could do with a machinery identical to Michael's one.

It might be factual but it's still A VERY CHEAP SHOT tho why should anyone expect
anything better from Hamilton? I too would like to see MS get his pound of flesh outta
this jerk's rear end-or rear end this jerk?

This is my main problem with Lewis. he talks too much. If he spent half the energy actually driving that is used for saying things like 'we've got the best car' and stuff, he would almost be as good as what his fanboys describe him to be. he is talking about a 7 time world champion in this way? have some respect. you're beating a 7 time world champion!

Then there are the constant Senna comparisons. this boy needs a reality check, and that is hopefully what Fernando will be.

i have great respect for MS and was a fan of him. mc laren definitely has a better car than merc right now and that says a lot why luis says MS is racing behind him. id love to see MS teach this guy a lesson on track and would enjoy it so much. sadly, MS cant even get by Nico who has the same machinery he does. having said that, id say luis' statement that beating MS is not as valuable as before. he did get my eyebrow up though for such a disrespectful statement. shouldve just shut his mouth up about it like everyone else who expected more from MS. somebody please ram a foot into lewser's mouth...

and what if all of this is being blown out of context by some MS hating website as usual? Look at his comments the other way. What if what Lewis means is that with Michael's current form and equipment this year makes it senseless to boast about overtaking him on the track? I actually believe he is saying that with Schumi's current performance levels there is nothing to be happy about when one beats him. It's like racing a 100m sprint with Sterling Moss and boasting about it! No news there.
We all know that the Schumi of the Ferrari days would be a hard ass task to beat. Luckily for us we have the only one that managed to do so driving one of our red cars.

Even if Lewey was right - and maybe he is - you just do not say something like this about a man who has achieved more than you will ever be able to. (and I don't even like Schumacher)
Hamster just hasn't the brains to understand what he is really saying.......and that's not the first time and it will not be that last too.
The same lack of intelligence always makes him tell lies that are so obvious to to everyone else...........

I am NOT a Hamilton supporter, however I feel the need to defend him here. In my opinion his words can be seen in two ways:

1. Itīs so easy to beat Schumacher, he is no longer a good driver who is worthy to be called an equal rival.

2. I am beating Schumacher, but his car is so crappy I cannot be proud about that fact since we donīt have equal chances and I am sorry I am not able to meassure myself with him because of this fact.

IMO he isn't talking about the car.

Sticks in my throat but............Hamilton is right.

BIG mistake for MS to come back..........he thought the 'Brawn' would be a competitve as last year - if he knew it would get so left behind I'm sure he wouldn't have bothered. He's stuck between a rock and a hard place now.........does he quite or keep plodding around at the back - either way his reputation is getting a battering.

Too right. He's team mate is outclassing him. IMO, he's tainted his achievements with Ferrari. Punch drunk boxer!
