Vietnam could be the next country vying to join the ever-growing Formula One calendar.

Hans Geist, linked in the past with F1 forays in Russia, Austria and Bahrain, has proposed a $150 million project to Vietnam's ministry of planning and investment. The proposal is for a Formula One circuit to be located near Nha Trang Bay in central Khanh Hoa province, according to vietnamvet.vn.

"The dynamic economy of Vietnam and tourism potential are good reasons for building a circuit here," said Geist.

He did not say when the proposal would move forwards but the report said construction would take three years.

"Formula one with more than 200 global brand partners will guarantee a professional business communication for Vietnam and its international recognition," added Geist. "It will certainly stimulate Vietnam's economy, tourism and infrastructure."

The dynamic economy of Vietnam and tourism potential

Never thought that'd be a good reason to build an F1 track somewhere.

Seems like a tiny budget to build an F1 circuit. Korea was nearly double that.

Can't believe anyone would even consider this.

A great place to visit, but, it's not the easiest place to get into, I mean visa's etc. just not a friendly process. I can't imagine where the circuit would be, most probably Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) but traffic is horrendous and, unless you have motor-bike you may as well walk.

New ashphalt and a few chicanes and the Ho Chi Minh Trail can come alive with F1 cars screaming past!

It's unbeleivable how just about every country in the world wants to host a F1 race, I can't blame them, but i think that first come, first serve, how about we don't drop western europe and americas since that's been where F1 has always been, apart from that only japan and australia has had some history in F1. I'm not saying don't go, but if your gonna cut, then get rid of singapure at night, valencia...

France had no race... i mean come on....

More and more I'm becoming convinced that the next step would be having some 26 races a season, having some sort of twin race system.

The twin race system in short would be, 2 races in 2 weekends, in 2 countries that are you know, neighbors, say we will have this weekend f1 in bahrein and next weekend in abu dhabi, say we will have this weekend in japan and next weekend in china, this system will work even better when it goes to europe, and since there's not much time for testing... might as well race race race...
