View Full Version : How many wins will determine the Champion?

I think that this is a great point for debate/discussion!
In such a tightly wound championship every point is more crucial than ever.

Whitmarsh seems to think that 2 wins might be enough (see: http://m.espnf1.com/s/3394/116?teamName=top_news&newsDetails=true&storyNo=81612).
I don't know if that would be the case per se but at the same time I do think that 4 wins might be enough as the field is all bunched up and consistency will be well rewarded.

Fernando will have an ever evolving Ferrari car race after race so I do believe that objectively he has a 60% chance to win the championship.
With regards to constructors, I like Felippe too much to speculate!
Forza Ferrari!

Fernando will be champion with 5 or 6 wins. We will go close to taking the WCC at the last race.

Consistency is the key, IMO.
We can have the title with no wins but with 15 or 17 or 19 consecutive 2nd or 3rd places.
Can we be on podium in every race. That's the most important.:wave

1 or 2 wins and podiums would maybe be enough.

Currently I believe there are still 5 drivers out there, given the opportunity and some luck, capable of a win. ;-)
If that were to happen this season we will have 12 different race winners.
So yes 2 race wins "could" secure the WDC along with a few podiums & some high positions.
Exciting isn't it????? :-D
Oh I just love F1

I think any driver with 3-4 wins could win the title if he is reaching the podium with frequency. I think is inevitable that some driver will win some races in a row, let's hope is a red man.

For a driver having regular good results 2-3 wins may be enough. Otherwise maybe 5-6.

If Ferrari continues to upgrade their car and Fernando keeps going all out, I believe he has an excellent chance to be the next champion. 5 years is too long to have someone not win in a Ferrari. :-)

I'd say 4 wins could be enough for the title.

If I were a betting man (and I am), 4 is the needed number this year. A really consistent podium man might also nab the WDC with even 3 wins.

If there is trend like it was in past seven races, that different drivers are taking wins, I will be brave and say that maybe, just maybe one win will be enought if FA is finishing races on podium constantly. To be on safe side I would prefer that FA take as much as possible wins he can. Still it is not late to brake record of most race wins in season :-)

the WDC will win 4 races this year

Fernando will have to win several times to beat Hamilton or Vettel to WDC. My guess 3 or 4 wins in the remaining 13 races so together with Sepang 4 or 5 wins.

Consistent Podiums, 1 win (Malaysian GP) is enough.

Something Fernando is more than capable of doing

I don't believe 1 win will do the job. Firstly the points differential between a win and 2nd is too big, secondly there are probably more Hamilton/Vettel wins to come in the rest of the championship.

"Consistent Podiums" - I think it is most important this year since wins would be shared among plenty of drivers out there..

That is actually an unknown that matters. I believe there will not be many different winners in the second half of the WC. HAM starts to beat BUT, VET beats WEB, there can be a 3 way battle as Domenicali predicts.

WDC battle might become a 3 way fight but I don't think we will not see different winners apart from these three. We shall see but, I still maintain that most Podium finishes is the key to the title.

I think 3 or 4 wins along with a string of consistent podium finishes is what we're looking at.

WDC will come down to a straight fight between Fernando and Lewis, as I see it.

Our strong point in the late years was the second half of the championship.
IMO it's to close to call.
More than ever this year every point is so valuable that can't be loose.
So no stupid mistakes must be made and try to have both our cars on podium in every race.

Usually it's around 5. But there are the examples of Rosberg winning the title with only 1 win (1982) while Massa lost it with 6 wins (should have been 8 really).

I'd go for Alonso with 4 wins, and maybe without pole positions? :Hmm

If we see where we were in the beginning of 2012 and where we are now it's very possible to have enough poles till the end.

If Nando keeps up the current level of consistency and if we dont suffer a DNF at any point, a couple of wins more should seal the deal.

I'm actually kind of hoping Alonso wins the title without one... he would make Vettel & co look average

Kimi and Schumi will both probably win one race at least..
Valencia might be Schumi's race.. And Spa Kimi's..

…I second your thoughts; how about Fernando wins the next four races: Valencia, Silverstone, Hockenheim and Budapest just to seal the deal with a good streak of wins before the summer holiday; I think that would be more than enough to win the title with consistant podiums thereafter.

That would be a Fantastic way to please us FANS, wouldn’t it???

Forza Ferrari and Fernando.

we need consistent podium throughout the championship and alonso (like he showed even in 2011) is capable of delivering that and with the F2012 improving all the time.. it is looking quite good for wins in the coming races.. the best thing to ever say about ferrari is, they make cars which r suitable for 17 or 18 of the circuits in the calendar today and that makes for the consistency.. unless the drivers make an error.. it looks like we got a handle on this years championship :)

Niether one drives for FERRARI so I hope for Kimi to finish a strong 17th, and the chin to continue towards breaking the record for DNFs and not finish the race. On the other hand Massa will probably win at least one race maybe two. Her's doing better each time out.

less than ?

I said 4 wins is plenty to become WDC.
I know mathematically you could probably win the wdc without any race victory

I'm just being realistic.. They will probably win a race.. then thats like 9 winners / 9 races or so.. left overs are for the champions taking.. probably 3 wins will determine this years champion..

put a number on it

If the races turn out to be a lottery as Alonso said, then 3 to 4 races should be enough to edge out ahead in the championship provided regular podiums are achieved. So Alonso, Lewis and Seb are on the right path to battle it out.

Vettel and Red Bull will keep everybody on there toes with 3 wins, but Alonso will take it with 6 or more. Our car has to get better each race, the pit boys are alive and well, and Alonso, well he's already the best for trhe job.

I thought this was a good time to revive this thread...
I still stick with Fernando needing 1 or 2 more wins.
Hamilton needs considerably more.

Rishu
23rd September 2012, 17:13
Hamilton has potential to win all remaining, which would then require Alonso to finish P2 in every race. I would say if he can win 2 more, we have the title in the bag.

4-5 for Alonso so 1 or 2 more, 3 more for Vettel, and Hamiltin needs about 4-5 more wins.

At least 1 or 2 wins more from Alonso, Brazil for Felipe :thumb

The competition can share the rest of 3 among themselves. I am not greedy. :-P

Hope it ends that way. We will then have the WDC

SoumyaBanerjee

I think 1-2 more wins for each of the chief protagonists(ALO,VET)...The lotus doesnt have the pace atm to challenge for wins, but the "device" might make a difference at Suzuka, and i sure hope it does...even if VET finishes 3-6 points ahead of ALO in the next couple of races,it might not hamper our man's chances that much, but him winning another race could really make things difficult, given the F2012's performances of late....HAM will probably have to win atleast 3 more and count on unreliability/other misfortune to hold back ALO and VET....

In remaining six races FA needs to win at least once, but it would be better to do it twice and to finish remaining four races on podium. That would be enough to win WDC!

I'm thinking the same thing, 2 more wins & podium finishes should do it
