Which is better in terms of strategy- soft, soft, hard, or, soft, hard, soft. If it is a 2- stopper race, that is?

I don't think the soft will last too much, maybe medium-medium-soft or soft-medium-medium to have a better start.

Go Grosjean and Go Maldonado, we need this guys on the podium or winning to help us.

Should be Hard-Soft-Soft. We can definitely afford a gamble today!

Won't be long till that Red Bull will make toast out of it's tyres. Just hope that Hamy will keep up with Vettel and provide us with a collision.

Ferrari starting on primes would result in RB , Maccas and Lotus opening a bigger gap which would be impossible to close later. So, soft tyres at the beginning seems adequate decision.

24th June 2012, 09:49
I don't see us making places by passing, so i'd say we should go on mediums for most of the time. If we get a train going on at the front we'll be there to abuse it. And besides, we were pretty much the best on mediums in Q1. This will probably result in the top 2 or top 3 pulling quite a gap from us, but we're sadly not racing here for the win mates.

Corey
24th June 2012, 09:51
We'll do the softs when the fuel loads are low then we can get more out of it. Who cares if the gap opens up before the 1st stops, retiring cars and an SC will bring everything back to us. The heavy fuel load wears the soft tyres down quicker anyway.

Biggest question is can we pass other cars at this track?

If we cannot, then the only way is to start with the prime tires and go as long as possible, to pass the cars in front through pit stop strategy.

sav_pap
24th June 2012, 10:21
Alonso said that pole in Valencia is not a big matter. But 11th is too far back in the grid to hope for something good. I assume we are in a damage limitation mode again this weekend instead of fighting for victory.

Our car is not superior enough to overtake in this track.

I agree, start on a new set of the mediums while every car infront of us are on worn softs, the weight of fuel will dictate every car ahead of us will have to pit earlier than Fernando, we just need to be there or there abouts, the track surface is pretty abrasive here, (the GP2 race had tires falling off before the end of the race) so think we'll have to two stop, so mediums again and would think a final stint on low fuel and softs would make most sense...
The big worry is the SC coming out early if we haven't pitted and other cars have, but that's the gamble... :-)

Greig
24th June 2012, 10:30
Agreed, medium/medium/soft would seem the way to go, as Tobes said though the big risk is SC but you can't really account for that. Hopefully our pace keeps us in touch :-)

I don't think it's an inferior car, it's all about the tires, the cars that qualified in the top ten did so on soft tires and with a 38° track temp, during the GP2 race this morning it was already 40°, going to be 50° by the time we race, those cars ahead will chew through there part worn softs early on, really think we've got a good shout for a podium today... :-)

Sorry i hadn't noticed the "overtaking trought pitstop strategy"

It won't be solely based on pitstop strategy, the final stint on light fuel and soft tires should give us the opportunity to overtake on track towards the end, much like others did to us in Canada... :-)

I'd rather have a car that can compete with others in the dry as the majority of races are generally run in dry conditions. Relying on rain is a cop out!

Lotus and sauber are very easy with there tyres and they will be the ones can do long stint, they will outlast our tyres no problem...but there's a down side to them is, it takes them awhile to get heat into there tyres. Because the temp is still hot it help's them for sure, but i guarantee you this that they will take at least 4 to 5 laps until they start picking up pace. And that's alot of time for alonso to pass them, but he has to push the first stint...because it will be alot of lock-ups by lotus and sauber first stint. But if he pass them at the start its even better for us, it's much harder to pass them when there tyres are up to temp because these two team's got top speeds. I still think lotus are the ones to watch out for.

You hit the nail on the head there my friend, but don't forget lotus and sauber they out last everybody's tyres the last race with a 1 stopper and still setting good times right to the end, and your right we still have a shot at the the podium if we play our card's right from the get go. There's a high chance lotus and sauber will go for a 1 stopper this race again...which will work out better for us.

Absolutely agree, the surface at Canada is far less abrasive than here so hoping Lotus and Sauber do go for a one stop, if track temps hit 50° (as predicted) wouldn't think either Lotus or Sauber could manage a one stop...
