Wonder how many people turned off their TV halfway through, or even watched at all after seeing the qualifying result. Sadly for the last few races, the appeal just isn't there with the title fight over, and what appears to be a common pattern where Vettel wins uncontested.

Vettel winning all the time doesn't bother me - as a Schumacher fan during his time at Ferrari it would be hypocritical of me to moan about the current RBR domination. It's the fact that drivers are being told NOT to push that is putting me off F1. Along with pay drivers getting plum seats, drivers being penalised for celebrating, classic tracks being dumped in favour of races in countries that don't have a solid fanbase.

We can moan all we like about Sebastian Vettel 'ruining' F1 - he is absolutely not the main problem it has.

I have to agree..If I hear one more driver say that he has to save or conserve his tires, I'll turn the channel.
I remember the US GP years ago when young Vettel driving a BMW finished 8th in his 1st F1 race. I knew then he was going to be good.
Too bad its not a Ferrari. Now I see Hulk and Bottas as the good new guys.

Every time the fia changes rules to make more passing, or races more competitive, theres no passing...Instead of watching guys pass and dice, I have to see who will get out of the pits b4 the other guy. F1 needs something...

Yeah I agree that Vettel's dominance is not a problem in the sport. I just think that for the general viewers, people tend to get turned off by the lack of racing at the front, be it Vettel or anyone else. Seeing the same car pulling away at the front every week, it's just not fun to watch. Nothing wrong in terms of competition as they did a better job, but it's not something the general viewers enjoy watching.

So we can't blame Vettel for winning, but we also cannot blame the viewers for changing the channel to something more entertaining.

Corey
18th November 2013, 04:09
Some fans ultimately changes the channel, others (such as diehards) don't. The reason is simply the fact that surprises may happen despite how boring the race appears to be, Silverstone this year is an apt example. What I usually do on a boring race (like today's) is to take out my laptop or anything else that allows myself to multi task while keeping F1 on the TV at the same time, and only turn my eyes back to to full focus on the screen whenever there's the occasional drama such as crashes, Red Bull in trouble etc. Nowadays it is kind of impossible to sit through the entire race straight only looking at the screen and not having to look for any other form of entertainment

That's because Ferrari stopped trying to run in this year's development race when it became apparent by the end of the European tour that the titles are practically in Red Bull's bag. So yeah, naturally other teams are going to overtake us.

As Martin Brundle said yesterday, by the end of next weekend, these will be all scrap metal. Sure Ferrari could beat Sauber by continue developing this year's car, but what's the point. Our season ended when we lost the title. Anything that happens after that doesn't mean much anymore.

If Ferrari could stop attending races and spend the time testing our 2014 car, I'm sure the team would do that. We can't of course, but the development guys back at the factory can, and that's what they have been doing.;-)

Have to agree with Suzie and Hornet, this race was a joke if it was supposed to promote F1 in the US, compared to what they're used to with NASCAR, it just isn't racing in the true sense. Tyre choice was too conservative and the race became a procession very quickly with the odd good move to keep us awake. Fernando did all he could and Felipe for whatver reason just didn't/couldn't extract himself from the midfield and the final stop was the last straw. What a depressing and frustrating race for him and for us, Fernando just about held it together but we're now looking to Brazil and I fear that Felipe's last race with us may be a happy release for him. It sucks.:-s

"Your dear Felipe.."? Oh you misstated surely, you mean Ferraris' dear Felipe... till after Brazil. Yup, what about him? Read the words of Luca, Stefano, Pat, Fernando & the tech team about what they think of him before saying more. They know the reason for the point deficit better than anyone, including you. So hold your jeers.

Here's what Fernando said of the race (edited)...
"Finishing in the top five today is a very positive result when you consider how difficult this weekend has been.... In the first part of the race, we weren't quick and we decided to save the tyres and then attack round the pit stop... but even if our situation compared to Mercedes has improved, we were unable to beat them. I am very proud of this second place in the drivers’ Championship, it’s a small reward for me, the same as being first of the “mortals” behind Red Bull ... We really must improve there, because our goal is still to finish second in the constructor’s championship”

This comes from a man who is peerless among us mere supporters, he is our lead Ferrari driver, a man more than worthy of his status. Note, he does not knock his team or team mate after a less than stellar weekends result. What makes you think that you can throw your panties on this stage & then douche the rest of our Scuderia Ferrari? The entire team makes Ferrari & that is who Tifosi support here, 1st, then our preferred driver with a lot of respect for Ferraris' choice of the other driver.
Follow the lead of other Alonso (mainly) supporters like e.g. Alonsomaniac, he still shows respect to Massa & Ferraris choice of him being a Ferrari driver until after Brazil. Alonsomaniac is true Tifosi who ... is a loyal supporter of his driver & mimics his heros' attitude, of supporting Ferrari firstly! Respekt!

Again... without being privy to all that goes on in the car on track & the factory and you think, we (Ferrari), are only worthy of 3rd or 4th. Keep your pessimism to yourself. If Fernando believes 2nd is possible in this Ferrari (i.e. the 2nd best car on the grid !) ... as a Tifosi & supporter of Ferraris' choices, I support our drivers belief. All supporters of SF are very passionate. This forum is for them. Get with the theme of this forum & show respect to all of Enzos' legacy, one of the best brands in the world - Ferrari, as a team.

The biggest paradox in modern Formula One is that everybody has the same tyres, but then they are allowed a certain degree of freedom with regards to aerodynamics, engine mapping, etc.

And the biggest paradox in modern Formula One circuits is that they have the longest straights, but still nobody is able to overtake.

Dear Ealdfrith,

I am a amazed that you are an F1 fan at all, your simplistic attitude totally ignores the complexity of this sport.

Before making such bold statements have you assessed the results properly ?

Were the 2 crashes you mention totaly down to Felipe's driving ?

How many times this year has Felipe's races been ruined by having to run the "Alternative" strategy or just bad strategy calls.

How good would your motivation be if you were told that no matter well your race was going you would have to give your place up to a No1 driver.

You have a short memory with regard to the good races he has had this year despite the above.

THis years car has been a dog with little successful developement achieved through out the year and appears to be very difficult to set up during practice.

Yes Fernando is an exceptional driver and very glad he is in our team, next year we pin our hopes on Kimi lets see what he offers in comparison with Felipe in terms of loyalty and performance. ( I hear the Ice cream machine has been banned for next year ;-) )

Take care my friend we are Ferrari fans and I for one will defend to the death any of our team who have given good service to the Marque.

You are not the first person that I have seen making the point that Massa tries harder versus Alonso than versus other drivers; in some occasions even I have wondered the same.

But even if that were the case, let's remember one thing: Alonso is, in the eyes of his fellow drivers, the one that sets the standard in the current grid. From what I can remember, every single driver who has been asked about it has said that a head-to-head with Alonso represents an extra challenge and an extra motivation. Also because, being known as a fair driver on track, they feel safer trying hard than if they were facing, say, Maldonado. Why would Massa be different in that?

Furthermore, I know from a former fellow forumer in some other board, who was a Brazilian journalist, that the pressure Massa has been under since Alonso joined the team has been quite extreme, in some cases way beyond the line (for example after Germany 2010). Massa and Alonso had their arguments before they became teammates (Germany 2007), but I am sure that first it wasn't as serious as journalistst tried to present it and second they did their best to recover their relationship afterwards; but from what this Brazilian guy explained to me, at home (I mean Brazil, not Massa's family) they made it as difficult as possible for Massa, in the sense that they kept on repeating that he should avoid becoming Alonso's journeyman and would jump at any perceived hint that such was the case.

And finally, let's be honest: every time that Alonso and Massa come close on track, the eyes of the F1 world (and not just Brazil) is on them and not precisely looking on them with kindness...

I for one don't blame Massa for trying hard against Alonso; I don't think that such attitude has caused Ferrari any major problems on the WCC (sadly the team is now behind Merc and Lotus, and that shows); and I don't think that Massa gives up and dilutes once Alonso gets past him, only that the cameras suddenly lose interest in him.

As many have said here, Massa has proved his loyalty to Ferrari well beyond doubt. If Alonso or the team were fighting for WDC or WCC you can bet he would be playing ball; but that is not the case, so let him be.
