View Full Version : If Ferrari power unit was not competitive for 2015 season
AfterLife

This is just a statistical survey.
If Ferrari were unable to sort out power unit problems efficiently for the 2015 season and other manufacturers power unit were so much better than Ferrari power unit . . .
Do you want Ferrari to use non Ferrari power unit?
Please vote and share your opinion. Thank you :-)

Dude, are you serious? You're suggesting that we, Ferrari, should use a non-Ferrari engine?! Ferrari with a non Ferrari engine?? Seriously? If our engine isn't the best, we make the best, that's our goal, and we will support or team in doing so. My opinion on this: every person that thinks we should use a non-Ferrari engine is stupid and definitly not a Ferrari fan, therefore, don't give your opinion on this forum

It doesn't matter if the engine is competitive or not, Ferrari has been using and will always keep using it's own engines, and that's the way it must remain, no matter what. It would be really stupid to even think otherwise. So the answer is a resounding NO!!!

Ferrari is NOT Ferrari with someone else's power! This tradition
should NEVER be broken, neither should Ferrari drop out of F1
even temporarily. They've always taken their knocks and should
continue to do so, however embarrassingly, until they return to
winning. Other teams have that "luxury" but it should never be an
option for Ferrari.

So 23.08% of the poll takers think we should leave F1 after this season if we can't field a winning PU...
really?
Exactly what would that accomplish, ease the shame that you feel?
Some people amaze me, they let a car race ruin their well being when they have no more stake in Ferrari than being a fan.
I don't say this to belittle anyone, just to make you think! Yeah, it is saddening, sometimes maddening when our beloved red cars are performing poorly, but it is not the end of the world for us.
To those 6 who voted for Ferrari to leave F1 after this season, will you stop coming to this forum if Ferrari continue in 2015 without having a "sorted PU"?

Why Merc would sell their engine to RedBull? My guess is, that RedBull wait and see what Honda can do before they change their engine. And if Honda will be good, they'll pick Honda for 2016.

How you win is more important than winning itself. A victory for Ferrari with a non-Ferrari engine would be a hollow one.
Using an outsourced engine would be an insult to our founder and our heritage, not to mention very damaging to the Ferrari brand. This should be obvious to any casual F1 fan let alone a FERRARI FAN. If winning is so important to some people they can always change there allegiance, this is more sensible than to suggest that Ferrari abandon it's traddition and self respect.

Ferrari are not just an F1 team but also an engine and car manufacturer. Adopting a non-Ferrari engine in a Ferrari car would damage the brand. Also, you've got to look at the cost structure. It can be much cheaper building your own engine rather than outsourcing it. Ferrari are the only team that is not reliant totally on the WCC income stream because of its share in F1 it can afford to go on in F1 without having to necessarily be the best in order to earn more WCC points thus more income. Which also means Ferrari can stay in this game and survive at least on this model.
However, never say never. Things can change if cost/income structure changes and/or the ownership model changes. Presently, Ferrari is owned by the Fiat group but there is no certainty that they will continue to be the owners. Should the Ferrari business group by sold and transferred to another owner such as Mercedes we may end up seeing Mercedes branded engines on Ferrari cars. There may be opposition to this by Ferrari but big companies usually get their way with these things especially if they own you. It is definitely possible. It doesn't matter what a fan wants. These things are out of our hands. At the moment the balance sheet of Ferrari is strong but this makes it even more attractive to potential predators. I would like to see Ferrari continue doing what it's doing for as long as possible. Our tradition of participating in F1 is at the very heart of what it means to be Ferrari.

I'm saying NEVER! The current owners of Ferrari (Fiat and Piero Ferrari) would most certainly rather let Ferrari go bankrupt than to see it being bought by Merc or any other foreign car company. Ferrari is so much more than just a car company, it's a symbol and pride of Italy and it's completely unimaginable that it could ever be sold to some foreign car company. If Enzo Ferrari didn't sell the company to Ford in 1969 then there's absolutely no way it can happen now or ever. If anything is at all certain on this planet, then it's that Ferrari will always remain an Italian car company and Ferrari will NEVER put some other car company's engine on their cars. That is 100% certain!

I have been a fan of Ferrari since the Schumacher days, why? Because they were WINNERS!! The Italian marque is legendary. I cannot imagine a Ferrari without its own engine, never has been and should never, ever be powered by anything else. I might not be as long time a Ferrari fan as all you guys who've supported them for decades, but we all know superior quality when we see/hear/feel it. Ferrari is its own brand, there is nothing quite like it, period.
I'm sure they will eventually pull themselves out of this hole they've put themselves in, big learning curve for everyone I think, just looks like others have got the jump on them at the moment, disappointing for Alonso I'm sure, but honestly Formula 1 without Ferrari........are you kidding me????

Well, I decided after some thought to register a vote, for option #1 I'm proud to say!
I still find it incredulous that 17 people here voted for Ferrari either quitting F1 completely or using an outsourced engine, so my question to those still remains, will you switch your loyalties to a different (winning) team next year if (in your mind) Ferrari are still lacking? (Not saying you should or calling you a troll, not trying to insult, just honestly wondering)
My love from the start as a fan of F1 was Ferrari cars with Ferrari engines. Without being melodramatic, I think I can safely say this will not change for me... ever.
Sure there are other cars/drivers that I might root for a little here or there, even be a little happy if they manage a win, I don't even feel like a traitor too much! But always in the end... IT IS ALL ABOUT THE RED CARS!

I agree. That is why there are so many Man utd fans in the world and also explains the huge increase in Man City fans these days. Oh well I will stick with blackburn rovers. A team is for life not just for christmas lol
Sorry for going off topic Bertie but Blackburn Rovers is my favourite football club of the UK :-D I have been to the Rovers in Ewood Park by bus from the Netherlands with my favourite football club NAC Breda to see a friendly match between the two teams. Maybe you can remember that? :-)

I'm telling the truth. This thread is utterly stupid, no doubt about it, and if you were a real Ferrari fan then you would know how stupid and degrading this thread actually is. I tell you what, if you really can't understand how humiliating this thread is to Ferrari, then go to Monza this year and ask the Tifosi there what they think of your idea of Ferrari starting to use merc engines, then you'll see exactly how idiotic and pathetic this thread is.
No no.. the right place to ask this question is Maranello. I dare him to try that. I 'd like to see him do that and survive. :)

never ever cross the mind of sane tifosi for Ferrari to use other power plant other than Ferrari's. It's like letting your girl friend to bed with other men because you cannot satisfy her. Train, exercise, eat healthy, use whatever you can, but never let her go to bed with others aka mr. Mercedes or mr. Honda or mr. Renault

There won't be variety in opinions. Maranello is a wrong place to gather opinions. It is the heart of Ferrari and statistics would be meaningless. This forum is the best one to gather opinions. ;-)

Obviously training, exercising and eating healthy are not still allowable because of homologation :lou. The boy must wait.

To continue off topic (not that it matters this thread isn't too important given the poll question :roll) A masters student visited our lab from the Netherlands about a year and a half ago and we became good friends, I took him to Ewood and we ended up trading teams so I am an honorary PSV fan. I went to visit him last summer (in wageningen) and I have to say you have a beutiful and friendly country. If Breda and Rovers meet again I will be sure to go!

As Jas said it would be commercial suicide Ferrari to use non Ferrari power unit. Apparently there is nothing wrong with petrol engine itself. The problems are power unit being overweight, electric motors and how the whole power unit components communicate with each other.
Manufactures will be able to carry out developments between the final race of 2014 and the end of February 2015 when a new homologation period will begin and hopefully all the power unit problems will be gone at that point.

Not into football but I'll still want Italy to win the World Cup, same as I want Ferrari to wipe the floor with everyone else. And you can't have a Ferrari race car without a Ferrari engine, it's sacrilege. And I don't have any Italian blood, so it must be the wine.

I had a flutter on Italy and Uruguay because te odds were good (before they ended up in the same group). Realistically I think a south american country will win, either Argentina or Brasil.

You can talk about football in General Discussions forum.
To make it easier for you to understand let's put it this way: You can't talk about football in Forza Ferrari forum.
