Well, at least we got some points and Kimi made the fastest lap of the race...hey, gotta find something positive to cheer me up after what was yet another frustrating Monaco GP for us. It's time now to turn our attention towards the Canadian GP and hope that we can be much stronger there with the help of more powerful engine, which is hopefully still coming.

Very sad about Kimi getting that puncture. He deserved so much more. I really do hope the updates for Canada is amazing and Ferrari worthy.

It pains me seeing a Ferrari so uncompetitive

Hm...watched the race and eh.....Kimi, great start, the puncture a shame and then the mistake.....Felipe may have left the car, but bad luck surely did not.:-s
Fernando, solid but no action at all....he must be the only spectator of the race who actually drove among the racing cars....:-??

The result is the best Fernando could get, but for Ferrari again not nearly enough points in total.

No, i just think it is him not being able to think and stay in control of a race if his team does not keep looking after him like a baby.

I can understand not liking coming second, as Rosberg looked when he came second, but LH is just an unsporting tool.

A real shame about Kimi, i think he would have been able to finish third today and he would have deserved it.

I was a bit disappointed with this race. I had a feeling we might at least have one podium, but it didn’t happen and that’s still down to the car. Fernando did as much as was possible, after a slight electronics problem at the start and not helped by a sluggish start from the driver in front, Ricciardo, and Kimi just had very bad luck after a great start.
But at least Fer wasn’t lapped, grateful for small mercies.
So, we remain third as a team, but on the same lap, barring problems, as the Mercs. and RBR. I’m looking forward to seeing advances from the next race. It could have been worse; ask Vettel and Hamilton.:-D

Oh, and great for Marussia:clap

Ok. So firt, congratualitons to Marrusiia. Well, to one of their drivers. Great ****** job Jules! Can't wait to see you in THE red car in 2 years. The other one though... what is he along with Maldonado doing in F1 I will never understand. Sure, the money is nice, but at this cost? Oh hell no!

Kimi... oh well, got sc**wed by Chilton (didn't see a replay, but from what some of you have wrote here I suggest it was his fault) and then that novice like error. Oh dear. But his pace looked quite good, better then what Alonso showed today, even though his pace faded away faster then Alonso's, so he was probably pushing way harder. But he should have been 4th (No, I don't believe he would be able to resist DR in the closing stages of the race).

Alonso was invisible in this race. No fights, riding alone for 90% of the race... but I guess there was nothing more to do after he was "blocked" at the start.

Monaco is providing really exciting races... not. Maybe the artificial rain wonld not be a bad thing for this race.

Red Bull was fast today, but that was probably just because the layout of the circuit, which could not be much better for them. In Canada, they won't be anywhere near the Mercs. And us being over half a minute behind Rosberg, wit 3 safety cars... painfull.

And YAY! Vettel.

shamim179
25th May 2014, 17:28
The gap to Mercedes is about 0.6s per lap if we base it on the final safety car which came into operation on lap 28. This gap would have been slightly bigger if it was a track that depended on power rather than other characteristics. It seems we have closed the gap slightly but Red Bull are slowly but surely stretching away from us in terms of performance. Canada will be a key indicator as to whether we have any realistic chance of challenging the Red Bulls this season. McLaren are gradually knocking on our doorstep but I get the impression that their focus is on 2015 when they partner with Honda.

Good job Alonso.

Between Rosberg and Hamilton, I think it will come down to mental strength and consistency rather than speed as they're very evenly matched.

Couldn't bear to watch the Rosberg/Hamilton podium shenanigans, the pair of them make me squirm. Did I miss something or was Kimi not a bit ambitious with Magnusson at the hairpin? Ruined it for Kimi although the punctures were pure bad luck, he deserved a points finish after his efforts. Fernando did what he had to do and brought us some valuable points but looked to be lacking something, but overall the car was at least in the hunt for a podium. Good on Felipe for getting some points and Bianchi and Marussia too. Roll on Canada, maybe some more improvement but it'll be too little too late for this season. And I never thought I'd be wanting a Red Bull to overtake anyone but Ricciardo nearly got Lewis. Maybe we should start softening him up to join the Scuderia, although he doesn't seem to acknowledge his Italian heritage very much.:Hmm

Why was Fernando uninterested? He couldn't do anything about Ricciardo because RB's are faster and Fernando himself was a lot faster then Hulkenberg! He made the maximum out of the situation!

He must be utterly frustrated and tried that move as he had fresh tyres.

You really should watch the race before commenting like that.. Kimi drove well today. At first stint he was fastest, after Mercs of course. Back marker ruined his race and after that he toke big risk when he tried to overtake Mag, that backfired, but there was little to lose at that point. Before "daddys money" got involved he was racing for podium.

Seems I haven't missed much ...

One thing that I just don't understand: how we lost also our good treatment for the Pirellis ...
the longer Alonso drive on the harder tyre the more he lost against Ric ...

Ric pitted in lap 26 and drove his personal fastest in lap 70(!!!)
Alo pitted in lap 26 too and drove is personal fastest in lap 54
Kimi pitted in lap 26, 28 and 73... and drove his personal fastest in lap 75

as we seemed not really bad with softer tyre we really lost it with the harder one ...

(edit: okay braking problems might explain some of the gap to Ric)

too bad that one Marussia messed up a possible podium ...
in terms of racing a dry Monaco race is a killer for those who like racing as 98% of the race is done at the start ...

Congrats to Marussia and Jules ... well done ... important points ... and if it continuous for Caterham that way I don't think they will join F1 for very much longer

Words of encouragement also by Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso, who started his Formula 1 career also in a small team (Minardi) and has no doubts about Bianchi's qualities: "When I saw Jules in the points, I was very happy for him. he is not only a driver of the Ferrari Academy, he is also a friend. "

"We spend a lot of time together in Maranello, playing football, riding a bicycle. I am also happy about what this result means for his career," says Alonso. "I have no doubt that it will be a good career. Hopefully he gets with this result, a chance at a better car next year."

After rewatching the race last nite, I thought it good that Kimi was able to keep the mercs in site..for a while anyway.
Given that Alo had problems, I kept hoping he would move up. The car looked a bit more stable too.
I simply cannot grasp how merc is able to get that much speed with the fuel they r allowed to use. Theyve gotta be running higher
rpm's, yet when u do that, u use more fuel...As far as excitement, the Indy 500 was actually more exciting to watch. They raced each other
all the way to the flag.

Come on man, now you're just over-exaggerating. Kimi's speed and skill to drive great hasn't gone anywhere, he's just been a bit unlucky that's all. He did really well yesterday in the race and if it weren't for that unfortunate incident with Chilton then he would've gotten a well-deserved podium place. I can understand that you're disappointed that he ended up finishing 12th, so was I, but it really wasn't his fault, maybe he could've been a bit more careful when he tried to overtake Magnussen, but I liked that he at least tried to overtake him. Imo Kimi's been getting better and better race by race and he's much closer to Fernando now than he was in the beginning of the season, so let's see what happens in Canada. I wouldn't rush into sending him to retirement just yet lol. ;-)

Soooo some Ferrari related stories from Monaco (as I was there)

Not sure what the deal is on Kimi and the driver's parade as I saw him literally 10 minutes before the parade heading back to the Ferrari motorhome from the pits.

Anyway Friday evening myself and a couple of friends took a walk down the quieter end of the harbour (yes there is one) Near where the TV compounds are. We'd heard a casual remark about Fernando being on a boat that way and whilst we weren't going to look for him we had nothing else to do so thought we'd take a look.
There was an old tall ship moored down there so we walked a long to have a look at that. Literally there were about half a dozen people about. We stopped to sit down in front of 2 boats and as we looked the people on one boat were looking across to the second boat. Then Fernando left the second boat and went to the first one. My friend got an autograph and I took a few pics but it was so odd to see him with so few people about.

Anyway I'll let you know as soon as I get the photos on my website.

Also I could tell you about the beer and long chat me and Suzie had with Rob Smedley on Thursday night but has he doesn't work for Ferrari anymore it's not really relevant ;)
