How will this track suit us? If Canada was too hot, can we run the updates on this track at least?

Long straights, I guess the answer is no.

I think sector 1 is going to be tough for us, as it consist of slow corners leading into long straight (similar to Canada's sector 3). That means you need good traction coming out of corners to be able to accelerate as early as possible, and also good top speed down the straights. Both of which are our main weakness, as we saw in Canada.
Aero improvements may help us in top speed, if we can reduce drag, but traction remains an issue that is difficult to be solve as aero downforce doesn't play a big role in slow corners. We need to improve the power delivery to improve traction under acceleration.

Cold weather = Working updates = 0.3 or 0.4 of a second advantage = competing with RedBull for being best of the rest

It's not nice to admit it, but yes, seems like it's the only positive out of the whole situation! But let's keep the faith ...... miracles do happen!

The track is a mix of Bahrain and Barcelona, so it will be okayish for us. Positions 5-9 are for the grabs.

I hope I'm wrong, but this track worries me. Could be bahrainesque if we don't run our updates.

Not to ruin the mood, I'll refrase your question to will there be ANY track that will suit us at all?

I love this track, old version of it. Now it will probably be ruined with all those stupid safety zones (asphalt instead of gravel). sigh...
Fiorano :-D
we can't race there, it's against the rules :(

I'm interested to see how Spa turns out. It's generally a high downforce track so that should help minimize traction weakness. If our new aero updates can be used there, we may be able to improve our top speed as well which is also important in Spa.
Not up to the level of Merc of course, but maybe we can fight Red Bull...

Well front limited tracks ain't too bad , you know....

Colder conditions should suit us more, but the track layout is what's really worrying me, it's very similar to Canada and without a good top speed it's going to be difficult again. But hopefully we can use our updates this time and get a better result than in Canada.

I understand the premise of front limited but how does one know that a track is front limited? What tracks remaining on the calendar are front limited?

The tracks which have long sweeping corners are front-limited. From the tracks that are remaining this year Silverstone, Spa, Suzuka, Circuit of the Americas and Interlagos are front-limited.

We really should go for broke and run the updates--regardless of temperatures. Turn 2 is not going to be good for us.

We seem to be struggling at each race track we go to, this really hurts me to say this but I don't see us finishing on the podium at any race for the rest of the season...:-s

There were 24C in Canada and meteorologist say it will be 25C in Austria. So what colder conditions?

It's not just ambient temperature that matters, what matters is how hot the internal materials get, ambient temperature is one of the factors that influences this. Canada was very hard on temperature, not just because of ambient temperature, but also because of the continuously accelerating and braking, that was very hard on electronics. The faillure on the Mercs was also probably because of electronics that were to hot..

When selecting the tires on offer for this weekend, Pirelli did so based on their estimate that the race would present low abrasion and cool temperatures.

I thought the temperatures would be lower in this race, before I saw the weather forecast.
