View Full Version : Kimi: "I'm bored"......

From raceexpress.nl:
Kimi Raikkonen says he is bored because driving in F1 is limited and he is not allowed by Ferrari to compete in other series. After Robert Kubica's near fatal accident in a rallycar most F1 teams, including Ferrari, have limited their driver's activities outside F1.
Raikkonen dreams a lot about the freedom former F1 heroes had:"In the past, when men like John Surtees were driving, there was much more freedom. I would like to compete in multiple series too, because we don't do a lot of racing in F1 and almost no testing. Unfortunately driving in other classes is forbidden by Ferrari, but I hope that will change because I'm feeling bored now".
Well, on one hand I can understand Kimi, but on the other hand: how can he feel bored if there is still so much work for him to do in order to get closer to his teammate?
Or is this just a way to express that he thinks he isn't able to do that and now slowly is losing interest?

The boring part is like he said. " no testing and nothing to do in order to improve rather when you're on track during race weekends" and " driving is limited in F1 in general".
As the part you asked i simply do not think so. Kimi said that if he loses interest in F1 he will simply leave and im sure Fernando got nothing to do with it.

Both sides have valid reasons. For the driver, they want to do as much racing as they can because that's what drivers do. But for the team, their responsibility is on F1 and so they have to do everything they can to ensure nothing goes wrong including drivers being out of action due to accidents elsewhere.
You're not alone Kim I'm bored of F1 too :-ZZ

...how can he feel bored if there is still so much work for him to do in order to get closer to his teammate?...
What can he do if the track testing is so limited? Run and cycle more, do more PR, sit in a simulator etc. - car does not get one bit better even if he does all this and then some.

Go to the factory? Talk to engineers? Try to find a way to get the car more suited to his liking by explaining in detail what he wants? There is always something you can do to try and make things better if you are in his situation. Being bored is not one of them.

You race for Ferrari, travel around the world, make a metric **** ton of money and you're "bored?" This is a slap in the face to anyone who has ever dreamed of piloting a Formula 1 car. I wish I could be in his position so I could be as bored as him.

Raikkonen expects to retire at end of 2015
Kimi Raikkonen says he expects to retire from Formula One at the end of 2015 when his current Ferrari contract expires.
Raikkonen moved from Lotus to Ferrari over the winter after signing a two-year contract, but has struggled for results this season with just 19 points from eight races.
Asked if he saw himself at Ferrari for a long time, he said: "Until my contract is finished and then I will probably stop. That is what I think is going to happen."
Raikkonen has expressed interest in driving in other series outside Formula One, but said he was not yet sure where he would end up.
"I don't know yet. I've tried many things and there is no harm in it, it doesn't take anything away doing it at the same time as Formula One, I think it can only help and for sure it does not harm. You always learn when you drive different things but the problem is that the teams are scared if we get hurt so there is a big conflict on that.
"In the past when I was at Ferrari I was allowed to do some rallies, and I thought it was a big help and I was doing well at the same time in Formula One. But every team is different. It would be nice, not just for us, but for the fans and the spectators seeing us doing many things and mixing them up."
Asked if being given the freedom to race in other categories would be enough to convince him to stay in F1, he added: "I don't think [so], when I feel it's time to finish Formula One, it's time to finish that. Even doing something else at the same time makes no difference because obviously the decision is about F1 and if it is the right time to stop."
:wave bye Kimi.
Kimi really? bored of driving Ferrari in F1? insult. Now you getting paid, you dont care. Im bored of watching you struggle each race weekend. Thought be good having Kimi back, but no. 2008 all over again. You bored, retire end of this year and dont waste our money on driving in 2015 and go rally or something, then we can get Hulk in or Jules.

I don't know what we were thinking signing him. He is not the driver Ferrari needs. He has no focus and is past his prime anyway. Watching him get slaughtered by Alonso this year has been both comical and sad. The only good thing is the Kimibot level has really gone down since the preseason.
I get bored at work but I still put in 100% effort for my company. And I am an accountant! I don't get to travel the globe, get paid tens of millions and race in the fastest cars on the planet. It is a slap in the face to all of us who look forward to each race weekend, that spend our hard earned money and block off that time on Sundays just to watch some guy go through the motions because the car isn't good enough?!
Wish we could kick him out of the team now.

And shall we compare Kimi's words with what a real Ferrari driver said:
http://en.espnf1.com/ferrari/motorsport/story/165155.html?CMP=chrome
Fernando Alonso says he is so focused on doing what he can to put Ferrari into a winning position next year that he has given little thought to extending his contract beyond 2016.
Speculation linking Alonso away from Ferrari has never been far away in recent times, with the most recent rumours suggesting Ron Dennis is ready to offer the Spaniard a second chance at McLaren. Alonso can leave before his contract expires if he has an exit clause or another team buys him out of it but a new deal would end much of the speculation, though he insists his only focus at the moment is on the current campaign.
"I'm not thinking too much now longer term because there are bigger priorities at the moment," Alonso said. "I want to help the team to score as many points as possible this weekend and this year, because there is an interesting mix to the constructors' championship between finishing second and sixth or seventh - the margins are very small.
"We just need to concentrate and focus on scoring the points. The future after 2016 is something that at the moment is not the main priority, but we will try to see when it gets closer."
Alonso retains that focus because he feels the work he and Ferrari puts in for the rest of the current campaign will determine whether it can be a genuine contender again in 2015.
"There are three things we must do this year. One is to score points this year, if we don't score points this year and we finish sixth or seventh in the constructors' championship that will hurt the team for next year because there is an economic prize. That is the first thing.
"The second is to test, especially on Fridays, some parts for next year's car which are experimental and we need to learn about. Third is to work very closely with the team and Maranello. I'll go on Sunday evening to Maranello and spend all week in the simulator - there is no time now to relax, it is time to work.
"That is what the team needs and expects from my side and it's time to deliver. We need maximum effort, maximum concentration and maximum teamwork."

Surely he would have knew about Ferrari's policy of no racing elsewhere when he negotiated his contract?
I hope this doesn't mean he's going to start losing motivation and just wait out for his contract to end, there's more than a year to go.

If im not mistaken Raikkonen visited Maranello recently for the 2015 car development were he spoke with engineers and gave input about the 2015 car.

Im quite surprised how you can easily jump into false assuptions.
Kimi never said he was bored of Ferrari or F1, he is bored due to lack of action which we all agree that lacks in the current F1.
Im quite curious on how you came to your conclusion.

Besides doing simulation work ( as he gets dizzy) Raikkonen never said he doesnt like to do testing AFAIK.He is talking with his engineers and trying to make progress with the car, thats a known fact, the team can confirm it .he travels around for Ferrari and does sponsor works as expect even if he doesnt like it.

very simple, he knew very, very well what F1 is like nowadays. Teams do not want pay someone buckets of $$$ for them to have a little joy round in rally cars and get hurt. If Kimi felt that couple years back, when he came back, he shouldnt of in the first place. Or left the sport last year. Let someone get Ferrari seat who isnt bored. He has 1 weekend at FOS for PR work and this.
He knew very well what teams think about letting their drivers go and do other stuff. The lack of action? thats F1, at moment, get on with it. He never liked testing anyway.

Yet again, he never said anything about driving in a Ferrari or getting bored at it, he simply shows on how different it was back in 2007 with now. He understands that its his job and he does it he just points out how much less action is found to now compared to then, he never said he got boring either Ferrari or F1, he said when that time comes he will quit F1, simple as that.
Raikkonen never said he doesnt like testing , a guy that wants to drive more and more hates testing ?
He only hates simulation for the reason i mentioned before and im sure it was confirmed more than once that Raikkonen works with his engineers, they even praise him for that.
Yes thats F1 but that doesn't stop the fans complain about it does it , neither it stops our fans from complaining about our poor car performance but nobody is giving up on Ferrari.
Same goes for Raikkonen he may not like some or many things in F1 but that doesnt make him stop doing his job.

In other topics you people complain of what F1 has become. When Ferrari F1 driver Kimi Räikkönen says the same he gets this.
That's not Kimi's main problem though, as far as I understood what he said. He said in the past, Ferrari allowed him to do racing elsewhere and that was good for him. Now it's a "conflict" because he has the desire to do other stuff and Ferrari no longer allows that.
He's not feeling bored because of the engine sound or lack of overtaking, but because he's unable to get involve in other racing series. This, and the fact that he is thinking of quitting after his contract runs out, indicates that he may be done with F1 but for the existing contract he has with Ferrari.
This can't be good for the team, or himself. If he's no longer motivated to compete, then he will be wasting his own time as well as the team's for the entire 2015. We cannot afford to have a driver who only shows up because he has a contract to finish.

He never said he is bored of F1,again,he would like to do as it would be better for him and other drivers, its an opinion a wish you name it but it should never be labeled as something different, that just shows exaggeration and twisting his words and meaning.
Fernando said more than once that best driving he had and enjoys is during carting, now should we jump on his neck and tell him to leave the team since we assume he is bored with F1?
He is focused in F1,like i explained many times above which you tend to ignore, he does work with engineer and mechanics, he went to visit maranello for the 2015 car, gave input and spoke/worked with the egineers . Why a guy that doesnt care would even bother doing that ?

I think you mistake something, a classic Kimi is when he says few words and answers shortly where others give a lengthy answer .
I mean seriously, how many drivers expressed their displease with current F1 but they never got labeled or accused to leave the F1 or the team.
I havent ignored anything, i know what he does, what he did at the factory, he know exactly what he done and saw. But, he said he is bored, wants to do other things like before. But he cannt.
No other drivers have said they are bored.

If Fernando made these comments, it would be the talk of the media. Kimi says it and he's "just being honest." This guy is living the dreams of millions of people and he has the nerve to say he's bored. Sorry Kimi, but there are no boring subjects, just boring people. I hope we sign Jules at the end of this season. Even if the car bites in 2015, at least we would have two drivers who care.
We are not even sure if he said exactly those things or some journo translated those wrongly ?, you know the same way it happen with Fernando many times before.
All we got so far is what you saw from the espn and autosport saying that raikkonen is likely to end his career after 2015 season and him mentioning that doing other activities could be good for drivers and fans in general. None in those both articles was mentioned that he got "bored" because of that.

Well, what of Webber then? I seem to recall he wasn't happy with RBR in 2013.
And thankfully for the both of them, that was Webber's final year with Red Bull. Red Bull has found a young and promising talent, and Webber is happy racing in another series now.
This may be what Kimi wants, and there's nothing wrong with that, if he's bored and wants to do something else, then that's a fact we can't change. However, the problem is that he's contracted to the team for 2015 as well. Any Ferrari fans have every reason to be concern about that. If he is bored with F1, then he should talk to the team and try to reach an agreement to be release from his 2015 contract.
Anyway, this was Kimi's first year returning to Ferrari, and now he's saying he's bored and plans to retire. Of course Ferrari fans are going to be upset about that. We needed a long term solution.

These were about my thoughts when I read what Kimi said........

Who said he's bored of driving F14 T?
Webber produced classy results in 2013. So that tells me he lost interest in the way F1 was going on, but never lost interest in racing his RB9. As long as he fulfills his contractual requisites, Ferrari are in no hurry to replace Kimi. To me, he is our 2015 driver still.

If he's still 100% in it, but still decides to retire anyway, then I hope he can somehow stay that way until he retires. The article I read was in Dutch so it was a translation. But the Dutch word "verveelt" simply translates in "bored" , there is no other way to translate it.....it just means what it says.
Of course I can't guarantee that Kimi really used that word in the interview, but that goes for every article we read.......
Personally I think Kimi means just what he said, he usually does: He would like to do other things besides F1. That is not allowed and now he is getting bored.
I think that can't be good. Being bored doesn't exactly improve motivation - in general.
But this is Kimi, and he is not "general", is he?:-D

It is obvious that Alonso is a cut above pretty much everyone else, that's clear. But for someone to say they're bored because they can't do want they love to do is wrong? Obviously Kimi wants to race. Where is the negative in that. To me that shows that he loves to do what he's doing. The criticism of Massa wasn't wrong. If a driver is not performing after 4-5 years in the same team then something has to change. If Kimi can't get his act together next year, then they should replace him as well. It's his first year in a bad car with not much chance to improve it due to testing restrictions, so I'll give some slack for this year. Massa was given 4 years and more and was getting worse. There is a strong bias here against Kimi, and it seems Massa walks on hallowed ground, but look at it from Ferrari's view and you'll see that changes were needed... Massa had peaked at Ferrari and was sliding. Change was needed... and may still be needed but at least give the new guy a chance.

really. Wonder if the power unit has something to do about that?

Kimi is going into retirement anyway...www.thescuderia.net/forums/showthread.php/32281-Raikkonen-hints-at-retirement-after-Ferrari
I wished the team knew about this last season.
Why is 8 races ok for Kimi but 4 years is not enough for Massa? Massa drove well for a time, then he didn't.. but he was given every opportunity to improve and he didn't. Why aren't we extending the same to Kimi? Only because he doesn't show passion in the same way Massa did?
What was it that Massa failed to do but Kimi could excel in? Sure as hell not points and results because he's performing no better than Massa did.

You must be joking, there were plenty of days/weeks I didn't even want to come on here because of the way he was being spoken about. In fact the criticism of Kimi has been pretty much non-existent in comparison.
There are always going to be posters that hate certain drivers and defend their own regardless of facts or other's opinions. But to go off the rails on Kimi because he says he's bored because he can't race or test due to the rules? That's a little excessive. I like Massa, very nice person, did well for us when he had his good years, but things eventually have to change if the situation isn't right or getting better. But let's be fair... Kimi's performances so far have been disappointing and honestly pretty crap, but we at least have to see if he can pull it through and work it out to get the car working for him. To call for him to be replaced after 1 year, when we endured 4 years with Massa is not very realistic. Maybe even destabilizing, perhaps Kimi can offer some input that can get this car or next year's car running better.

Improve after 4 years? How about this. If Kimi is still crap after 4 years, then let's get rid of him.

I can only assume you meant in relative to Alonso's result, as the team hasn't been making a good car in past years that even Alonso himself couldn't win. Well it's been said many times that Alonso is regarded by many as the most complete driver on the grid as not only is he fast, he has this special talent of being able get more out of a bad car. If this is the case, then it's unreasonable to expect Massa or Kimi to perform anywhere near what Alonso is doing, because that is Alonso's unique talent that no one else have. Therefore it's not that Massa was bad and he wasn't able to deliver, but he is achieving what other drivers including Kimi can from the bad car. Any more than that and you will have to clone Alonso. We can't say Alonso is all that unique and then expect other drivers to be closer to him.
Therefore Massa wasn't a driver that needed replacing. And as we see now, not only was the move to replace him turns out to be unnecessary, it's now looking like a bad move because Kimi is declaring that he may retire next year. We have Massa who's doing better in another team, and our new guy is already planning on retiring. This is a kick in the guts for the team.

get rid of him end of this year.
(go get Hulkenberg, or a younger driver to get the foundations of the future set)

My apologies. I did not know he is running a different power unit than Alonso.

We all want that....:lol.....but as long as the car isn't as good as perfect, it would be nice if we had two drivers at least extracting the max out of it. At the moment Kimi has big problems doing that.

Brundle must be the best pundit out there. That was one of the most informative interviews I've ever seen from Kimi.

Massa's bad luck continues , 43 points behind his rookie teamate. Whereas Kimi is 68 points behind Alonso presently, I believe it's his car wrecking his year. On the other hand over at Red Bull , Ricciardo has a 28 point lead over Vettel. I believe Ricciardo is the better driver. I can't believe RB would give him any edge esp. the car. He's just driving his heart out.
