Marco Mattiacci insists Ferrari has made enough progress on the aerodynamic side in recent races to give the team a "good starting point" for the second half of the season.

Since replacing Stefano Domenicali as team principal in April Mattiacci's arrival has not sparked a drastic turnaround in fortunes at Maranello, with the team yet to replicate its podium finish from his first weekend in charge at the Chinese Grand Prix. After Silverstone Fernando Alonso complained aerodynamics was one area which prevented him from overcoming Sebastian Vettel in their battle for fifth, but Mattiacci thinks there has been progress made.

"I have to tell you, we have brought a lot of aerodynamic improvement in the last races which found a positive affect on the track so this is a good starting point compared to the past," Mattiacci said. "I think it takes time. There are problems that have been present on the car for quite a bit, so we are working to improve what is improvable at our best. Fernando is aware about this."

After the British Grand Prix Mattiacci promised he was looking to build a "different team for 2015" but he does not think there is necessarily a quick-fix for some of the lingering issues Ferrari has this season.

"On an operational level I don't think there is a move that can give an immediate improvement of the car. From the technical aspect we are really trying our utmost to give more performance to this car, all the engineers are aware of this."

Makes a pleasant change from going backwards as we have in recent years.

Perhaps but we have never been able to translate this into track time

Visually its still one of the ugliest Ferraris that have ever been made. But if MM is talking about speed, then MAYBE we have improved a little (not convinced tho).

Glad to hear that some progress is being made, unfortunately other teams are working hard as well and so it's difficult for us to catch up. But hopefully we can keep on improving and have a better second half to the season, starting with a good race in Germany.

Mmm, we are, at least Alonso, overtaken in straights AND curves the Force Indias, red bulls, toros and Maccas, we couldn't do that in Bahrain. I think we are progressing.

Alonso at Silverstone was awesome and there did appear to be some progress but until we can improve the PU and integrate it properly with the other power sources, we're struggling to keep pace with the other teams. And IMO that nose is hideous and only a tifoso could love it.:-P

I personally thought the nose was good looking when I first saw it & was happy we didn't go with the dangling proboscis solution.

The only thing that put me off was the cars poor performance, if they are making changes that are actually improving the car I am happy for that. I can live with slow gains as long as we are actually gaining, the performance at the end of this season will be a good barometer for 2015.
If Ferrari can see in hindsight that it is a much improved platform from the beginning of the year, this should give them good momentum & confidence to push on for 2015.

As foolish as it may sound, I still hold on to the hope we can get 1 win this season to keep the streak alive & their progress only strengthens my hope. Note - no one has ever accused me of being overly pessimistic. :lol (Also, it would be fantastic for this to occur at the next race, as my son will be there at Hockenheimring cheering on Kimi & Fernando, probably asking for a little too much!)
