View Full Version : Alonso says Ferrari F1 future not his priority at the moment

Fernando Alonso says his main priority is improving Ferrari's current Formula 1 form, rather than thinking about staying with the Scuderia when his current deal expires after 2016.

The Spaniard has performed strongly so far this season, but has been frustrated by Ferrari's lack of competitiveness.

His management courted Red Bull during last year's Hungarian Grand Prix after Ferrari hit a mid-season slump, and Alonso was later publicly admonished by Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo for criticising the team.

McLaren is known to be interested in luring Alonso away from Ferrari in the future, but the double world champion says his focus is on trying to help Ferrari do better in the short-term rather than worrying about his own future.

"I'm not thinking too much on longer term because there are bigger priorities at the moment," Alonso said, when asked during the recent British Grand Prix whether he would look to renew his Ferrari deal.

"I want to help the team and I want to score as many points as possible.

"We need maximum effort, and maximum concentration and team work to improve the car for next year.

"The future after 2016 is something that at the moment is not the main priority, but we will try to see what is the best solution."

Alonso also urged Ferrari to support new team principal Marco Mattiacci, who is undertaking a restructure of the F1 team.

"There is nothing we can do more than work hard and trust our changes and our people," Alonso added.

"There is always a programme to follow, a direction to follow - sometime it's right, sometimes it's wrong, but we need to stay together and trust the direction Mattiacci or the group of people think is the best."

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see Alonso mentioning Ferrari specifically anywhere. He's just saying that there are more important priorities at the moment and he's not thinking beyond '16

It is just the same old media's way of twisting the actual words spoken and creating interesting headlines such that a reader would compel to open and read the article, nothing else.

I would much rather have a driver focus his attention on the car he is drving now, rather than what he will be doing (or who he may sign with) in 2 years time.

Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a dream ...Today is the important thing to pay attention to.

still 2.5 more years of contract, why should he worry?. Even if he wants to leave Ferrari, is not like nobody will hire him, he has zero reasons to be worried about his future.

I still got the feeling Fernando will stay at us after 2016! He has said several times that Ferrari is his last team in f1 and I believe in that! Either he retires in 2016 or he will be with us after 2016 too!

Of course it's not his priority. He has already signed with McaLaren Honda.

Well I asked Ron Dennis myself at Goodwood if he was looking to get Alonso to drive for Mclaren in 2015, he did not say yes or no only we are always looking to get the best drivers at Mclaren but I could tell from his face something is going on but hopefully Alonso will make the right decision and stay with us.

He is contracted to Ferrari for 2015.
Alonso will keep his options open after years of Ferrari failure. He wont sign beyond the end of 2015 until he sees a clear up swing in the performance from the team.

All things being equal he will stay at Ferrari rather than go to McLaren with Dennis again. He will wait to see the performance level of the Mc Honda compared to the Fazz and then determine his future.

Even being a tifoso i would not want him to sign an extension to his current contract as i want him to mount the pressure on Ferrari management to invest in this team like RB and Merc have invested in their teams.

We probably can bet on the fact that you want to get rid of him. That's all. I doubt he has signed any contract at this point of the season, specially when Ferrari is moving to change things, he is going to wait a little longer.

1. Get rid of the best driver all over the word?? Don't think so😉.
2. Ferrari is moving to change things....I lost counting, for how many years a driver can wait for a competitive car?😁
Can't say more...
