View Full Version : Current F1 drivers are “wimps”, says former Schumacher manager

Michael Schumacher’s former manager has described modern F1 drivers as “wimps”.
Willi Weber helped Schumacher break into F1 and remained his manager until shortly before the German’s first retirement from the sport in 2006. He also looked after a number of other drivers, including Ralf Schumacher and more recently Nico Hulkenberg.
He has now launched an attack on the current crop of F1 racers, singling out their tendency to complain about rivals over the radio. This, says Weber, means they do not stack up against past greats.
"Who wants to see the wimps of today crying on the radio?" Weber said in an interview with Sport Bild.
"There are no more characters like Ayrton Senna, Jacques Villeneuve and Michael Schumacher were. They would not complain on the radio but give their answer on the track."
Weber also hit out at F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone, blaming him for the supposed drop off in F1’s popularity.
"There are many reasons for the decline of the Formula One," said Weber. "First, the fish rots at the head. Bernie Ecclestone is much too old to embrace the age of new media while FIA president Jean Todt lacks the power to enforce.
“These men think only of their own interests,” he added.
Weber’s last major F1 role was with Hulkenberg, who he managed until 2011.

I bet Ayrton Senna, Jacques Villeneuve and Michael Schumacher were complaining just as much or maybe even more. We just couldn't listen to their radio chatter before.

One of the reasons could be that stewards have become little too strict with penalties, they don't let them race. As a result, drivers complain more often, just like in soccer you act your pushing-tackling , falling on the ground, behaving as if you are injured only to initiate yellow cards or free kicks.

Modern F1 drivers are legend. despite having 45 button on steering wheel, they are talking to the team while fighting for positions.

Weber is just another blabla figure, just like Marko.........nobody asks for their opinion so they blabla it into the world, just to feel important.
Put their asses in a two-seater with Fernando behind the wheel and they will **** every inch of the track.....:furious

i love schumi, hes my #1 fav driver but im 100% sure in the 3 years he was at mercedes in a few races he had a moan, when things arent going right everyone moans, yet another pointless comment from someone who isnt in the sport anymore just like jacques villeneuve.

I'm sure Weee Willy Weber was either drunk or joking around. MS 's time spent on his radio was just listening and laughing to Todt and Brawn telling Rubens to"Let him Pass". No need for Ms to complain on the radio. Just remember the bad radio connection MS had in Austria '02. Willy should make a coneback doing F1 stand up comedy. If he can still stand up?

MS would not have heard the radio messages to Rubens though.

Nope, that picture is an apt depiction of you and your OCD to bring in Rubens in each and every post that you make! Seriously mate, move on!

Well for one, I'm glad you weren't serious when you said you were going to ignore any future posts by me. I'm happy to know your'e an avid reader of what I post. Thanks for the interest. I'm sure you agree that current F1 drivers are far from being "wimps", Defying team orders is more being strong than whimpy. Ok I don't want to let you my dear friend down, I wish Rubens did the same.

My friend did you mean to ask, what did the dog holding the bone sent to me by my friend vcs , have to do with this thread? I'm not sure, probably just a joke between friends. Prob. just like your spelling correction has nothing to do with this thread. Thanks anyway for the help.

If you still don't understand the reference of the dog holding the bone, I am not going to explain any further. Ref the Ganges comment, I am hoping you are not turning this into a racial attack.

How can you think that? Never happen. When New Jersey was going to have there track ready to go, me being fron New York City, I was asked if I was going to swim across the Hudson River to get there . If you don't know, that separates NY from New Jersey right where the track is going. My reply was yes, it beats the traffic. I never thought anything of it? Do you think I was being racially attacked? Chill out my friend. Your going over my head with your comments and dog pictures of me.:rotfl There are no whimps driving inF1 especailly not Lewis.

Glad I could help, my dear friend. I understood the cartoon image, thank you for your concern. That was not a spelling correction, btw--more a request for clarification regarding what you meant. :-)
